My wife and I are in Jackson right now visiting because of this video. So far we're having a fantastic time! Cathead Distillery also makes their own bourbon and it's bomb.
Sir My wife will be taking a teaching job in Jackso which means we will relocate there from the Philippines. My question to you is "What is your impression of Jackson's safety etc?" Any thought and observations is appreciated. Thank you
However, Belhaven and downtown are where all the good food spots are at. These areas were safe enough during the daytime, but I would not go walking around at night. And do not go hiking around any water- they have gators.
There are also eastern suburbs like Flowood that are supposedly safe. You definitely need to visit Jackson before moving there. After desegregation, all the racist white people moved out of town, and left behind a ton of responsibilities and the city has been caving in on itself in certain parts. It's very sad, but the people we spoke with were very friendly toward us and the community as a whole seems quite close.
I live about 35 minutes north of Jackson and I gotta tell u as a born and raised Mississippian I have tried tons of out of state food but nothing compares to Mississippi. Flavor, soul and calories u want leave without 🤣
I’m kinda loving these food videos! And just the overall vibe, it’s like you guys are just floating on through eating your favourite things and not going all out travelling right now. I love it, and I can’t wait for what you guys get up to next!
If you go to Birmingham, AL, you must try the Fish Market in downtown Birmingham across from the Kirkland Clinic. The food is so good! The owner is Greek so the food is a mixture of southern and Greek. Additionally, you must go to Bessemer to the Bright Star that has been in the same location for over 100-years. Both places have their seafood flown daily from the Alabama coast.
You should come to Vicksburg... just 40 miles from Jackson! Visit Walnut Hills, 10 South, Martins at Midtown, Cottonwood and Rusty’s just to name a few... plenty of history and southern welcome!!!
I live right outside of Jackson. This was such a well done video ya'll, really enjoyed watching it and I'm looking forward to trying the fried broccoli especially, the next time I'm in town. Thanks and I've subbed!
Glad you guys came and visited and put out foodie scene on the map. We always appreciate the exposure. Please come back and review some more of our local restaurants
Lol the Seinfeld clip 😅👌 The longest we ever stayed in Jackson was a couple years ago during an ice storm. We were driving to NOLA and got stuck in Jackson, because the interstate was a standstill and the side roads were closed by police. It added 3hrs to our already 11hr drive... But we made it!
Mama Hamil's is just north of Jackson in Ridgeland, MS, ( seriously, the restaurant is only about 5 miles outside of the Jackson city limits) they have the absolute BEST southern home-style food in the state, definitely worth the few extra miles.
Thanks for doing these videos! I've lived in or near Jackson for most of my life and it's nice to see others appreciate what it has to offer. Hope you guys got a chance to go to the wax museum on the second floor of Iron Horse!
I would have gone crazy having to pick one of thos popsicles, cause they ALL looked YUMMY! Definitely want to try that Beer mixed with the sweet popsicle. Great video you two.
Aw, what a way to end the day with the popsicle. The root beer float one is to die for as well. You guys reminded me I haven’t been down to get mine this summer yet. Thanks for sharing the great fun of Jackson. It truly is here!
Haha yeah 3 hours is nothing. Me and my parent, we drove to Massachusetts and Montreal Canada one time in the summer and it took us 2 days and one night to get there. Longest road trip ever.
Yet another great selection of food you have shared. Thank you. And Eric, I’m a little older than you (ahem) and can tell you if you don’t know already, 86 was a fantastic year for music! While in the US, can you show us your fave US candies and chips that you both enjoy. Thanks.
I’m from Jackson. I haven’t been to Urban Foxes yet, but now I’ll have to make time to go! Tony’s tamales actually use ground turkey, and you can buy them here frozen at Kroger and Walmart for less than $5/ half dozen.
EVERYTHING you ate looks absolutely delcious! Have only been to the US a couple of times - had some really good food in New England, a lovely 4-cheese pizza in NYC, enjoyed excellent Cuban and Mexican food in Miami....hmmmm - more to enjoy thanks to you two! Keep up the good work! Cheers, Keith (Brit in Berlin)
Jackson looks like it has really stepped up the food game! As long as you're kicking around the Deep South, you should check out Savannah, GA. Beautiful architecture, great food, and friendly folks.
You two are so excited about the all food in Jackson. (And it all looked amazing.) So after we found out that Canada is where you go to chill now we know Jackson is where you go to eat. That pizza was the star btw. ;)
