Where's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road? Sorry, that's my #1. It's dramatic and instantly recognizable.

Sir Elton has so so many great songs. Love the choices @pierrejpiscitelli made. Looking forward to hearing more. Now I wish I could play piano.

Maybe not as a best "intro" candidate, but I think one of Elton's best piano performances (and Bernie Taupin's best lyrical works) is "Ticking". Not very well known or played much, but absolute genius!

I came into this thinking Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding would be on here - just goes to show how amazingly deep his catalogue is 🎹

Oh yeah, that’s one of my all time favorites! I don’t even know how much of those first few minutes of instrumental brilliance, would qualify as an “intro”? Hard to say!

I can relate to this. When I should have been learning my classical pieces, I was figuring out Elton's chord progressions and intros. 😂

Also with you on Elton's 80s material. He released some great songs in that decade.

Elton was the composer who exposed my ear to sus chords, pedal tones and non-root chord tones in the bass.
It opened up so many harmonic possibilities without straying into upper extensions or dominant chords.

Rick Beato sent me, and I have to say ... he hasn't been wrong yet!
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" clinched it. I had to subscribe.

Especially loved that the "Daniel" intro made this list-one of my all-time favorite Elton tunes! It would be great to have a full lesson on "Daniel" (or some of the others on this solid list).

Yes, I realize you can only choose 10 and they turned out very well. Maybe you'll listen to the Blue Moves album, which is musically the most interesting to me and among my three favorite Elton albums. There are also jazzy songs here, for example. "Idol, or Tonight that has a classical touch" .Ballads that you might particularly like as a piano player. A strong album with also nice intros see "Idol"

Exactly the same story with me. Had a great classical teacher who was a fabulous concert pianist, but I wanted to play like Elton. My favorites came from his early ‘70’s stuff because, well, it was back in the early ‘70’s! The whole Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album blew me away and my favorites were the title cut, Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Grey Seal, I’ve Seen That Movie Too and Ballad Of Danny Bailey. Then I bought Madman Across The Water with Tiny Dancer and Levon. Learned them all at 10. Nice job with Beato! I’m sure you’ll see a big leap in your subs. Good luck!

I’m a big fan too. Those books are generally arranged and slightly tweaked in order to be easier for the reader. Also, Elton is a great improviser, so he was always varying his intros slightly as the years went on! Thanks for watching.

Hey, would you be able to do a lesson on the intro to the song “I guess that’s why they call it the blues” yours seem to be the most accurate to the album! I’ve listened and checked out a lot of great tutorials but everytime I listened to them and compared it to the album, I kept hearing something off. Like for example the first chord is exactly as you played it, a C triad in second inversion on middle C , while everyone is playing it an octave higher. Would really love to hear that one broken down in more detail! 😅
    Awesome work anyways!

I hadn't made the connection before, but hearing some of these intros by themselves is making me see stylistic similarities between Elton and Randy Newman that I hadn't previously noticed.

That was a great video. I saw you on Rick Beato’s channel and came over to subscribe to yours. Your perfect pitch is impressive. Elton is one of the greats. Thanks for the video. Do you like Erroll Garner? It would be cool to see a video or series of videos on him. I wish I could figure out the intro to Octave 103 from Closeup in Swing. It’s pretty cool sounding. His Gershwin and Kern album slaps pretty hard too. Foggy Day in London has a little bit of it all. Thanks for all the knowledge you share with us and stay well.
