- This guitar features some of the nicest fretwork I've seen on a sub-$1000 guitar. 22 big, beautiful frets on an equally nice roasted maple neck and fretboard. Wilkinson hardware and a pro-level gig bag complete the package. Let's plug in this beautiful guitar and see how it sounds!

Shijie isn’t messing around. I love mine and I’m sure this is nothing short of stellar as well. Nice vid!
Good to hear!
How would you describe the neck ? Modern C ? Or thicker. It looked fairly Beefy
@@terryenglish7132 I own an STE (Strat), and it’s definitely a modern C. I don’t know about Max’s though. Probably the same, as I’m sure Max would have mentioned a beefy neck due to his playing style.
@@11thFret I checked out another review, yeah, Modern C, which is weird because the way the neck joins the heel is like a V.
I've been beating my Shijie STRAT for a solid year +. It is my grabber guitar at the moment. If you are a heavy player (frequent) the Satin finish WILL GLOSS, along with the fret board, but imo not an issue, just cosmetic. Electronics are solid. Fret work was great up to the 21st fret, the 'they'll never play here zone, so lets skimp' area. The Strings hung regularly under 21,22, until I rounded the frets down the board. Rounded would have been nice out of the bag, based on my expectations. They were nice, & I can be a dynamic player, at times 'HAMFISTED', which led to the discovery of these offending frets. Jazz, country, palm muters, shouldn't run into this, & will likely be satisfied. Quality wood, beautiful figuring in the neck. If you go relic, don't be let down when the finish looks like a 2nd grade art project. I'm a modder, & could really give a cracked rat what the guitar finish looks like, as long as the rig is clean, FULLY set up, working order. So, relic job is a pharce, of a pharce. Who cares?....., play it, you'd drop double the money on the same 2 piece body from FENDER. Worth the money? yes. Love affair? was for me. Take my fret analysis with a grain of salt, I typically have to work on ALL MY GUITARS, cheap, or expensive, there's always something off,(stop being lazy, you play, guitar, you need to learn SETUP), always. I'd do it again...
Looks beautiful and sounds great as well, love that roasted neck. Thank you for the review!
People...... honestly.....if you can buy a shijie get one ! Yous definitely won't be disappointed,in fact I think yous would be pleasantly surprised...... I've got the strat and a single cut model..... unfortunately they stopped making the Les Paul type, but the build quality and sound on these are amazing...... I took the gamble and I couldn't be happier 😁. Got a friend who used to work with fender year's ago and I've shown him both the strat and the LP.....he said the build quality of the strat matched the custom shop fenders ! Good enough critique for me ! Unfortunately I'm not working anymore ot the Tele would be here already 👍
That’s it. I’m sold. Shijie is a guitar in my future.
Great jazz playing! And that neck pickup is as smooth as silk. I love it.
Reminds me a little of the Sire telecaster T7.
Nice review. Shared on Facebook and Reddit Shijie groups.
Awesome, thank you!
Let's all thank Trevor Wilkinson for his beautiful simple parts...
Thanks Trev, you’re a top bloke, thanks for the bridges and pickups I have 😂👍🇦🇺🍻🍻🍻
I agree , Wilkinson makes a lot of good parts. I buy a lot of their pickups and locking tuner's , honestly the pickups are very good for what they cost. It's hard to justify spending 3 times as much for name brand one's IMO!
I "live" in the land of Clean Tones (while I recognize most who follow your channel do not), so I really love this guitar. The only exception is, Maple Necks have a Hate, Hate, HATE relationship with me. I know there are multitudes of people that absolutely love them and wouldn't have anything else. I'm just not one of them. I still love the sound of this guitar. Thanks for another great demo video, Max. Please keep the great videos coming!!
Agreed. The only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on one of these is I need the rosewood or ebony fingerboard.
@@ltgray2780 I could really get into one with the rosewood or ebony fretboad, too. I guess two isn't enough to convince them to make a "special run" for us??? (Yes, an attempt at levity.) Thank you for the comment.
@@lostreb Upon closer inspection, it seems that there is actually a seperate roasted maple finger board. But the only ones in the USA are in Cali, and I'm in western Pennsylvania. Really want to try one. The team building them seems great. Think I'm going to go for it.
I have a Shijie RT Custom and a cheaper TM380. Both are near flawless in the fit and finish. Perfect necks and fret work and the build quality is close to custom shop level.
I got a gold Shijie STE PRO this past September. Stainless steel frets, Gotoh locking tuners, Canadian maple roasted neck, fantastic pickups (all standard features)...this axe sounds wonderful and stays in tune. Cost me under $1,500 USD plus import duties (I'm in Canada). This guitar rivals an Xotic or Suhr and for half the price. A more than quality guitar for a reasonable price.
It looks just like an Eart guitar, which is sub $500. I think about $369 actually.
Beautiful playing and nice guitar, going for the Shijie strat or Tm5, Eart t380 for tele. Thank you Max for all your great reviews.
Boy u werent kidding about going HAM on budget guitars!
Prices have jumped on this brand in the last year. I was in to buy without playing it first. With the raise in price I want to play first but no one has any to try..
Really great quality stuff 👍🤘 very cool
Bag reminds me of newer Gibson bags. I have two and love them!
Sounds like my Tele that i built from a kit , i used all Wilkinson hardware and pickups. I have about $250.00 invested in it , and it sounds just as good as this...
Cool story bro.
Any guitar sounds good if you put good pickup in it lol. The extra money is for fit and finish, feel, tuning stability, reliability etc.
I have 3 Shijie Guitars; STE (strat style), TLV (tele style), TM6 (superstrat style). All of them are just incredibly made and like you said best fretwork of any guitars ever.
Thanks for the report! I'd like to check out the TM6 myself!
@@GuitarMAXMusic mine is actually the TM6FR which has the original Floyd Rose without the fine tuners. It’s very similar to the Guthrie Govan Charvel in that regard. After adding a little chap stick in the nut slots it’s been really solid on holding its tuning.
I play METAL on my Tele and it sounds great.
Metal on a Tele is GREAT. I played some a couple nights ago on mine. And I even had Vintera 50s pickups installed in it!

