Many channels concentrate on the "tech", you are one of the very few who gives credence to the actual "production" thinking and prep. Valuable info into the workflow. Thanks for taking the time.
Thanks so much, Means a lot! I try and make the videos id want to watch and give examples on how its helped me on the field. Glad its translating well!
Great Video! Tha KS for the shout out for playoutbee :)
Pleasure! Thanks for making it!
So we have an atem television studio pro 4k. I bought a hyperdeck thinking that i'd be able to seamlessly upload animated logos and video clips via an ssd, connect that SSD to the hyperdeck, and then that would recognize those logos and we could play the content live. So, from my research and briefly speaking to black magic, it's not that easy. It seems like we would just use the hyperdeck to record the stream and use the raspberry pie to do all the other things we want, which is instant replay, playing highlights, and run animated logos.
if you are looking for a quick drop any file and play, something like this is great. hypdecks are great for records obviously, but i use them for playbacks that i need to make sure work also. i render them all out first in the format it likes. but touch wood it works every time. if i want to drop in a file quickly and not have to worry about formats etc i use playoutbee or something like ProPresenter
@@RyanSomerfield thanks! I still haven't figured out how to get my pre-rendered content to be recognized by the hyperdeck. I tried the davinci resolve quick export, using the h264 hyperdeck option selected as blackmagic support suggested, and that did not work. What pi do you recommend? Should I get the 5 or 4? Would we need another monitor for the pi itself, or we'd be able to use the same laptop? One monitor is set for our camera multi view, but I think I should be able to use the laptop for the instant replay and uploaded media?
Hi Ryan, my biggest challenge is to be aware when the playback ends and to properly transition to the next scene. Especially in bigger live events their might be a speaker on stage who has to ready in the right second. What is your workflow for showing all involved persons to be ready again? Thanks for your great contributions by sharing your workflows and gig setup. Best regards Stephan
Just clarifying, you’re talking about countdown timers for the videos and people knowing when the video is ending? I am actually in the middle of getting a countdown timer software developed to help just this! Should be available to purchase once it’s ready as well! Will make a video once it’s ready :)
Nice workflows, might give playoutbee another try. Where does your stinger transition play from in this setup?
I have a video on how I did that on my channel :)
Great info, thanks. Have you ever tried running obs on the R-Pi rather than playoutbee and do you think this would offer any advantages. I add media to my Atem from obs on my MacBook, but a Pi running obs would be much cheaper and small form factor.
Thanks
Pete
Very nice content. Do you have any experience with the BM Hyperdeck shuttle HD? I want to invest in hardware with the sole pupose of playing back video's in my livestream via my Atem extreme. Is the shuttle any good?
I havent tried that specific one, i use the studio versions mostly. its great if you have the time to encode videos and get them all the same quality, if you find yourself doing last min videos its probably not for you, but if you have prep time its great. for me personally i just trigger videos in companion rather than the jog wheel and such, but hyperdecks are solid as playback/recording devices :)
What connection are you using for the Playbee?
Just HDMI out, now in my current rig its going in to a HDMI to SDI but keeping it all digital
Can I run Playout Bee on a Mac w/o monitor? TIA
To be honest I’ve only used the raspberry pi version. In theory if you had it boot up into the app you could, cause you remotely control through the browser?
Thanks so much for this enlightening post!
@Ryan Somerfield, can you help me with your ATEM macro transition and stream deck config XML files?
I got mine from these guys for the supersource transitions ruclips.net/video/-pRQKAqDPMg/видео.html
@@RyanSomerfield thanks for the up to speed response.
I will do and revert. I'm sure the stream deck config file is embedded
How do you shut down your Playoutbee Pi machine when you don’t need it on? Or do I just leave it powered on all the time?
To be honest I just pull the power.. probably not idea but hasn’t been an iseue
@@RyanSomerfield I wish I could like ssh into it and make a shutdown script or something.... anyway, thx
@@ckjjclan in theory that’s doable, ssh is easy into it. I guess you could wire up a power button too?
@@RyanSomerfield I wonder if the username and password are the same as a reg install... hmmm... project for tomorrow.
@@ckjjclan if you use the pre built pi installer it’s username pi and password bytehive
