      Didn’t know that they actually docked the tails! I just assumed that they just cut the tail short, I agree that it is a barbaric thing to do. It’s illegal to dock in Australia as they have found that animals can suffer from long term pain if not done properly.

    Gorgeous horses in tip top condition. I was always forbidden by my Ma and Granny from going to horse auctions because 'your heart can't take it'. I know obvs of the $1M + Thoroughbred Racehorses at Keeneland in Kentucky but have seen some other types of auction on Horse Plus YT channel - they rescue horses from 'slaughter pipeline' and are amazing at rehabilitating and rehoming horses often in a seriously pitiful state (sometimes drugged so the limp is less pronounced etc). .

      Yes I watch HorsePlus as well. I could not do what they do, emotionally would not be able to handle but glad there are folks out there like them doing that work. This auction was tip top as you say. Young working stock going to new farms and older stock with plenty of life left in them. No kill pen animals here. I’m going back next week again to look at equipment and will be posting another video. I appreciate it and thx for watching! Dave

      It was really a neat experience that you need to see for yourself. That entire area is so addicting! All of the shops outside of the auction and the beautiful countryside. prices always go up because our money is worth less. Inflation is the carrot on a stick for average folks that are ever getting squeezed out of (buying power) profits. As most buying power of the Amish deminishes they can actually say that when the market falls, they can not tell.

    The horses are Gorgeous but I do not like the fact that the Amish may act all innocent here but when they aren’t in the line light they treat their animals badly and when they are either to old or injured or broken they are taken to slaughter it’s a known fact as well another thing as well when the gentleman introduced the place to us he said that a lot of the horses had been sold already well being that the Amish were all around that area the Amish had them also the Amish are known for puppy mill farming as well I no I will get hate but it’s the reality of what really happen these gorgeous horses do not stand a chance no matter what breed or what breeding they are from

    • @bdradley1
      @bdradley1  Год назад

      I agree with you to a large extent Denise. I will say however after spending time with some of them, they do take care of the horses. I think the ones that come to this high end sale are more reputable than others. Puppy mills are huge in this area, it seems that the Ohio Amish are the pup breeders, not Indiana, Pennsylvania or other states. I tried to go in one last week on my visit there but was quickly told no I wasn’t allowed. I found that they are surprisingly highly regulated and subject to inspection at any time with no notice. I do not agree with it but it’s part of their culture we don’t control. Every animal they own is a tool and they have no emotional connection as we do. Thx for watching! Dave

    People (what people) are paying those prices without a veterinarian check, x-rays, and actually hitching them to vehicle? That was line driving and some horses where not even in harness. Did those prices include the harnesses?

    • @bdradley1
      @bdradley1  Год назад +4

      Vets were on site to do any checks or blood work needed, you could hitch them to any type of wagon you wanted provided by weaver wagons and drive until you were content. Driving was the day prior to sale. In some cases the harness was included but mostly it was just the horses. I just didn't show that out of respect as it was too congested and lots of spectators. Why do they cut some of the Belgian horses tails off?

    • @bdradley1
      @bdradley1  Год назад +1

      For some reason if your going to show them, they have to have docked tails. The Amish like to breed for the hitch class (like the Budweiser Clydesdales) and they dock the tails at birth, most of them never make it to that level and go through life with a short tail. It also helps with not getting tangled in your lines but I personally prefer the long tails and wish they were all long tails but tradition is hard to break I guess.
