Happy Halloween, Mark! This is an excellent tutorial as the skull allows a lot of room for experimentation with texture, as you’ve stated. I hope this encourages others to give it a try. My first photorealistic airbrush painting was a skull and I learned quite a lot doing it. Keep up the great work with the videos.

Underpainting is awesome. It's been used for hundreds and hundreds of years (in oils & tempera) so it's tried and true. If it works for you, go for it!

it's canvas, not paper
