DON'T GIVE UP - by Guillermo Meyer - voice: the Buccaneer

This poem, which in numerous publications and pages is attributed to Mario Benedetti, was not written by the Uruguayan poet, as the Foundation that bears his name clarifies on its page.
Although until not long ago the authorship of the poem seemed to be a mystery, the website “Soy Literauta” managed to contact the original author of “No te surrenders”. This is an Argentine writer Guillermo Meyer, who created this work in 1993.
“It was my first poem and one of the few I wrote. I wrote it for myself, at a very difficult moment in my life, and it came from within my being to encourage me and make me see that I should not give up.”
Hortensia Campanella, a Literature teacher in Uruguay, president of the Mario Benedetti Foundation, gave an explanation about this in an interview with the AFP news agency.
“It actually appears on the internet with great prominence. The first thing that appears about him (Benedetti) is usually that poem (…) someone who knows Benedetti's work well would never attribute that text to him,” he noted.
Despite this, he said that the main confusion could be in the name of the poem, since Mario Benedetti wrote “Don't save yourself”, and as with “Don't give up”, the title of the text is repeated throughout all the verses.
