The ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 gaming laptop has probably one of the best displays on a gaming-specific laptop, one of the best keyboard and layout. It also features the new Intel 11th-Gen H processor! There was a GPU in there, but we couldn't exactly use it due to it being an engineering sample...

That blinking light would drive me insane.
Exactly! Status led lights reflecting off of the screen is a really poor design choice
I hope it's just from the top angle and isn't so obvious for thw user.
Yeah like who thought that that was a good idea wtf?
@@SamoScopom it is very much visible from users point of view. I saw another review but i don't remember who was it. I think you should put something like a piece of tape on it to fix this.

Just don't ask them how thick the thermal pad is. That's confidential!
For anyone who is wondering where this is referring to, have a look at this video of Louis Rossmann: ruclips.net/video/e48eYElm1R8/видео.html
damn so an acutely useable baseline webcam that also looks slimmer than most of the competition
while also having a unexpected good microphone... it kinda impressed me that they put something decent in there.
@@Pr04basher the asus g14 mic is so damn good that i dony use my headset mic on discord anymore
It only looks usable with filming light though with normal lights it will probably not be as good
@@munjee2 Doesn't matter. Dumb Asus finally learnt to include a webcam is what matters.
@@adwaitgoku27 wait they didn't?
Whenever I don't hear a price I just assume it's going to be astronomical.
Came from Louis Rossman's clip of how Asus didn't want to reveal the dimensions of a thermal pad to a user who wanted to replace it.
I saw that too, now I'm glaring at my old Aesus
Brrrruuuuhhh
@asdrubale bisanzio you know, as much as we like to think companies are so organized that's entirely possible. Still dick move tho
@asdrubale bisanzio neither one of those are good PR moves. The better would be, "email us with your information and we'll try to figure out what the thickness is." It wouldn't have gotten nearly the amount of bad press if they said that they didn't know. That's not even remotely possible. Of course they know. The person that they were talking to may not have known, but the company knows. It would be very easy for the tech support person to find out that detail. It would also be very easy for the customer to measure it. Thermal pads are very compliant, and thickness is of little consequence. Things that require thermal pads (caps, resistors, VRMs, SSDs, small/low power chips, and inductors) are not very demanding anyways.
I'll never get an ASUS again. Too much QC stuff that I am fed up with. My current Zephyrus battery has swollen on me for the second time, warping the chassis.
and without knowing the price i'm sure that they nailed us
If this thing's anywhere near under $2,000 I'll be astonished. This thing has to be probably $2500-$3,000.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu Legion 5 pro 3070 with 5800h is 1700€ so i have a feeling the asus m16 with the 3060 will start around 2000€ and the 3070 probably 3000€. asus is 1000 thousand times better looking but with that price good luck.

I had issues installing the graphics driver on my Asus G14. I realized the Armoury application had disabled the dedicated GPU in favor of the iGPU to save power while it wasn't plugged in.
That's like putting a 20 cal mag in a bmg

