    I just cleaned the her valve I didn’t clean the ports, I never understood why the code kept coming back even though I replaced the egr valve. Thank you🙌🏽

    I've pulled those EGR Port plugs on 2 different H22A4's inside the engine bays of 2 different 1999 Honda Prelude's. Getting those port plugs out is quite tedious and I split the I/M one of the 2 times. I didn't think it was necessary to split the I/M. during the second H22A4 egr port cleaning. Your video is good and definitely would be helpful to use if you've never done this job.

    You should use gum out carb cleaner. You can put shop vac on egr mount plate, and beyond the plugs is a chamber, but below each plug is a 1/4 inch hole leading into intake that need to be gently reamed

    When you drilled into the EGR ports, no debris landed in the manifold? also blowing air directly in there doesn't push all the build up in the manifold?
    What were the symptoms that your Prelude was having (aside from the code) that made you do all this?
    Thanks for the video!

      The common trick is to have a vacuum in operation so as you're drilling it sucks up the metal shavings so they don't go in the manifold. Honda techs (I talked to one) use compressed air only for this job so if they're doing it it's good for me. Of course I also used 2 cans of carb cleaner and got is super clean. Between the air and cleaner I think I got most of it, maybe some got pushed into the abyss but I got most of it. The code is what led me to clean the EGR valve, but while I was in there I realized how dirty everything was which led me to do the EGR port plug carbon clean. Dealerships do it as a routine maintenance. It should be done on occasion, mine were very clogged. The car runs better.

      Most of or all debris is coming up the drill bit flutes, and it's brass. It'll go right through

      @@thatguy5339 i cleaned out my brothers 2000 prelude egr ports for California smog. Had it tested and passed for smog. After smog i put a block off plate for the egr valve. Basically a gasket that has no round or square part for the egr to flow. I did this because i dont want it to plug up with carbon again. We all know hondas burn oil. Lol. I dont care if the light comes back on. I will just take it back off when smog is due and clear the code and run monitor. I love California but hate the people that run it. Lol

    • @gray25xt
      @gray25xt 3 года назад

      I don't believe you because (1) Honda's EGR service does not include that step and (2) I cleaned out a ton of solid, caked-on debris....to suggest that that's not doing much isn't accurate. Those passages were fully clogged, it made a difference in the way the car ran and my mpg improved as well.
