In those days everyone was "trying to find themselves" so they just keep going from one thing to another and never seem to get there. Some people want Jesus but their lives are not where they feel worthy to receive Him, so they keep trying to get to that place where they feel worthy, but Jesus said "come as you are" not "come as you should be." These are the things I think of when I hear the words to this song, with phrases like: "You don't have to run, you don't have to leave to find you..."
Mylon Lefevre and Broken Heart's "Free Man" had a similar concept: "If you're still running and you know you're hiding, You don't have to play the game."
Wherever we are can be holy ground because God will meet us right where we are. We don't have to go anywhere to get to Him. He will be right where we are when we are ready.
This is what I hear in this song.

Tommy Sims!! And I had such a crush on Rick/Riq/rikk/i know there are more but I'm almost 47 now :0) Anyway, yes, big crush. They sound amazing here. I have no clue how these things happen, but last night I was watching something that made me sad ( will avoid what it was, no use spreading that!) and two lines from this song just showed up on my head. Woke up, grabbed my tablet, hello Spotify, then Lyrics search, now here.
And holy cow, that last bit would have made my teenaged self think, " What in the world?? Just listen to a tape!" Hehe :0) I am so glad to have had these guys and Petra and a few others as the soundtrack of teenage and a bit into my twenties life. I honestly learned more Scripture from CCM than church back then. (And as my very fave, Rich Mullins said, "How many of John Wesley's sermons do you remember? Ok, now how many of his SONGS?". [ John Wesley of course wrote most of the stuff you sing in any Methdist, Baptist, probably more, church on any given Sunday) ... Rich was right. And I am so grateful for this music.

It's funny, my kids were born in early to mid 2000's and they love the 80's. 😂 They think I was lucky to have been born in the early 80's but I was too young to get into the big hair and cheesy fashions. I like the 80's too, but I now laugh at what they used to consider "edgy"... compared to today, it's downright innocent!