The mic on the laptop is really good, I hope the next Zephyrus G15 gets these updates like the display, keyboard, WEBCAM. One of the reasons keeping me from getting the Zephyrus G15 was the lack of a webcam. I like to game in my free time but during work hours I have a lot of video calls becauseI have to coordinate with different departments and I can't be bothered to take a webcam with me if I want to work from an Airbnb or hotel.
I love the move towards 16:10 screens on laptops, the addition of webcam and matte coating is also great. Wish it came in a 14" form factor though
damn the mic on that laptop is so good. I couldn`t hear much difference from the normal mic
8:14 that smooth legion 7 teaser
Smooth sponsor transition at 1:59! Really nailed it, lmao.
i got this laptop today. im super psyched to try it out!
Just bought the 2023 version.
It's fantastic. The windows hello webcam is great, and I'd forgotten how much better matte screens are in day to day use.
College students be like: Yea imma just whip out my M16
Just hope you don't feel like changing the thermal pads.
How many people, realistically, would want to do that though? Far from everyone watching LMG videos build their own desktop PCs, even fewer poke around inside their laptops even for simple stuff like adding/changing RAM, fewer still would ever consider doing anything involving messing around with the cooling.
@@treborrrrr that’s not the point
@@treborrrrr how many of them might need/want to have their computer serviced sometime during it's life though?
Lmao true. If the reference model that Intel sent is thermal throttling like crazy then I don't have high hopes for any of these. Plus the AMD versions are cheaper.
@@treborrrrr chill your elitism out please 🙄
From everything this laptop has to offer (16" 16:10 slim bezels, better than avg speakers, top specs), the mic is amazing. Usually you just assume the most worst sounding thing but its great (that is in a 'quiet' room). Great for conferencing.
I absolutely love the first 8 seconds. Bravo ;]
Just don't ask them how thick the thermal pad is. That's classified above top secret.
How dare you even mention it..
Is it that bad?
@@dauielim2399 There was an instance of someone dealing with their customer service and had asked the question of how thick the thermal pad was for the particular product. Just a video of him playing crab rave and opening it up.
I feel your pain at not getting to play a game on it… that’s evil of them.
If iGPU is ON in the Armour Crate app, it will automatically change the video output from the gpu to the integrated gpu. My G15 had a similar issue when the gpu won't show up unless it is charging.
Mine was set to the igpu even when charging.
props for the time stamps
Thanks for Timestamps/Chapters thing!
ASUS nailed it !
Intel? not so much
Ok entitled amd fanboy
tbh, you can never go wrong with either Intel or AMD. It's up to personal preference whether you want to go with any of the 2 companies
@@tranthien3932 I would've gone with AMD laptops if thunderbolt isn't locked to Intel (desktop??? AMD all the way bcuz of thunderbolt AIC capable)
@@tranthien3932 Yes you can go wrong, buying intel is throwing money
@@shanedoesyoutube8001 That is true. Lack of Thunderbolt 3/USB-4 hurts.
You can choose between the GPU and the iGPU directly from the Armory Crate key on the keyboard. No need to reboot. That's why this laptop is amazing (as well as the G14 and G15) Best of both world. Wanna game, engage the GPU. Wanna work with absolutely 0 fan noise and for over 10 hours of light usage, select the iGPU. I'm surprised and confused that they did'nt know that.
The specs is awesome, those keyboard looks comfortable too. Case also super compact with those huge display and back design, dope. I will definitely buy Lenovo Legion 5.
Im getting the m16 for christmas and im super excited
An Ethernet port in 2021? On a laptop! Oh how I've missed basic ports.
It never went anywhere on AMD's laptops since it usually comes as a chipset feature.
my current laptop still has a cd drive....
Totally unnecessary, especially with WiFi6. If you really need a ethernet port, a USB to ethernet adapter is pretty inexpensive.
@@mowcowbell no, just no. WiFi6 is not a standard anywhere, no one is using it yet. Also why would anyone wanted to use a dongle when there is a room for the ethernet port on the laptop itself? Sorry but I enjoy my high speed low latency cable connection.
I prefer the Sound on the Asus. Over RUclips the Dell sounded really tinny to my ear.
ya the asus seems to output frequenceies that YT doesnt compress to garbage

I'll wait for them to make a Ryzen 6000 version with thunderbolt. The compelling part about the g14/g15 line was how powerful and portable they are. 10 hours on a gaming laptop is amazing for people like me who use it to code, compile and test games.
Hey, spotted a mistake! at 0:27 it says the battery is 240wh, when it should indicate that the charger is 240w (the battery is only 90wh).
Thank you! I was searching for someone to mention this. Knowing how easy a normal person is confusing the two makes me a bit mad that they did this mistake and practically contribute to the confusion.

Nice to see new laptops and see new tech advancing. Video quality seams bit too blurry compared to LTT video.
2560x1600. Finally! Need more of this
I think lower resolution is better for a gaming laptop, otherwise you deal with lower FPS or blurry / half-res image in demanding games. Having the option is nice tho.