Picked up two guitars this week and I'm extremely excited to play them in a worship set, I got a Luna Gypsy Quilted Ash in transparent purple
And a PRS Tremonti SE Les Paul both feel great have not plugged either of them in yet but acoustic speaking the Luna doe snot disappoint!
Clean sounds superb!
3:25 " you never play it like that" i do n most of the time
Sounded good. Roasted Maple helps the sound, Maple's great mellow mids w more sweet highs and better sustain.
I love your channel Max, but instead of solving my problem of what guitar to purchase for my Grandson’s birthday, you continue to show excellent guitars. Can you talk about some amps? I might as well be totally confused.
You have been talking about your grandson for ages Mr Grinch. I hope he does not live down in Whoville.
Great tones, I’m not a Tele fan. Bang for the buck is awesome. I’ve seen a couple of Shijie reviews and all have been way above par for price, playability and quality build.
Me neither , but after building my own Tele from a diy kit and customizing it to my specs i love it. I don't think i would spend almost a grand for a Chinese guitar though. I don't want to support anything made from them...

It seems like everyday is Christmas day at the Carlisle household.
I have a 2020 STE PRO SSS and the quality is really unlike anything else I have ever played. If I HAD to find something that isn’t perfect, it is a little heavy and the neck isn’t an exact modern c … but I would have needed to spend over $2000 to get this quality of guitar in any other brand. Just buy one
8:17 sounded like Badlands Winter's Call (the most underrated band of that era, imo).
Nice looking guitar but I just don't think I could pull the trigger on an $800 Chinese guitar.
Pull the trigger. If you like the style of the guitar, the color and the features of the guitar, I speak from personal experience that every single one of their guitars tops anything coming out of a fender or Gibson custom shop. Means that sincerely. These are worth far far more than every penny they cost. I’ve played just about everything at every price point and these are the best I have played and heard. If they cost 5 times more they would be in the ballpark.
As well as everything else you've mentioned, the other thing going for the guitar is that the headstock is not hidious like many other brands that bring out their versions of the classic designs. It is pretty much in keeping with the original without being exactly the same. Naff headstocks would totally put me off otherwise decent guitars. 😊😊🎸🎸
Ever since buying a Shijie STE Hardtail my three Fenders have been collecting dust and are pretty much resigned to wall art nowadays. Not just a guitar that's good for the money. It puts some $2000 dollar guitars in the shade.
I've had a 7 string from them and it's my favorite guitar. 1000 shipped for a guitar that would be worth 2000+ if it were made by an American company. I want to get a 6 string from their black pearl series if they ever start making them again
I really want a T-style. I think this might be the one.
You could do a LLLLOT worse. This is a solid buy.
This guitar seems okay, but I would prefer a six saddle bridge to a three bolt barrel design. Getting the intonation right with these is way harder and the G string is always the hardest one to intonate. Certain features are okay, but you can buy a Fender player plus Telecaster with 12" neck radius, locking tuners, noiseless pickups, back contours for comfort etc. In the same price range.
