I will maintain my 2004 toyota 4runner with 80 k miles on it, all well maintained.we done with new cars.new cars are designed to be replaced after 5 years or so.its definitely by designed to keep the average person with crippling amounts of debt.no thanks
I was thinking about this eariler today, I could afford a $30k car, but would the car be worth $30k? Maybe the Corollas that are still NA might hold up for hundreds of thousands of miles, but I'm not sure of much else. Honda went turbo and I don't trust those things to. Not to mention all the electronic crap.

My brother and I came up with the decision that electronic driver assist is too expensive to include on cars. Airbags, crumple zones, seatbelts, and non electronic equipment is cheaper and less likely too break👍🤔😏

New cars have become overcomplicated with technology. The older cars are so much easier and cheaper to repair or do maintenance on.
I do not need or want a TV as my dash. I can not see out the windows in the dark, like trying to back up. Screen is so bright it's blinding you almost into an accident

Cameras inside watching your eyes. Always-on microphones. Unique Bluetooth identifier. Always-on Wi-Fi, GPS built in. All this tech crap will be used against the driver in the future. Mileage & distance will be limited, as will days of the week. The kill switch will arrive in the form of preventing DUI. Everybody will be on board with that. Once the kill switch is in widespread use it will morph into its intended purpose.
This! If you don't have a problem with this as a consumer, then you don't truly understand how out of control the spying has gotten. Predictive analysis (future crime, controlled consent, etc.) is no longer sci-fi. It gets cheaper and more affordable with every passing year.
The new tech REALLY sucks, it's why I'm not buying a new Subaru.

Not true, and it depends on where you live. I just bought a '22 SUV and '23 turbo sedan and paid them off in less than 6 mos. Both full coverage at less than $150/mo.

"all wheel drive" No manual 4 wheel drive. No body on frame construction.

Funny you put this video up. I purchased a 2002, Jeep TJ barn find a few months ago. Was not on the road since 2013. I dropped about $1500 in bushings, tires, and had to do some electrical work...mice....... I have been driving it around for a few weeks or so now, and I said to myself "man this thing is refreshing to drive".
They have overplayed there hand with all the tech now in cars.
i have several cars in barns now. i keep taking them off insurance because insurance keeps going up on them.. the 6 month policy is already more than what i can sell the car for... its all by design. they are doing this to FORCE you to buy new. my 70k suburban: 146 full coverage 1k deduct.. a month. 2000$ pontiac, liability only: 198. yeah. guess how much this car was 2 years ago. 40$ a month........ over 4x increase in 2 years! its all by design!

I’ve been a tech for 26 years now. The older I get, the more I want the good old stuff that actually used to work. Across the board, new cars are junk. Too much tech and planned obsolescence, too many turbo charged lawnmower engines, and too much plastic garbage. I wouldn’t touch a vehicle made after the mid 2000’s.
I honestly think cars peaked in the early to mid 2000s, 2004-2006 suburban, Yukon, escalade, Tahoe, last like nothing else

Ford Crown Vics are really going up in price. They are a solid simple car that will just run and run for many years with no fancy electronics to break down.

I am rich enough to buy any car I want for cash. I currently own two cars. Both are from the year 2005. You said it man.
All three of the vehicles you mentioned were pieces of crap. GM wasn't making reliable cars at the time. Even if your transmission didn't break, there were guaranteed electronic issues such as your air conditioner blowing out hot air in the middle of the summer, or gauges that stopped working. Interior fit and finish were a nightmare (think broken latches, for example). I come from a family strongly committed to GM, and I can tell you from first hand experience that their trucks were crud until after about 2010.

I love the simplicity of my 1997 OBS Ford F-250 4x4. Low on frills but always dependable.
Any vehicle fitted with a sim card which can automatically connect to some unknown computer network and collect your data and from onboard video cameras is an absolute deal breaker.
I have looked at pick up trucks and cars. I have walked away. The salesmen call me for Weeks. The prices are way too high. I will walk before I pay these crazy dealer prices.
The car lots are full around here. It does not look like anything is selling.
The restaurants around here are closing. People don’t have the money to go out and eat. I have been to Bob Evans twice and it was closed. They didn’t have the staff to run them. Same issue at Wendy’s.