I thought it was my computer's notification lol
I’m happy that the finger print reader now works on new asus laptops because the 2020 g14 fingerprint reader only works an 1/8 or less of the time
3:37 really interested in a full review of that new intel design laptop
All I learnt from this vid is that the Keyboard and trackpad is good. While the surface is a fingerprint magnet. Speaker is decent. So Asus nailing it would be an overstatement for the time being. Let’s just see future reviews on how this thing really performs against other options
You forget the camera and the display
Yep, if you want a gaming laptop with decent Kyeboard, Touchpad, Speakers and Battery Life, ASUS is pretty much your only option. Build Quality is top-notch as well.
But ... how about some pricing, at least an approximation ?!
@@victormarian7889 Got the 2022 model with a 12900H, 3080 Ti, 32 Gb ram and 2tb ssd for 1900€.
Third ASUS product in a week? That sponsor money must be sweet!
im jealous of these guys they get all the cool toys while im stuck with a pc from like 10 years ago
I like that Alex is competent at his job
Your dGPU isn't working probably because you need to enable it manually on battery power through Armory Crate's GPU prefs, or plug it in and it should switch over to the 3070. When it's disabled, the hardware device appears to be unmounted at the time as well, so everything from Nvidia Control Panel to driver installs won't detect that it's present until it's enabled.
Hey I picked up a Zephyrus last week, check the armoury crate settings it is probably switching to the igpu when not under load, should be in the bottom right corner in armoury crate.
I love it when the cameraman cracks and laughs in the background
I took like a 3-4 year break from watching LTT videos so that’s why I forget this hosts name. But I remember when he first started he was so shy and different but I love to see how far he’s come
I wonder if ASUS will publish the dimensions of this laptop?
Just not the thermal pad
Im pretty sure its the 3rd dimension
@@mahirooyama9424 yes, mm/in x mm/in x mm/in. For 3 dimensions
That's classified information
At 6:42 you can see that the WIFI card and RAM are really close to those heat pipes. This may mean your WIFI will cutout during gaming and your RAM will fry itself to death faster. I've had a similar issue on an Aorus laptop, since then I am weary of that. Luckily the SSD is far away, those fail faster when close to heat pipes, especially a GPU and CPU that run hot.
That screen Bezel is so awesome it deserves to be capitalized.
That long stand at the bottom is for it not to suck hot exhaust air back into the fans.
As they say,The 69's are always nice
Btw loved the review Alex😃
Do those status lights reflect on the screen in a annoying way while using it? They were quite noticeable from the top view (maybe it is just in that angle)
No cause the screen isn't reflective to lights
You'll only see them on your desk
@@nomzelot still, seems super bright and annoying. Why even white? A dim red and green would be _much_ better. White is terrible for indicators that arent't even useful for the daily use of the device. What are they even for? All it needs, if anything, is a "power on" and "charging" (which could be the same LED with 2 colors).
@@nomzelot In the video it is reflecting enough lights that several people here pointed it out. Anyhow, I'd like to know if viewing it form a normal use angle would make it annoying it too, specially since they removed the screen bottom chin.
Removing this chin brought 2 additional problems:
- Viewing the screen from the side, now the bottom, next to the hinge is thicker than the top (guess the electronics went there)
- The heat exhausts now blow hot air directly to the screen (blowing it to the chin was already a concern for many)
I'm not an anti-asus guy, quite the opposite, I'm writing this from my ROG Zephyrus G14 a laptop I love. It's screen is not glossy, but it still picks some reflections. And I would love it came with a webcam as this new notebook will do.
I think that how the status lights were implemented in the M15 is way better, even better than in the G14 (where I cannot see them the lid is closed) or the G15 that has this same format (but at least has a plastic chin in front)
the mic of the laptop is surprisingly good
I have the G14 and I freaking love it.
But how thick is the thermalpad?!
so... That's the same company who said that they cannot release thermal pad thickness, because its confidential and replacing the pads will void warranty? Um, no, thank you.
been looking for a laptop for a long time think this one might be the right one
The box looks like the one my zephyrus g14 came in, so that's probably all the accessories you get and is probably not just a pre production unit
I like that it starts with: nice
I asked Asus how many keys this had and they said it's confidential.
What the hell that build in mic sounds REALLY good
Nice to see a webcam. The G15 without a webcam might be a no go for many people, especially during the pandemic.
I wonder if the thickness of the thermal pads is proprietary information.
Nothings proprietary if you own a set of calipers ;)

This review is anything but real opinion. Without any benchmarks, without justification or anything like that. “The casing is a fingerprint magnet, which is pretty good” (that’s not the real phrase, but you know where I am going) The same is true for the title. “Asus nailed it” Why? How? Please explain yourself!
1:22 You mean another USB, not HDMI: :D
1:24 And you mean microSD, not miniSD!
Also, "would have preferred a full size [SD Card]"... why?!?
That exhaust going straight on to the screen is a real concern.
There's an option in Asus armoury crate to disable the dedicated GPU completely called iGPU Mode. Once that's on, it seems that you can't see the dedicated GPU anywhere in the system.
I think it doesn‘t even make sense to ship a gaming laptop with only 500gb, that‘s basically 2 games these days. When it releases, we are probably gonna have the option for more tho.
well, for me, i should be able to download around 10 of the games on my steam library, not too too many games use 100gb of storage, it's more like around 50gb nowadays i guess
Watching Alex gives you happy feelings. No matter what the subject, when it's Alex representing the product, I'll watch it fully. LMG should utilize Alex more in the videos =)
I'm curious about the fan hitting the screen... Will it damage the screen in long terms of usage because of the heat from the fan hitting the screen?
It has pretty good camera. Dang!
Now, how much does this cost?

Those blinking lights reflected off the bottom of the screen was a major bruh moment
