Saw him 3 years ago at Holmfirth. Met him in the Bridge Inn afterward. Sad loss. Glad he got those extra 8 years so this lifelong fan could meet him and shake his hand. RIP
I'm glad he understood the need to show us. Any wilko footage is absolute gold
A most wonderful, gentle and extremely talented man, very British... unique in every way ❤️🙏🏻❤️
GENTLE ?!?!
He chopped off Ned Starks head !!!
😂
became an English teacher before Dr. Feelgood
Wilko the legend, Got to see him with the doctor and as a solo artist thank god. Lovely guy too. Sadly missed.
I'm sure this will be watched a lot today! RIP Wilko. What a player and what a man.
I saw the Feelgoods in Bournemouth before they made it big. The atmosphere was electric. I saw Wilko many times and one of his last gigs in Poole this year. A true original. We will never see his like again.
Yup im here watching in memory, R.I.P Wilko
You're right
Yep….I’m here today. What a guitarist…..
i`m sure of that and he was it.
RIP Wilko. Absolute solid legend.
Always wondered how he did it, looks simple but only because it's in the hands of a master. The worst part of getting older is when your hero's and people you admire pass on and they are always unique and irreplaceable. Wilko was one of those. Luckily for us their legacy still lives on at least-R.I.P
That’s so true
Master?
You'd SHIT if you heard me play.
I tried to copy it, but it is actually very hard to do. We all know, don't we? RIP my dude.
Ashamed to admit I'd never heard of this guy before now - - what a great sound, great vibe. Going to be obsessed with this guy for a while I suspect. RIP
Early Dr Feelgood is a great starting point
@@xebio6 cool....thanks!
What a man! Let's celebrate his humour, his musicianship and the fact he will (hopefully) be with us many years to come.
Lucky enough to see Wilco slice up the stage with Ian Dury and the Blockheads, 1981, Auckland New Zealand. Unforgettable. Rest in Peace Wilco Johnson.
It was no wonder Wilko mentions legendary Mick Green from The Pirates as such an influence ,he was way ahead of many back in those days utilizing rhythm & lead together while rocking the house to the ground with his bandmates. Keep on rockin it ...
Enjoy my youtube content paul..
I saw The Pirates once and the guitar player (Mick Green) was unbelievably good doing lead and rhythm at the same time. Totally brilliant to watch.
A true legend. Rest easy Wilko, thanks for the magic.
When this guy starts playing "she does it right/roxette" I wanna grab a drum kit and go crazy....
His playing is raw, energetic and infectious, cant keep me feet still when WJ starts playing....
Saw him with his band in 79 at the music machine....
I was hugging the edge of the stage and he gave me that robot stare....
Still remember that image like it was yesterday....
God bless this guy, I love his music.
yeah wilko, its a very simple thing. the only problem is, nobody else can do it.
Genius reply mate.
Diitto!
Cod Zilla lol
@@Codzilla71 No, the two of them finally met and Wilko discovered that Green had a totally different technique.
Yeah right 😃
RIP Wilko, a true guitar hero.
I saw wilko at the Walkern sports and social club some 10 years ago. He phoned the club to say he would be a bit late on stage, as he was still waiting for his curry in town. What a lovely down to earth great guitar player. Was a great night. Your a superstar wilko
Was that a double header with Nine Below Zero!? - coz that sounds fucking familiar. I worked a few shows at that gaff. Nice little crowd you have there mate, lovely people, always ;looked after me.
Thanks Wilko - learnt more for you than I ever did in school! You'll be missed.
RIP Wilko, I've had 3 musical ephinanies in my life and one of them was seeing a repeat of the old Grey Whistle test performance of Roxette in the late 90's as a teen and just being floored by it, I couldn't take my eyes of Wilko and marvelled at his dynamism and movement, his playing and brilliantly cool intensity, In that moment I was hooked.
God bless him.....One of England`s ever-diminishing pool of old-fashioned good guys and a gentleman too.
Relatively unknown, grossly under appreciated. One of the greats for sure.
It's heartbreaking to think the likes of this guy and the amazing music he brought just aren't around anymore. God Bless Wilko.
What a lovably talented guy. Privileged to have seen Dr Feelgood in '76, and to feel the full machine-gun attack of Wilco. My 1st gig. The thrill of it has lasted ever since.
RIP Wilko - he did it right.
there's not many guitar players where you instantly recognise, brilliant raw playing
Amazing how I watched this video with a few thousand views about a month ago, and now he's passed it's got millions. Just shows people don't get the recognition they deserve until they pass
A great player with a massive influence. If you think that you've not been influenced by Wilko it's odds on that you've been influenced by someone who got some of their stuff from the sadly departed English master of the Telecaster. RIP WILKO.