I miss: Wind up windows, the manual transmission with no fancy electronic shifters and dual clutch gizmos to burn or wear out, no power steering or power brakes, a real rearview mirror, a radio with tubes that could be replaced, sealed beam headlights instead of plastic ones that yellow and fog, ash trays to store coins and tokens, a comfortable overtly soft floaty ride, thick sidewall tires, instead of hard rubber strips around giant wheels, 5 mph rubber bumpers, engines with real dipsticks instead of guessing electronics, cloth seats instead of sticky fake or real leather ones, front and rear bench seats that can seat six, a real trunk that a couple of bodies could be stashed in, a real full-sized spare tire... big enough for a hernia, and no sun roof to shatter or leak, engine compartments with no brittle plastic connectors but real rubber and metal connectors, a few dozen wires instead of a few thousand ones, a carburator or simple port injection instead of direct injectors requiring 600 dollar treatments every 40,000 miles, modular electronic ignition that will work on multiple models of the same make .
Cars today are an electronic, technological tour de force... until they require expensive repairs or even routine service, then they are totaled by the service departments costs. How many cars, be it Toyota or Honda, GM or Chrysler, Tesla or Rivian... bought today, will be on the road ten years from now, fifteen years, twenty? 50,000 dollar self-destructing pieces of obsoleteness... all of them!
My wife and I have a 2004 Toyota Camry and a 2004 Toyota Corolla - two of the most reliable cars ever built. We've looked at new cars and the prices (for what we get in return) are abysmal. Long story short, we worked the numbers and determined that it would be cheaper to replace the entire engine and transmission, suspension, brakes and stereo in our Camry than to get a new car and deal with: 1) depreciation, 2) higher interest rates, 3) higher insurance costs, 4) too many electronic nannies, 5) having ANOTHER car payment
This is not a new concept. Car enthusiast have been doing it for decades to enjoy the cars they enjoy driving for a long time.
I currently have a 2005 Subaru WRX in excellent condition with 138k. If the engine ever blew I would rather put in a new short block because it would still be cheaper than the average new car that would just be a performance downgrade compared to my WRX.
That will work if the cars body doesn't rust out...that's usually what happens with reliable cars
@@frankward8003 Good point. If you treat rust before it advances the car can last a long time. I have been treating the sub frame and suspension parts of any rust I can see on my WRX. If I had a garage I would drop both front and rear sub frames and treat it completely and repaint them.

Own a 2003 Tacoma and although it’s not fast it runs forever and been keeping up with the maintenance.Super cheap parts, still looks good and runs great today. Great advice until new cars drop in price and meet your lifestyle.
People are tight all around now. Banks will have to open up and start lending to keep things flowing. Employers are gonna need to increase wages substantially for people to afford 50-80 k trucks and cars or homes. Otherwise the Japanese will need to start producing 15k new small pickups. Reminds me very much of the 70’s.

I have a '94 Caprice Wagon for my daily. The LT1 has some grunt for a boat. You have plenty of room for a sheet of plywood and will haul the family. Super fun to drive.

I luv my 2013 Corvette with no desire to ever sell. My 22 CX9 has analog gauges, actual knobs for HVAC, no complex 10spd trans & best of all no awful annoying stop/start!
over 351,000 miles on my 2003 Volvo S60- zero body rot, engine doesn't laek oil, tranny shifts smooth, the AC still blows cold air and best of all- haven't had a car payment since 2008. Only $ I've spent on my car is for wear items; timing belt, tires, oil changes, front struts, ball joints, etc. I JUST rebooted and repacked my CV axles including a new tripod joint ($58). Don't know how long the 2003 will last but I just picked up a 2006 S60 AWD- that has 178,000 - very good condition as well. The 2003 is my daily workhorse- when it dies; I'll jump in the 2006. Drive safe everybody.