You guys are so cheerful! They're a breath of fresh air compared to so much negativity online nowadays. Your videos are very positive, a lot of fun to watch and really give the viewers many good suggestions when travelling. Great job!!
I live in Madison (20 min north of Jackson) and have worked in Jackson for 10+ years. It's too bad you guys missed the Parlor Market. It's right down the street from Iron Horse and freaking amazing. If you are ever back in the area, you should absolutely check out Madison. Some really great restaurants.
Michael Trent not to mention Aplos just over their shoulder near Deep South pops and Alex Eaton’s other restaurant The Manship! Glad to see some people exploring Jackson like true Jacksonians.
🍃💖HI! ALISON MISSED OUT ON DESCRIBING SOME OF HER FOOD ITEMS(?) JUST CURIOUS! POPCYCLE, LUNCH ITEM, & THE OTHER PIES! WAS THAT CHEESECAKE? THE 30th IS NATIONAL CHEESECAKE DAY! YA ALL!💞🍃
I somehow missed this episode when you first released it. I wish I had known you were coming to Jackson. I would have love to meet you both and tour you around. If you ever come back through hit me up.
I just wanted to say I love your show,, I am so busy working and haven't been able to go on vacation for a while but watching you two travel makes me feel like I am there. Thanks!
You saved the BEST for last, LOVE this beer popsicle idea! :) We're not too far from Jackson and now have a list of great foods to try. Thanks for this share. Best, James and Kim
That ‘comeback sauce’ is very similar to the Mary Rose we’ve used in the UK for decades - great on prawns or salad. I always add a touch of raw horseradish for the bite 👌🏼
Thanks for not drinking and driving! Looking forward to more. I honestly have never considered visiting Jackson, granted I’m way on the west coast, but I always imagine seeing other cities, so my interest is piqued!!! 👏
We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout, We've been talkin' 'bout Jackson, ever since the fire went out I'm goin' to Jackson, I'm gonna mess around, Yeah, I'm goin' to Jackson, Look out Jackson town
Tamales supposedly came to Mississippi with the seasonal Mexican workers who started coming up to the state around 1900 on their travels for work. They're especially prevalent in the delta region where most of them worked--between Jackson and Memphis and on west to the Miss. River.
i've been away 7 years and all i can say is things have changed a lot. check out Hal&Mal's the next time you visit. this iconic restaurant also has a haunted history. try it during a st. patrick's parade.
Yum, wanna try that beer popsicle ! You guys are sooo cute together. You are so easy to watch bc you guys are so down to earth. Our favorite travel vloggers😘
If there's one thing I miss, it's Southern food! Yeah...we were both drooling throughout this video. I'd most like to have the trash grits (minus the spice ;) ) I mean...Sean would love the spicey, but not me! Love your food videos.
If it weren’t for the political landscape of Mississippi I’d move to Jackson in a heartbeat. Everywhere you went to eat and stroll seemed really unique and delicious.
guys I found your channel by chance, I really enjoy watching your videos, you have very easygoing personalities , keep up with the good quality on your videos , cheers from Canada :)
The next stop on our southern road trip: Jackson, MS! Have you ever been through this area? What are your favorite food spots? Recreate our EXACT itinerary: bit.ly/weekendinjxn
Right across the riafrom the cultivation is an amazing burger place called “Fine and Dandy”. They also make adult milkshakes with all sorts of bourbons and spirits.
Other places in Jax. Table 100. The Manship. Anjou (French). The Mayflower. Yacht Club of Jackson. There are bunches more. Come for the food. Stay for the music. You won’t believe the talent here. Nashville session guys. Grand Ole Opry band members. Members of classic rock bands. Did I mention the Blues? OMG!
I have snacks ready, I'm looking forward to seeing all of the food. I was 22 in 1986 and had just started my first job, although people say I look younger than I am, like Eric :-)
Do not watch this episode on an empty stomach. In fact, be quite full. My wife and I both had to stop it at one point and go get a snack before we could continue. It all looked so yummy. ...oh and of course, you two are adorable.
The restaurants listed so far are good in their own way, but a really unique experience is Gibbes County Store in Learned. Print out a map in case the cell coverage isn't good when you get there. And Hal and Mals is a great bar/music venue/lunch restaurant in downtown Jackson.
In the Movie Help...Gritts are a vehicle to transport any thing on them...Shrimp...eggs... fruit...etc..I love butter salt pepper and an egg ..yummy...
Just a few places. Lunch you have to go to Mama Hamils and Keifers, for dinner all you can eat Catfish at Jerry’s Catfish House ( igloo on 49 Hwy) and for A great steak MM Shapleys or Koestler Prime ( same menu, long story)

