- Mandy Patinkin was cast as the Teen Angel in a 1970 ad for 7-Up. In this clip we get to hear how he got suggested for the role and how the shooting had to be reschedule due to a conflict with his High School graduation.
Wow, I was beginning to think I had imagined this commercial. I must have been about 7 or 8 years old, and it kind of creeped me out. Now I know it existed! Thank you Internet!
I loved these commercials! I was 15 in 1972 and was nuts for the 50s, so these commercials were exactly what I was looking for!
I remember seeing this ad in the evening on a CBS affiliate ... loved it. I liked Sha Na Na too.....greaser music from my Dad's decade. Never knew until this week that this guy was the actor who starred in Chicago Hope.
I remember this commercial, back in the good old days living in New Haven, Ct.
this commercial was so popular in 1972 that it made you want to go back to the 1950s and drink Coke cola ,so they had to quickly make another commercial where he says "We would of had a 7 up to but with Betty lu it was always cola & fry's"...The didn't realize that the 1950s nostalgia was just coming into play...They dropped this concept right after second one ...I remember this well ..loved this commercial
He said"...wearing a bicycle clip on your chinos." small metal bands wore round pants cuff to keep it out of chain or crank on bicycle. Really squaresville in 1957!!!
The teen angel reminds me of myself when I was in high school 😭😭😭
Wow! What a blast from the past!
So cool. Thanks for digging this up.
I was about 11 or 12 in '72! My family went to a lot of drive-in movies. I thought a ghost kid pulling up in a ghost car was cool back then!
I remember the malt shop commercial. I would have been 6 or 7. I didn't know there was a 1950s or what it was like. I got it that he was talking about the past, though.
I remember these commercials. I think I was only 17 at the time.
I'm surprised that Patinkin would risk this gig just to attend his graduation. I discovered EC comics in 1970. In the spring of '72, I learned of the upcoming EC Fan Addict Convention, which was scheduled to open the day that my graduation took place. It was no contest. EVERYBODY graduates from HS, if they've got ay brains. Very few get to hang with Bill, Al, Harvey, Wally, Jack, Marie, Roy, Will, Jack, Al, Joe, George..... Wonderful memories!
I think that the background music is totally made up by the ad agency strictly for this commercial. I still like it though.
"ya'-think?!"?
Wow Mandy has been acting for a long time, since he was in high school!!!!
What does he say : "it's like riding a bike with chino's" if thats not what he said correct me?
That music 1:30
A dentist with a leather jacket from the 1950s? Was it Orin Scrivello, DDS????
Probably saved it from his teenage years. I saved some of my clothes from high school back in 2014 like my leather jacket, plaid shirts, and other jackets.
Did he say "It Was Like Riding A Bicycle To A BANYACINO?????? What is that?