I had a new car until 2 years ago. I bought an ‘03 ford ranger super cab with the 6 cylinder engine and 4x4. No payment, super reliable, easy maintenance and I absolutely love it. I don’t think I’ll be buying a car/jumping into a car payment if ever again. I said recently I don’t want anything newer than 2015. Funny I thought it was just me 😂
I predicted this "cubafication" of the car market some years ago. New cars are just too expensive and too complex. Repair costs can be hideous and getting many newer cars repaired by a competent mechanic/technician with the equipment and access to data can be a nightmare. Most people just want to get from a to b. People are realizing that maintaining an image thru car payments is EXPENSIVE.
I agree with what you say. I have a shed full of older cars that i rotate driving. people think i am nuts but i think they are nuts. Like you mentioned, new prices are high, interest is high, the newer technology cost more to fix and seem to break down faster but what i didn't hear you mention is when you buy new cars, your insurance is more too. guy I know that think i am nuts for having a shed full of older paid off vehicles is making $1500 truck payments and he is complaining about having to pay $2,000 every 6 months for full coverage. Just his payment and his insurance costs him $22,000 a year. he needs overtime every week to make his payments on everything and it has to go back to the dealer when it has a problem which it has been already. I can fix the older stuff myself.

I went out and bought her a 2003 Lexus ES300 for a work car, and had the cats replaced on the GX460 and now she uses it for Church and shopping... I'm looking for a 07-10 ES350 for a work car for myself.... Payment-free paradise... Cash is still king....😀😀😀😀

Bought my ‘02 Civic LX (base trim) in ‘05 and drove it for 18 years total. I paid off the loan in just 4 years (early) and drove it payment free for another 14 years. It wasn’t fancy but I loved that car. Very reliable. (And cheap to run.)
Finally bought a brand new ‘23 Civic Touring (top trim) in January 2023. I paid full MSRP but no market adjustment. Fortunately, I paid cash, so no car payments. Yay! (Over 15 years of no car payments so far…)
I intend to drive it forever like my last Civic, so trade-in value is of no concern. I suspect it won’t last as long as the first Civic though just due to all the electronics. (My first Civic was entirely analog.) Still, I’m hoping to get at least 10-12 years out of the new Civic.
I generally have absolutely no interest in getting another car. As long as I have a good car in working order that’s safe to drive, I’m good. “Car boredom” isn’t a thing for me. ESPECIALLY if it involves car payments!

The 11th gen Civic has had a lot of sticky steering issues but I haven’t experienced that at all. However, I work from home and so don’t drive much and have low mileage. Not sure if that makes a difference…
I bought a 1989 Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0 engine and a manual transmission. Razor straight with a nice interior. I doubt I’ll ever buy a newer car.
the 4.0 will outlive the universe.

I cant find ANY cheap classic square body Chevy S10's anymore. They are all over $5k even projects that don't run are expensive!

I have a 1993. Last year for the square body. I have over $35K and at least 1000 hours invested in it. 420rwhp, carbureted V8, Muncie M21 four speed, Ford 8.8 Trac Lok rear axle. Lots of modifications, all done right. Like new condition. Insured as a collector vehicle. I bought it brand new 31 years ago.
I’ve been buying square bodies for the last 4 years. You can buy them non running under 5k, if your mechanically inclined.
Finished a 87 V20 last year for my son and had 20k in parts and materials, no labor included.
I’m In the middle of a 85 K20, frame off with a new crate 383, and it’s closer to 22k with parts and materials. I’ve got em down to about 90 days build time by myself, including paint, body, lift, tires and wheels.
I build em for my own enjoyment as I can’t stand new trucks with all the computers, modules and leather couch. I just wanted a truck and I’m greeted by many that desire the same.
These cars are junk and I've called them throwaway cars for many years now. The insurance market is part of this mess as they are totaled once the airbags blow. Another problem is how they replace the parts only and mechanics don't fix anything and replace the parts, so increase in maintenance fees. But the biggest problem is so many drive with no insurance…and everyone who is buying insurance is getting hit with higher premiums.

Funny you mentioned your friend with his newer Ram. I bought a brand new 80K Ram Limited Night Edition with Hemi E-Torque & loved it but the $971 a month payment which had a good rate at 2.26%, but it was just too much to invest at 61 years old as I'm more concerned with retirement. So I sold it & got 16K equity out of it & put it down on a 2022 Nissan Maxima loaded for 28K & I love driving it & feel real good about the $434 monthly payment, for a car that is 46K new.

