  • In this Tutorial, I’ll show you how to download and install the latest bleeding edge version of ESPixelStick firmware on QuinLED hardware. I will be using a new product from QuinLED, the QuinLED-ESP32-AE+. This is a special version of the QuinLED-ESP32 module which adds a lot of extra functionality.
    It provides the following features:
    -Touch sensor
    - Infrared receiver
    - Digital Microphone
    - External Antenna
    - 3x LED Channels
    And the feature I’m most excited about is the:
    - Micro-SD card slot - What does this mean? This means the ability to upload and store xLights sequences to be run locally or with FPP Remote Multisync.
    NOTE: The first few minutes of this video explains how download and install ESPixelStick firmware. The firmware can be installed on ESPixelStick hardware also.

    NOTES for using ESPSFlashTool
    1. Make sure you have python installed if you are using Linux or MacOS.
    Run the following commands for command line or terminal prompt:
    'python2 -V' (will return version if python2 is installed - most will not have version 2 installed)
    May return something like this 'Python 2.7.16' if installed, returns nothing if not installed
    'python3 -V' (will return version if python3 is installed)
    May return something like this 'Python 3.10.1' if installed, returns nothing if not installed
    If python3 is installed but not python2, then a
    'which python3'
    May return something like this '/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.10/bin/python3'
    If so you need to setup a symlink to python3 as the alias won't work from within java
    'sudo ln -s /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.10/bin/python3 /usr/local/bin/python'
    This makes /usr/local/bin/python reference /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.10/bin/python3
    2. Make sure you are in the directory where distro was unzipped. The ESPSFlashTool.jar must be present.
    3. Make sure to plug in the cable and module before starting the ESPSFlashTool.
    4. The command to run the ESPSFlashTool from command line or terminal prompt is 'java -jar ESPSFlashtool.jar"

    Thank you for this video, whenever I try to Upload. I get this error. "Failed to program the ESP. Verify your device is properly connected and in programming mode." Have you seen this before? I've looked all over and cant find a fix. I'm not able to get ESPixel stick onto my dig quad ESP...

      Yes. Several things when trying to upload the ESPixelStick firmware to the DIG-QUAD (QuinLED-ESP32 or AE+). First, make sure you have the ESP32 plugged into the USB port BEFORE starting the firmware flash tool. Second, once you start the firmware flash tool make sure you see the serial port drivers detected in the "Serial Port" drop down list. If not, the drivers aren't installed or not detected.

    Can anyone point me in the direction of a more basic step by step guide to downloading espixelstick like this on either windows or Mac? I tried following this video and I can’t get the command prompts to launch the flash tool on the Mac. I’m sure it’s mostly user error. I’ve also tried doing it on a windows laptop with all the instructions I’ve found, and I can’t figure out how to fix the Java error (a Java exception has occurred) I keep getting. Much appreciated!

      Did you extract the file properly. If you run it from within the zip it will show this Java error in windows.

      @thechristmaslightguy  8 месяцев назад

      Yes. Download and unzip (extract) all contents. Then run the Java flash tool.

      Yeah that’s where I screwed up! Didn’t extract to a separate folder and was trying to run from the downloads folder.

    Can I just flash using etcher on a pc?

    • @thechristmaslightguy
      @thechristmaslightguy  3 месяца назад

      Good question! The firmware is installed (written) to the device not the SD card. The SD card is only used for file storage (sequences). I believe etcher is used to write images to an SD card. There is a new web based installer available that was just released last week. See this link ruclips.net/video/olu29-oUXTo/видео.html or check out my video called "How to Update ESPixelStick Firmware Using the New Web-Based Installer"

    Is it possible to play multiple fseq files in espixelstick as a loop?

    • @thechristmaslightguy
      @thechristmaslightguy  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes. From Martin Mueller “You create a playlist on any text editor, following the instructions in the readme. Then you upload the playlist to the SD card (through the UI or by putting the SD card in your pc). Lastly you set the FPP remote play to the name of the playlist. The ESP will now play the files in your playlist.”

    Hi Tony, i just flashed the latest Esppixelstick firmware on a AE+. I noticed a lot of data flicker issues on output channels 1 and 2. I changed the firmware to the latest WLED to verify nothing was wrong with my hardware. Have you noticed any data flicker issues using esppixelstick (via Xlights bridge mode and via esppixelstick webpage)?

    • @thechristmaslightguy
      @thechristmaslightguy  Год назад

      I have noticed some flicker but it was when I was driving with xLights. I don't remember seeing any driving with an FPP. Are you driving with xLights?

      @jasonflickinger7134 Год назад +1

      @@thechristmaslightguy I see the same issues in Xlights Bridge mode, Fpp playback, and from the espPixelStick webpage. Primarily channel output 1 and 2. I tried to pull the same firmware as you from github but it's expired. I pulled the latest build from 5 days ago ≈ Dec 1.
