As a long time Komodo owner who almost sold mine recently because I was having SO MANY wifi issues with the Red Control app just not working reliably at all for proper monitoring, I recently picked up a lollipop antenna and replaced the one that was on my Komodo, and it is literally like the camera has come back to life for me. Perfect almost zero lag wifi monitoring and control via the Red Control app, paired with the excellent Canon RF 14-35 f4 lens, and we are back in action! Face tracking still sucks, and no future firmware updates or support is a huge bummer, but I love the image coming out of this camera more than any other. And I now have a reliable, lightweight run-and-gun setup with solid wifi camera control and monitoring and good enough autofocus with the 14-35, so I'm not getting rid of this baby anytime soon. That really sucks regarding the Sigma lens and you are probably right about future Sigma lenses, but thankfully the Canon RF lenses are reliable and picking them up used is the way to go I think (on top of all the great EF and PL manual focus cine lens options out there). I debated picking up the Komodo X, but by the time the price comes down on the used market to something reasonable, RED will probably release a Z-mount Komodo by then. So I'm gonna wait and see what happens with the Nikon merger before I make any big decisions on buying or selling.
never used wifi on mine, will check it out :) Again 14-35... PRIME"S people Leica Summillux-C is the perfect pairing with KOmodo (Fincher knows best ) but yeah its fucking expensive so DZO or Great Joy (quality/price find used on FB marketplace... and autofocus what.... no no no Not opinionated at all. .. good thing i comment once a year :) Have a good day Phil
People need to understand how to film first and stick with one camera instead of chasing the next thing like a guy chasing a newer woman. Must people who have the red komdo treat it like a dslr and not understand it. I blame a lot of youtubers, just my opinion. I have the red komodo and pushed that sensor to its limit and getting amazing results in lowlight. Understand before you jump to the next.
Useless comment - this guys questions and concerns are valid, and really nothing to do with your fixation about people being obsessed with changing cameras rather than working on their craft - maybe you’re right, but what’s it got to do with Nikon not supporting a camera still being sold as New
I’ve had the Komodo for 4 years and I still love the camera. But at this point in time I want to use RF lenses on an RF mount camera and I can’t. That quite frankly pisses me of a lot of others off. On top of that people like you need to remember not everyone has the same use case. Although when I first bought this camera I did mostly narrative and documentary. I’ve changed paces in my career and was hoping the camera could come along for the ride. But alas it seems it won’t be able to.
I have to believe that Nikon understands that money is in volume. I think we are likely to see continue support for the Komodo probably at a reduced price and eventually a successor as an entry-level cinema camera.
In fairness, if Komodo was a camera with a strong autofocusing system this would matter a LOT more than it does. Since it isn't though, the only other thing that would matter is having distortion correction profiles for these lenses because...I hate to say it, but it's true...ALL of these newer, smaller, lighter lenses these days are a nightmare with distortion if not mounted on cameras which are leveraging those correction profiles.
Yeah it’s not about the auto focus, it’s that it can’t focus whatsoever or have its fstop changed. I’ve filmed with the 18-50 in raw on the fx30. Although it isn’t amazing it can be worked with
@@ReachFilms Yeah, that stinks. I always used OG and KX as manual cameras anyway, but I get it. That’s interesting that the focus by wire isn’t working though. I could see how iris maybe wouldn’t work, but I’d think focus would at least work manually if the lens is getting power. 🤔
I personally know a bunch of people who don’t shoot narrative and only use Canon RF glass on their Komodo. Tons of different use cases aside from what you would traditionally think the camera would be used for. (Although that’s the case for most cameras now)
It future is dependent on us.. we are the sheep that jump to the next system at every turn.. someone decided iPhones are viable cameras for certain situations which lowered the bar for what a camera is. Komodo is powerful and you can tell a story with it. If we decide it’s still good then it is.. we choose to whine it doesn’t have auto focus, how many movies are made with out auto focus? If your complaints are for auto focus you’re a content creator and not a film maker. Thanks to the masses following trends and the gear that’s pushed out year after year no wonder cameras shelf life is so meak.. if this is the model for buying a new camera( within two years it’s obsolete) then the model should change to a only rentals , we’re currently fools To think buying a specific camera will generate work
Man…… this makes me shake my head. No my comments are not about auto focus. My comments are on these lenses NOT WORKING AT ALL. The new lenses will not focus nor let you change the fstop. I didn’t buy the Komodo for auto focus and never expect that to get better. But I do want RF lenses to work on an RF mount camera
@@craynotcreigh if you can’t on your own see the value of a sub-$10k, 6K, 16bit RAW global shutter camera, I doubt anything anyone could say in addition would change your mind.
Just wanna say, your audio while riding a bike in public, at a beach….. sounds crystal clear!!
Thanks!!! Voice isolation is davinci is unreal with good audio
lol Like its really good

What’s the name/model of the lollipop antenna ?

I personally don’t think we will see another Komodo. Maybe a Nikon with R3D that is close to the functionality of what a Komodo 2 would have been

In fact, the sigma 18-50 can't even focus manually on the komodo X right now.

Komodo's future seems bleak.
Why would you use RF lenses on anything other than canon bodies ??

I say, No, for reasons.

Red is dead anyway altogether
Maybe
what do you mean the lens do not work ? you mean autofocus ?
No, nothing electronic works, no focusing or control of the fstop

Komodo was dead on arrival. Change my mind.