2022 Nissan??? Not only is that thing loaded down with spy devices, driver interference systems, and a WiFi connection that transmits EVERYTHING to the manufacturer, but it has a JATCO CVT "transmission" that will be lucky to last 30,000 miles.

I'm trying to hunt down a S-10 pickup. Always wanted one and modern trucks are so big and overpriced. I just want a nice functional pickup. I'd rather pick one up for a couple grand and throw another couple of grand in it instead of being 10's of thousands under on a new truck.

I just bought a 2006 Lexus ES 330 with 184k miles and leakage issue for $2k. But I work at a dealership. My credit currently is bad but I tried to finance a 2011 Lexus RX 350 with 164k miles for $10k and the suprime bank was asking for a co-signer or 40% down. I said no thank you 😩😌😌

@@LuckyLopez777 I would love to have a Miata, but at 6' 240, I don't fit in one. I have a 2003 V6 Mustang convertible with a 5 speed. And I barely ft in that.
The important thing to remember is a lot of the allocations happened years ago when interest rates were low. The Cybertruck was announced in 2019 - on the edge of COVID - Deliveries didn't really start till recently 2024. Interest rates and the price of the truck are vastly different than what was promised.
During the Pandemic, people were comfortable OVERPAYING on cars. a G-wagon here in NYC was going for $100,000 over sticker. That's absolutely obscene. Now they're stuck with damaged credit, high DTI and underwater on their loans.
SMARTEST THING I DID was kept my 2015 Jeep SRT, paid it off, and didn't upgrade to the 2018 WHACKHAWK. My credit hit 850, my savings rose and I was in an excellent position to buy a house prior to Biden's administration. Now I'm sitting on two properties that cost less - combined - than a typical NYC apartment.

Daily driving a base 07 corolla with a 5 speed. My other vehicle is a 92 chevy 1500 4x4. I can fix either in the parts store parking lot if needed. They are both reliable and simple vehicles for under 5 grand together.
Still have my 96 ranger 2wd 5 speed long bed. I cant seem to break it with 320000 on it. Very relible and even though i have insurance it is so old people might wonder. I can fix most anything and parts are cheap. Thanks for the videos.

89 MR2? I had one and tracked it for years as well as daily driven. Great car and can teach you a lot. They can twitch but aren't the deathtraps people make them out to be at all, thats a SW20 91-92 thing, although i would say their ideal home is like 25-60mph Solo II style stuff rather then anything too high speed, with the short wheelbase (i took mine 80-100+ on track but never tempted drifts at that speed because the one or two times i did it just gets out of hand too quick, 30-60 its easy) Main thing i wish i could have on any other car from it was the steering feel, it was so raw. You could literally feel traction loss through the wheel before any tire noise or butt sensation started hinting it at you, even if a clueless idiot like i was. I had a buddy with a Elise drive it and he told me it felt the same just with more of a actual interior and less power.
Enjoy it even if you just baby it, really cool little car. I would put a intake/exhaust on it earlier if i did it again, you can only really hear valvetrain noise with stock layout but the 4AGE can bring a lot of great Yamaha style noises with very minimal mods to increase its sound level just a bit. NO FACTCANS