I just love the way this man played guitar and I love his tone on those early Dr. Feelgood tunes. His style was so unique and just amazing. Thank you so much for the great music Wilko Johnson. RIP and God bless you.
Wilko - a really top bloke as well as an underrated guitarist...
IANA how is he underrated?
Yeah. I loved him from the moment I heard my first blockheads album
@Timothy Lee you could be right maybe it is a UK thing, particularly Essex? Wilco has a very unique style, in the same way as nile Rogers, perhaps not technically brilliant but you know it's him the second you hear him. In the mid 70s before punk rock took off there was what is now referred to as pub rock. There were several bands around Essex at that time, most notably the stranglers, the kursel flyers (who I think became the motors?) Ian dury and the blockheads and wilcos old band Dr feelgood. Some things don't travel across the pond I guess but these guys have influenced a lot of musicians who came after.
@Timothy Lee I forgot to mention that wilco was ser ilyan payne on game of thrones, the kings executioner, you may recall that he was mute? I'm guessing that was written into the script because, as has already been said, no one outside of London would've understood a word he said?
@Timothy Lee stupid person. waste of a comment
RIP Wliko, true legend. Thanks for the memories 🙏🏻
beautiful man. Fantastic to hear of his recovery
So glad I got to see him and Norman on tour in Manchester a few years back....RIP Wilko, knock'em down up there !
Absolutely wonderful Real honest guy ,and just ordinary RIP Wilko God bless you and your family
Amazing player and amazing you are still here Wilko following your terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis some years ago. Top bloke
Rest in peace Wilko! You are the best in my mind forever 🙏
He makes it look so easy, and yet there is no one but Wilko who sounds like that.
Had the privilege to hear and see Dr Feelgood live iback in -75, during my late school days. Didn't realize then what a brilliant guitarist he was, but I sure do now! Wilko, you"re The Man! God bless you! 🎸
What a great Guy, bless him RIP Wilko.🙏🙏😢😢
one of the great original sounding guitarists of the last 40 odd years imo.him and dr.feelgood heavily influenced my own guitar style, thanx wilko
Wilko Johnson is fucking UNKILLABLE. What a legend. The amphetamine kid still.
Everyone loves Wilko,a really nice guy, with a lot of talent !
One bloody chord and the entire Masterpiece presented. What a splendid genius you are Mr Johnson!!!!
RIP Wilko, what a legend and a lovely man
rip wilko a unique n wonderful guitarist thanks for the great music x
Fantastic guitar player and a lovely bloke. R.I.P Wilko.
Learned to play guitar 🎸 thanks to Wilko ,, sadly missed
One of rock's most unique and self depreciating talents.
Always loved the Telecaster sound. So many great players including Wilko have got a distinctive style from the guitar people like Steve Cropper and Syd Barrett. So simple but you try doing it!!
RIP WIlko. Rest easy old son.
A true legend.
Incredible magic! And from my local bookstore!
He hasn't "MULLERED" he's now upstairs with all of his mates fellow musicians and late fans who truly knew what we didn't about the man, your a long time "MULLERED" wilko do what you do best and enjoy it for eternity and longer... thanks for the music and so much more 👍 quite simply untouchable from a wild 70's decade right up until... sod it who cares you dares!!! exceedingly far to good to be forgotten.... massive inspiration for God only knows how many. that's the finest accolade I can give you bro!!! rock n roll just got longer and forever louder and free to them upstairs... you lucky sods!. .. "RAW AND TO MAKE YOU ROAR"... PURE GENIUS.
RIP Wilco. Simplemente Genial.
RIP the greatest guitarist/entertainer i have seen
I just watched it all through, couldn’t help myself…what a great guy, remember him in the 70s…fabulous,unique sound. Good one Wilko
Great to see this. What a shop David's is! How did I miss this 10 yrs ago?!
Love him absolutely love him he's pure rock and roll. And great live!
If you can make a telecaster sound good with no effects at all, you are doing something right. It’s all in the hands :)
A Telecaster always sounds good, you don’t even have to know how to play, it will still sound good!
Nadie como èl. Descansa en paz, Wilco Johnson.
Both humble and great at the same time.... brilliant...RIP Wilko !!
descansa en paz Dear Wilco. Tengo 60 años y empecé a tocar de quinceañero gracias a él. Le vi tocar muchas veces en España. Thanks
Sal,
I've watched your videos at this event SO many times & smiles, laughed & marvelled every single time.
Today I watch is tinged with sadness but so happy to have seen him live earlier this year.
Thank you SO much for recording & then sharing this grounded & intimate event with us all.
Cheers 🙂
Fuck me for being a professional musician and only learning about this guy from watching Game of Thrones. He's great. I love guitar players with their own style.
+Derrick Mims He's Ser Illyn Payne - he's the executioner in season 1 and 2
Wilko Johnson - Guitar Legend!
Saw him live back in the day. Brilliant. R I P. Wilco.
