WindMule Acres
США
Добавлен 9 дек 2011
We will be developing an old farmers field into our interpretation of a modern farm with an old time twist!. We will be adding fencing, building a barn, building a shop, getting an antique windmill and have it fully operational! We have mules as well, and hoping to add some draft horses and some horse drawn equipment in the future so we can relive some of what our ancestors went through when they were working the land before the age of all the modern computers and Iphones.
It is really relaxing just to step away from the rat race that we are all in and just slow down to smell and hear all of the wonderful sounds of nature. I think we all could use a little farm life in us! Its going to be a fun journey and we are glad you have decided to follow us!

DRAFT HORSES // Pictorial of 9 teams spreading manure on a beautiful October weekend
This weeks video is a little different format, it is a pictorial version. It is about 9 friends who get together annually in the fall , with their draft horses, to help a farmer spread his summer collection of cow manure around the farm. Each team hauled about 30 loads.

I wanted a team of Belgians but wasn’t looking, then these guys came available. I paid more for them than I should but really liked their coloring. As usual it’s cheaper to buy young weanlings and start fresh than buying a finished team, not to mention the fun you have working with the youngsters!

Thank you for sharing your mule info. I found it very educational as I did not know that their body structure is so different along with using different tact. I remember my grandparents talking about their mules and their covered wagon. I had a horse whom I dearly loved--my best friend, but now at later years, I wonder how 🤔 I would do with a calm mule. And do they eat a tad of alphalfa? Just curious?
@@cgeorge577 thank you cg I appreciate the kind words. I think at any age, we can all benefit from a calm mule. They absolutely will eat alfalfa. Thx for watching! Dave
So well said !!

@@andrewthornton1945 yes they are a good group of guys that get together about 4 times a year or more to spread manure, cut and bale hay, thrash oats. Sadly the older guys are dying off with no one to replace them. There is normally 12 teams but this weekend only 9 could make it
Morning, I enjoy your content... you have a nice setup. I saw on your other video your Horseshoe did a nice job & was from KY....I live in KY & would be interested in his name & # so I can contact him. Thanks. Also Sir thank you for your service !!!

What to you do with the hydraulic controls in the tractor that control your valves in the back of the tractor the post driver is connected to ? Tie it open?

Has a vet checked that cough?
Yes vet is aware of cough but due to age they are wanting to wait for any vaccines or antibiotics until 6 months of age. Until then we are monitoring and are hoping it clears up on its own, being kept away from the other horses it is much better than a when I picked them up. Thx
Good progress. Baby steps. Next week work on picking up feet.
great video...north polk county FL...safe but 90 % pasture under water...
Thank you Scott, glad your safe and hopefully water subsides soon. Your welcome here if need be! Dave
The live stock we eat hopefully government regulation. Unfortunately the horses for slater are sick and some have cancer. You are eating this.
The livestock we eat is definetely highly governed by USDA inspectors. I agree lots of slaughter horses are sick and I have no idea what Mexico and Canada do about that. I know I will never eat it. Thx for watching
💙🤩😍🩵♥️🥰👍🙏
They are looking and doing great 👍, also you are 100 percent correct about helping one or another.
Thank you Paul! Dave
Enjoyed your video , lm ex military too , l know in France , Belgium , Italy , Spain , Japan enjoy eating horse meat , treat like beef , pork , Italy import live horses from south America weekly , they are imported alive via boat , in europe horses travel 3 / 4 day via truck from eastern block countries , Poland , Bulgaria to France weekly for slaughter !
Thank you Will I appreciate it. Yes they grew up eating it is so completely natural to them. So foreign to us. Thx for watching! Dave
Either its dry feed or Titus has a cough ..Try damping the feed down . Stress of moving can give foals all sorts of minor problems but they seem to be doing wel😊
@@pixie706 he definitely picked up a cough in the whole transition process. They both have actually but it’s getting better, vet doesn’t want to give any vaccines or antibiotics until 6 mth old which is a month away. It is being monitored until then. Thx for watching!

The Amish community has kept that community aspect of loving each other as family and taking care of each other. We sit and watch our Amish friends and see a glimpse of how the world use to be. I will say tho here in Missouri at least people wave at every single person they drive bye. That was not a thing in Washington. Disaster could strike any one of us at any time. And being alone during that is not good.
Well said, I am at such peace after my trips to Amish land in Ohio. I have done several videos on it and it is so refreshing every time I go! Thx
Tail docking means they can’t switch away flies. Thank you for the update. I’m enjoying this with a nice cup of tea. 💕
Yes, very cruel thing to do :(
Exactly right, not a big fan at all but I may be able to braid a tail on them to help with flies next season. I'll drink an Earl Grey with a spot of cream please! Dave

I love all percherons, they are so well behaved and gentle. I do notice though that their feet are starting to crack up , so they are ready for a trim. Will you be videoing the farrier visit soon?
Farrier comes every 7 weeks, he will be here soon. I have done several videos on trims but will definetely do another next time as the girls will get shod on front and the boys will get their first trim!
@@bdradley1 Thankyou I look forward to that next video. I drove Percheron cross horses. 16.3hh and 17.2hh commercially seven days a week and so we needed a farrier every 5 weeks. When we packed the business in a farrier charged £50 per horse for new shoes, so I dread to guess what they charge now.
@@HelenW-w3t Folks are always wanting me to do pay jobs but then it becomes work and I really just enjoy pleasure driving when I want. I’m retired twice and on disability from the Veterans Administration so I can drive when I want, not because I have to. It’s super expensive to shod a draft nowadays, about $300 !!!!!!!!
Call me ignorant, but I don’t know of any society that requires tail docking. Mostly societies require tails plaited for showing. Tail docking is preemptive for when they’re older and then no tails get caught in gates, doors or in swiggle/swindle trees or chains etcetera. That’s how it works in Australia anyhow, and tail docking is also now outlawed in Australia. Love the new colts, as a newbie also to droughts (Clydesdales for us) I like watching someone else new to droughts and and who has a few trails and errors. Stay safe in the storms.
Thank you
Those two sure are going to be big boys. Just to think they are already so tall at only 5 months old... I'd even add that both natural disasters and any kind of traumatic incident brings people together. 911 is a good example of that. The nation was actually united for a while after that ordeal. There's a lot of thick smoke around here from surrounding wildfires. But, it sure is nothing compared to what everyone in the hurricane path is and will be dealing with. Glad you were safe through Helene. I guess the nation will see in the morning the damage Milton does. Take care.

Those colts are so handsome! I can already tell they’re going to be magnificent all grown up! ❤
Great comments, you are a real American, thank you.
Buckle down, buddy. Always welcome here in Ohio if you need to escape round two. My perspective, Max is left brain sensitive; might consider switching the boys in the stand stalls so max can have left eye open to the pasture area. It might help develop both sides of brain. Just an observation he stands with his left side towards the barn. wall.