I bought a 2005 TT 3.2L DSG Quattro in 2007 with only 14k miles on it. It cost $32k back then ( half sticker price ) Its been my daily driver ever since. The lowest cost of ownership of any car I’ve ever owned. Still runs like a top.
Just recently, I decided to refurbish it, sunk a few grand into new headliner, repainting the top and rear hatch/ deck, replace a fuel pump and AC compressor. Had the wheels dressed, and replaced the headlights and one tail light. It looks like new now, and still drives amazing.
I thought about selling it… but it’s just such a basic pure driving machine, I can’t bring myself to let it go.
I did order a 22 Maverick when they first came out. Paid sticker of 31K. That is about the most I will ever spend on another car, new or used. The Maverick is a great little truck for a reasonable price. But its had 4 recalls already, mostly for computer related/system issues.
The TT has no Bluetooth, no WIFI, no infotainment nor Nav screen. Just a radio and CD player, and, like 7 knobs.
I just bought a nice 05 Chevy Colorado with a very clean, well done LS swap for less than half the receipts not mention the labor. It’s literally set up for a little turbo. AC, PS, etc. There are finally some good deals starting to pop up as people need money. Took me 6 weeks to close the deal
As long as there are enough customers to keep factories open, even for part of the year, automakers will keep making and selling. Automakers will continue to come up with ways to move their vehicles. Not everyone is in a credit crunch, well qualified buyers are still buying, and they maybe enough to keep things afloat for now.
Hi, so I started getting into the automotive industry by playing some simulator games and watching videos to learn the basic things about a car. I’m not too sure about committing my time to becoming a mechanic or technical engineer. I’m not sure where to start. Do I start by working in an auto shop or do I start paying classes at a trade school? What would be the best option without really losing a lot if I’m no longer interested working in the automotive industry?
I realised first hand new cars are too complex, I have a few vehicles right now. One is only 3 years old and while it RUNS, there's always some small thing not working or throwing a warning. I also have a neglected W8 Passat that I am nursing back to health. The shock came into play when I started feeling like the W8 was actually easy to work on. I am afraid to replace a headlight bulb in my 2021 Tiguan.
Bought 2006 E46 M3 Competition 2 years ago and I’ll never give it up. Nor will I buy anything built after 2015 that doesn’t have a stick. New cars have too much tech and not enough soul.
Couldn’t agree more. i will have to look for another vehicle in 2 years for my daughter when she starts driving and wont look at anything past 2018 model year. I don’t want stupid auto stop/start crap or more complicated tech that all it does is decrease overall car reliability.
I been ready for a new car since 2021. I’m keeping my 15 paid off Altima because a 50k car payment would be crippling

Had a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk ... nothing but problems and the dealer refused to fix anything ... had so many electrical issues that for 6 months couldnt even drive it ... i filed an insurance claim for lightning strike and they analyzed it and agreed to write it off. So went and bought a low mile 2011 Volvo C30 T5 Automatic for cheap and it is glorious analog , sporty, fun to drive. Will never buy a new vehicle again.

yep i have 2005 is300 with b dining a 1988 supra soon and geting a jaguar xk 2009 ish range parts ant high like one might think ..my dream car best chassis ever and uses a zf6 box normal parts used in loads or cars and the 1 issues it has has a upgrade from sonex transmission company they make everything in the rebuilding auto box world simple stuff just like any thing research and learn what up and 4.2l with last forever with timing chains did every 150k miles or so
I still drive a 2004 Buick Park Avenue Ultra 3800 Supercharged for 3500.00 4 1/2 years ago and a 1995 Plymouth Acclaim with 9,505 actual miles for 250.00. I refreshed the 2.5L engine for less than 500 parts and labor. I have less than a 1000 in the 1995 Acclaim all in. It now has10450 actual miles.This car has manual windows manual locks Auto PS/PB Cold A/C Tilt wheel Cruise Control rear defrost alum snow flake wheels ttrip computer gauge package Infinity II Sound System cassette/cd.
Miss my roll up windows in my 1989 Acura Integra which I kept for 16 years. I would keep my 2012 Prius for 20 years but I will get an Aptera Solar car in next year or two.
I had roll up windows on my very first car too. A 1980 Toyota Corolla. Great car. Had power brakes, but no power steering (or AC). It had to be moving a little or you almost couldn't turn the wheel. You drive and got a great work out :)
A Toyota from the 90s will probably last at least 50 years. Anything from 2023 will last 3 years then break by design because they want you to buy another.

My 2007 ES 350 still runs great at 162K miles. Good Lord willing I'm keeping the maintenance up and plan to keep it for a long time.

I have a 97 Avalon. Paid $1400. 256k miles. Reliable, everything works and it still looks good. I have no plans to buy another car. One of the most reliable cars I had was a 65 Dodge with a slant 6. Never had an issue with it.
