The Problem With Sakamoto Days

  • Sakamoto Days been getting a lot of success recently, and for good reason. The fights are fantastic, the character writing is solid, and the general vibe of the manga literally oozes aura. Couple that with fan favorites like Nagumo, Sakamoto, Shin, Gaku and Takamura (RIP) stealing the show every time they're on screen, and you have a recipe for a hit manga. But beneath all the positives and beyond my glazing of Nagumo, lies Sakamoto Days' biggest problem, being it's rushed endings, so I figured that I'd talk about it today.

My biggest disappointment with the Museum arc was that we could've had the best Sakamoto vs fight in the series cause this was a literal exhibition of assassin weapons and imagine how crazy Sakamoto would've gone in a whole ass museum full of assassin weapons.

Bro I had the same idea there was so many opportunities with the museum setting that most action anime’s don’t do. Plus it could have been used as a major upgrade to characters like shin and kaji.

Yeah, the ending to the museum arc was definitely jarring. Not getting explanations for what happened to a large chunk of the cast was very odd. I remember reading the chapter after it ended and being somewhat confused. My guess is that Suzuki wanted the arc to end on a high note with takamuras death, and since he could easily explain what happened to other characters later on, he decided to move on. That’s just a guess tho. I gotta disagree with you on the flashback arc tho. I thought setting up the mystery with what happened to akao was great, and we already got to see sakamoto and nagumos relationship origins earlier in the arc so I’m not disappointed in not seeing their start in the order.

So much left unexplained for Kumanomi & Osaragi HOLY! First Osaragi shows up with a new buzz saw after her weapon was rusted by Mafuyu. She attacks Amane and practically ignores Kumanomi who the Order got a description of beforehand. Several Chapters later, Amane got away from Osaragi who was gripping him by the neck and the way she gets dealt with is literally the same thing we already saw.
      Just wow...

The issue for me is less about individual arcs having rushed endings but rather the series itself feeling like its approaching the "endgame" too fast. We went from the confrontation in the museum arc to the JAA hunting Sakamoto to Uzuki slaughtering JAA branches in just a couple of chapters. It feels like its the final arc right now and if thats the intent of the author then its fine I guess but I am really hoping for at least a couple more arcs.

I disagree. The flashback arc was okay; it wasn't rushed. But for the museum arc, Suzuki sensei could've shown us what happened to the Seba brothers, Amane, Kashima, Gaku, Kumanomi, and many others. Uzuki's situation will probably be shown later on. And in recent chapters, we've seen Shishiba and Osaragi with the new Order members and stuff meanwhile Nagumo, Sakamoto, and Shin have teamed up together which is very interesting. Let's see what happens next and maybe we'll see where the other characters are at right now.

It's funny you mentioned solving it's biggest issue could help it reach jjk level when one of jjk major complaints (not from me though)is that it's too fast paced
I wasn't bothered by the flashback arc. But yeah the museum was really jarring. I think it would have been fine had Takamura not died that fast. Every other thing with amane and kumamomy would be forgiven

All this video does is show how any fanbase of a manga that releases weekly likes to complain. You, the reader, do not have to know everything, right now. For how much you compliment the entire arc, you harp on the fact that small loose ends aren’t tied up right away. All of the “rushed” accusations mean nothing when you accept that this manga does not have to answer you right away. Let the story play out.

    • @asianpablo1574

    • @Czulki
      @Czulki 3 месяца назад +4

So you didn't watch the video?? The complaint is not about never getting answers to the overarching plot, its about missed details of what happened to the characters inside the museum during the final fight.
There is literally no way the author will go back and explain what exactly went on to the side characters lol. The conclusions were rushed, it has nothing to do with the plot itself.

  • @AndréVilaFranca

I agree with your points and I hope Suzuki and the editor are aware of it.
In some cases like Sakamoto's past it might just be a part of his writing style and he's restraining himself from telling us everything so soon but in the case of the most recent arc I think it's a flaw and it deserved a longer finale.
I hope Suzuki gets better at it because in the art department specially the fight choreography he's already one of the best in the magazine.

  • @Updoggo1

I definitely think the anime will fix the ending issues, you can really drag on a lot more and put more drama and idk, impact on certain moments? But part of me also kinda feels like how "quickly" it ends almost feels like a tiny bit of a reality check in a way, like how fast people can just get dispatched in this series. I think it could've benefitted from a couple more chapters but I also don't really mind how it ended

The flashback arc's quick timeskips make since to me, Sakamoto is telling this story to Shin, so he doesn't really need to dwell on how he became the greatest hitman or his time in the Order. He needs to tell Shin how he met Uzuki, what he did, and how Sakamoto thought he killed him. His time in the order or what happens in-between that and the one year doesn't matter because Sakamoto is catching Shin up on the importants about X

Watching this after being caught up. Ok I’m not going to lie the museum situation was a little all over the place and honestly I just didn’t like how they brought in Kaji 130 chapters in. I did enjoy the nuance motives and intentions though no one is really good or bad they are just doing their jobs. I don’t like Uzuki though at all. His ability to take out Mr. T was kindve an ass pull. Seeing as no one else seems to depend on a mental disorder. Everyone just has a skill that’s magnified x10.

To be honest, for me Sakamoto Days has good characters with good characterization but they lack depth in them and at the moment the slur does not convince me as a villain. I thought this arc would benefit from going into more depth, but ultimately that wasn't the case (or rather not as much as I expected) plus I was disappointed with this ending to the arc, so to fully appreciate the manga I decided to just watch it as a John Wick with good action and great characters.

i agree it felt rushed at the ending and it def had the potential to live up to the shibuya incident but i personally think that because we compare this arc to the shibuya arc is why we feel a bit let down. The shibuya arc was almost a 10/10 and the entirety of jjk was building up to it where as in this museum arc it was much much less built up thats my take on this i still liked the arc and i think its a 7-8/10 the ending and the amount of off screen events bumps it down a few points.

But since Suzuki sensei will explain what went down exactly later anyways I'm willing to bump it up to low to mid 9/10 out in retrospect.