I totally agree with my preference being a six saddle bridge. However, I cannot get behind the Fender Player Plus charging me extra for features that not only am I not even remotely interested in, which to use your analogy, are OK, but I'm not paying extra for them. Before you think I'm anti-Fender, I own 3 American Professional II Strats (both SSS and HSS) and 2 MIM Player Strats (SSS and HSS) and 1 Fender MIJ Modern Player Strat (HSS). It's just Fender charging extra for features I'm not interested in that I have a problem with. After having said that...I "KNOW" there are thousands of people that "Love" the Player Plus line because Fender keeps selling them out. I'm just not one of them. I fall back on...Like everything else with guitars, everything is a matter of personal preference. What's right for you might be the worst ever for me. Fender just stepped all over my personal preferences with the Player Plus (with the exception of a couple of interesting colors, but, now that I've seen them since the initial release? Not so interesting to me now.).
I have a Shoji Strat and love it.
More expensive than most MIC guitars but let's face it, the Chinese have been making guitars for a looong time now. It was inevitable that they'd start to get very good at it. This guitar seems to be worth every penny.
Beautiful guitar Max! I'm going to look for a lefty.
I don't understand why using a delay for presenting a guitar
Otherwise specs presented well
If this is as good or better then my Harley Benton Fusion then iam in man cool vid!
Hello,
where can I buy the Shijie Guitars in Germany.
Are there actually no dealers in Germany?
Can someone help ?
Greetings Robby
Right now I'm really conflicted about buying Chinese guitars. They're locking people's in their apartment buildings and starving them too death!
So, do I buy Chinese? If I don't will even more people starve? Damned hard right now Max.
But really nice guitar for sure.
Jack ~'()'~
I hear you. Like you, I find a lot of whats going on right now disturbing. But the people making these guitars are not the same people locking others up. There are good people and bad people in every country I'm sure.
@@GuitarMAXMusic Its the government that are bad.
I hear ya. I expected a bigger "at least some kind of" backlash against Chinese products post Covid. But....
Um, please don't confuse the Chinese Government with the hard working people of China. They are not the same. Just like here...
@@iamkimes Um, Did you even read my post? Show me where I ever made a comparison between the Chinese dictator and Chinese people.
I'll save you the time - I didn't!
I clearly stated my "CONFLICT" where I am reluctant to support a brutal monster like that, HOWEVER - THIS REPLY IS A DIRECT QUOTE, because you obviously did not read it, or can't comprehend it.
AGAIN -
"((If (I don't, buy Chinese products) will even more people starve))? Damned hard right now))*
My point was - if we stop buying Chinese products, the workers will suffer, and my "Conflict" is exactly that! I don't want to support an evil dictator, you know, like Justin Turdo!
But, as I expressed, I don't think their people should suffer, and so I'm of the opinion right now, where no government wants to take a legitimate stand against China, who I firmly believe were a HUGE and leading factor in scoffing the White House in one of the most corrupt and blatantly obvious thefts, that we SHOULD continue supporting the efforts and overwhelming proof that Maga/Mega Patriot Mike Lindell exposed!!
If you go to his sight, you can see the evidence for yourselves!
It would take several pages for me to post all the corroborative evidence on H.B. PROVING beyond any shadow of doubt, however, you can have a look at it for yourself if you think I'm lying, I'll leave a link

Are the pickups ceramic? Or, Alnico III, V?