RIP, Wilko's music lives on long after all of us.
i think wilco is one of those people who's time simply is not up yet no matter what is on the cards. such great news to hear he is free from cancer after we all thought we would
lose him, well not yet. xx
Very effective and distinct sound our dear departed friend...it'll always be synonymous with you....Bless ya mate!
one of my personal definitions of a genius is someone who can invent something totally their own - a sound, an image, a story, whatever - and make it look completely easy and natural. wilko does exactly that right here. wow. one of the all-time great rock and roll guitarists, a brilliant player and songwriter. the real deal. RIP sir, and thank you for the music.
Priceless. What a guy - blew me away all those years ago when I first saw him playing.
Wilko's a genius,comedian and a legend..Should be on TV more!!
Wilko, character and talent, simply one of a kind.
A legendary guitarist. I remember him from the Dr Feelgood days
R.I.P. Wilco, thanks for all the music..
WHAT a character!!! Man he could play though, thank God we have these guys on film from the 60's to enjoy now, great stuff!!
I am 78 and have played regular gigs since I was 11, both solo and band - all hobby stuff. Until he died, I had never heard of him but having seen this I like his style. I have a bit of that in my rep.
Sad news!! The great man has passed away!!!!
Bless you wilko R.I.P man.🎸🙏🤗
Whenever I see him play, I can never reconcile what I hear with what I see him doing with his right hand. I'm not sure I'm wiser now. I'll just have to go and try it.
Wow im so glad i got to see him live with the blockheads, saw dr feelgood minus wilco.
RIP Wilco my fav guitarist.
He's the greatest,so modest!!!
Love this video, it appeared in a suggestion, then i saw who uploaded it! :)
He makes it look so easy, when in fact it's mastery and great skills.
RIP the be brilliant Wilko...Saw the Feelgoods back in the early 70s, one of the best live band's I've ever seen and I've seen a few, definitely up there with the SAHB and the Faces. Love and peace Wiko x
RIP Wilko. Yeah, Feelgoods best live band I ever saw to this day! Alex Harvey sadly missed too. 70's rock memories still strong.
I know this shop very well. It remains a big favourite to this day and I was there last year. I lived in Letchworth for several years but never once saw anything quite as good as Wilko tho. L is famous for the worlds first traffic island and Quaker founders that banned pubs. Says it all really
Letchworth also won the war. They built Turing Bombes at the British Tabulating Machine Co. which help decrypt enigma.
Rip Wilco you’re music and playing will en-spire all of us a gem of a man sleep tight mate
Bloody brilliant. Wilko makes it look so easy.
Such a great guy and musician in one of the greatest ever bands
Saw him and his band late 80s at the Manchester international , epic night
One of life's great privileges seeing Wilko with Ian and the Blockheads. What a band folks.
Simple but difficult to copy, unique! He is a legend.
RIP Wilco and your Mentor the Marvellous Mick Green
an undeniable Master of the Telecaster
another British Gem, good technique, clean and distinguishable, RIP mate
Just got the sad news off the raido that Wilko had died, sad sad day, my heart goes out to his family and close friends, the music world just got smaller.. 🎶🎶🎧🎼🎸
The God of struming, rythm, and technic, amazing guitar player,i had the oportunity to see Dr Feelgood live 3 times and the guys were excepcional.
Wilko was a great character 🙏
❤ RIP Wilko. Thank you for the music and inspiration. See you on the jetty
Wilko had me at 00:02:06 with that riff from Roxette.
The 9-2-5 Outlaw Reviews - Check a song named "Can You Hear Me" by Lee Dorsey...
Surprise!
@@pit2ryan3 Yea....see what you mean..
One of the most immediately recognisable in all popular music. Wilko's odd-ball stage presence, movements and stance set him apart and were beyond unique.
Then and now, that's great Wilko entertainment with or without his hair. Loss due to medical treatment I guess.
Some mention Wilko's regional accent. Typical South East Essex estuarine. Even stronger with lead singer Lee B. I still have relatives in the area although now most passed away.
My first visit to "Sarf End" was as a five year old in the hot summer of 1947. A rare treat for a working class Essex family in those impoverished UK post WWII years. Spent most of the day on the mudflats with the tide far out. The trains on the railway clattering away all day on the Planet's longest pier. Not a cloud in the sky. My bare young back exposed to the strong sunshine all day. I paid for it soon after. My skin died from overexposure to sunlight and I was peeling sheets of dead skin off my back for days.
Great days and music. Always remembered and good to see and hear again thanks to RUclips. Makes you "feelgood" all day ... and night..👍
Crazy! I have watched every live Dr. Feelgood show I could locate trying figure out how the hell he was playing their songs. Very cool!
AWESOME !! AMAZING ! Thnx for the REAL LEGENDARY MUSIC !!