@@anthonylane6121Stay away from south Jackson and the west side. Madison and Ridgeland are the more wealthy and safe parts of town.
However, Belhaven and downtown are where all the good food spots are at. These areas were safe enough during the daytime, but I would not go walking around at night. And do not go hiking around any water- they have gators.
@@markjohnson7002 Thanks Mark. We have already talked about being inside as the sun goes down. Thanks for your response

Great great stop today travelers. Finally somewhere totally off the tourist map. and Its a rather unique place 👌
More good coverage of Jackson. The fried broccoli and beer popsicles are definitely something I would like to experience. Good job guys 👏🏾
I’m kinda loving these food videos! And just the overall vibe, it’s like you guys are just floating on through eating your favourite things and not going all out travelling right now. I love it, and I can’t wait for what you guys get up to next!
Wow cool! I live only few hours away from Jackson
Nice to see the south. Thanks for exploring America.

I think Alison's face when she tried the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie is my favourite reaction ever.
You should come to Vicksburg... just 40 miles from Jackson! Visit Walnut Hills, 10 South, Martins at Midtown, Cottonwood and Rusty’s just to name a few... plenty of history and southern welcome!!!
I was 11 in 1986--it was a good year.
Never thought to visit Jackson. Now it's a bucket list item.
I live right outside of Jackson. This was such a well done video ya'll, really enjoyed watching it and I'm looking forward to trying the fried broccoli especially, the next time I'm in town. Thanks and I've subbed!

You know your american when they say 'short 3 hour drive' jesus I can drive to london in 3 hours and it seems absolutely impossible 😂
Haha yeah 3 hours is nothing. Me and my parent, we drove to Massachusetts and Montreal Canada one time in the summer and it took us 2 days and one night to get there. Longest road trip ever.
My kids can't do more than a 30 minute drive. Lol. Maybe it will get better when their teens. 😊🙏

I'm goin' to Jackson, I'm gonna mess around,
Yeah, I'm goin' to Jackson,

Totally had no idea that Mississippi was famous for Tamales. Sounds cool. Did you ever figure out what was in that sour cream sauce?
So is even a tamale?
Or even grits 😊
Tamales supposedly came to Mississippi with the seasonal Mexican workers who started coming up to the state around 1900 on their travels for work. They're especially prevalent in the delta region where most of them worked--between Jackson and Memphis and on west to the Miss. River.
Ok, Eric's "hee, hee", when he broke the egg yolk on the trash grits, was so me!!
20 minutes? ok hold on. let me get some snacks first. (not complaining at all!)
😊
Saltines and Roosters are favorites in the fondren area. But Jackson is filled with great food places!!!
thanks for coming to Jack-Town. you guys hit some great spots!!!
i've been away 7 years and all i can say is things have changed a lot. check out Hal&Mal's the next time you visit. this iconic restaurant also has a haunted history. try it during a st. patrick's parade.
I was born in 85 and thought you were much younger. Also I need that dinner in my life.
Looks 28.
I literally lol'd at the sudden George Costanza. 😂 Looking forward to more Southern adventures!
The pizza looked quite excellent, and in Jackson Mississippi. The grits with the pulled pork and poached egg looked wonderful as well.
TONY’S Tamales!!!! The best
Omg that popsicle with the porter sounds amazing 🍦🍺
Omg they came to Jacktown #601!!!
Pecans are grown in the South and are probably the nuts on your pie -unless they were peanuts! LOL

Thanks dude...u just made me feel really old. I graduated HS in 1986....lol
Headed to Zurich and might try some of your suggestions next week.
As a native Jacksonian, you all MUST come back. Y'all haven't even scratched the iceberg YET!! Hope it felt like home!
If there's one thing I miss, it's Southern food! Yeah...we were both drooling throughout this video. I'd most like to have the trash grits (minus the spice ;) ) I mean...Sean would love the spicey, but not me! Love your food videos.
It posted before I knew it! 😂 what I was going to say you guys have got a good life ahead of you! Enjoy the ride!
No worries! Thanks a lot Bob 😊
If it weren’t for the political landscape of Mississippi I’d move to Jackson in a heartbeat. Everywhere you went to eat and stroll seemed really unique and delicious.
Politics shouldn't play a part in where you live. Not to mention. In my 22 years living here politics have never been shoved in my face
Not a fan of Mississippi as a state but there’s no denying there’s nothing like southern food!
I’m from Ridgeland ms like right above Jackson can’t believe I missed y’all. Love the channel
guys I found your channel by chance, I really enjoy watching your videos, you have very easygoing personalities , keep up with the good quality on your videos , cheers from Canada :)
So looking forward to watch this 🌸🌸🌸🌸
The first time I tried fried green tomatoes was in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay in St Michael's. Delicious!
Love You Guys!! LOL Keep them Coming