love your playing. You play in any band?
Wow the opening tone was like a semi hollow body
Idk I play my electric unplugged every morning :b rather impressed with the neck and fretwork reminds me of my michael kelly has them extra jumbo frets that are nice n rounded plus binding on the neck so the frets don't go all the way to the edge and my michael kelly was around the 600 dollar range but build quality feels better than my buddies gibson even better than my schecter c1 apocalypse that cost double that lol michael kelly all day :b ill prolly end up getting my tele style from them too but this one in the video is pretty nice and sounds good as well
It's just a murderously difficult price point, with a MIM Player Tele basically the same money. They have to convince people it's closer to an American Pro II in terms of quality. Still enjoying my Slick!
It's better than an American Pro. I have 3.
if you have watched the vids that philip mcnight and darrell braun have made on these shije guitars you know these are killer guitars , the only thing is there price point , but hey what do you want , if you want a killer guitar you will have to pay up , this is not some aert / harley benton or whatever low bugdet brand guitar , sure those guy's make great guitars for the money , but these shije guitars are on a different level and there a lot better made then the fender player series or prs se wich pricewise are in the same ballpark . If you're in the market for an mid ranged priced guitar that has top notch sounds and specs , this is the winning ticket . So for all the guy's who are looking at these low bugdet guitars brands but in fact want to have a real serious made good guitar , i would say , save up a bit more and get these shije guitars if you're in the strat /tele thing .
Yikes, $898 before tax… a little out of my price range. Thanks for the review. Excellent playing (as always).

Looks really nice and I'm sure it plays great, but I still say that price is too high.
I think it might actually be a good price. If you compare that with Fenders and Squiers and such in that price range you might find it's actually superior in many ways. Depends on the player. Each person has his own idea of quality. Some prefer Suhr S guitars to Fender for example.
Any chance you know of high-end Chinese companies like this or Eastman who make basses?
Review Stagg Les Paul.
Creating a composite out of an existing idea and spec'ing it out of the ballpark is in just about everyone's reach. No innovation in the design, trem or pickups. I think this is where Sire really has an edge. The guitars have unique timbre, thanks to their collaboration with Larry Carlton.
Extra protection for the tip.
If you're getting interested in jazz, Max, may I suggest Joe Pass? If I can ever play like that guy I'll die a happy man.
Also, if you didn't see em, Shije's making some nice shredders, 7 strings, multi-scales, modern finishes... looks like they're trying to emulate Solar, to me.
It's fine...It's a tele. Pretty much can do anything with it except dive bombs
The thing just sings
What’s the weight?
Are those stainless frets?
What Fender range would you say this is the closest to in terms of quality?
I had a Shijie S style, and for me quality wise was above the fender USA pro series. Is on the level of the Ibanez AZ Japanese model. Shijies indeed are very very good.
I've had Suhr, 3 of them, and having a shijie I dont miss having a suhr. Just like having the ibanez AZ also dont miss the suhr. Akthough Suhr is absolutely flawless, no doubt, but shijie and ibanez are aslo very very good and high quality guitars.
Man very cool solo in the intro, and the guitar seems to be very good, but mann I hate telecasters!

Enjoyed the video. $800 for a Chinese guitar.? I don't think so!
Prolly a great sounding guitar but why does it weigh? So tired of heavy guitars😩
Weight on mine is 7.6 lbs.
I don’t know, at $800.00 that’s not too far away from an American Fender. As you said though the quality is a major influence but I have a Mexican made strat that is absolutely fantastic. I did install locking tuners and replaced the pups with EMG single coils. It also has a pot installed that acts like a distortion effect. Still all in all I only have about $700.00 in it and it blows my old American made out of the water.
For that amount you can buy a real Tele.
Sure, the fret ends are nicer than on a Player Tele (which I have), but that is very easy to fix.
They can keep their Chinese stuff as far as I'm concerned.
I love all those $800 "real" Teles with roasted necks. Oh, wait...
799 isn't cheap no matter where it's made
rather go with the Eart for 1/3rd the cost.. wow yea after looking at their website $2400 for a tele? "custom" ... just another company getting out of control with the pricing.. they can have em.. too many of the same level for a fraction, what gives?
They are not cheap, money wise.....
Never ever put a guitar in a big bag onto an airplane into luggage cuz they will destroy your guitar they don't give a shit so never use a gig bag cuz I think it'll be fucked up beyond recognition
Gig bag for traveling by plane??? Sounds like a terrible idea unless you are buying a seat for your guitar. If your guitar is going in the cargo hold even a Tele style is likely to be damaged if it's only in a gig bag... you need a proper flight case if your guitar is going with the checked baggage.
These Chinese guitars will be like 59' Gibsons in about 20yrs. 😁
