  • Today's airbrush painting lesson is a simple one on painting a nose. I think learning how to paint a nose correctly is very important because they are part of every portrait you'll paint. And it's easier than you might think! I'm painting using createx illustration colors with an iwata custom micron takumi on synthetic paper with 2 coats of gesso. Hopefully this video is helpful and useful for those of you learning portraiture. Thanks for watching!

I love watching you I just watch your old airbrushing videos over and over and over again. I have ordered so so much stuff Dru Blair materials. Do you think that it is OK to order the Dru Blair Eyes stencils kit. I was thinking that it would be nice. To have something in my arsenal like that. Thank you brother Mark for being so nice!!!🎣🎣🎣

      Thanks Michael! I think Dru Blair makes some of the best shields out there. His french curves are my favorite. I'm sure the eye kit is good too and I agree, probably good to have in the setup. you can never have too many shields or templates. I'll usually always find a place to use one.

      Thanks Dusty. No prep at all. Just apply the gesso with a brush or roller, use a taping knife to remove it, and let it dry. I do this 2x then sand the next day.

I am using an A5 sketchbook (with charcoal pencils) at the moment but would it be easier to use a larger size, or is smaller better?

    Hi there Mark, i'm catching up on your videos as we speak. Love your tutorials btw, and while listening I heard you mention u used Gesso on Yupo paper? I've been doing a portrait on Yupo paper but had to try 3 times over again since it's a pain to erase on it. Now I hear you say you can apply Gesso to the paper? How does this work? It applied the same way as in your previous video about applying Gesso to a canvas? And since the paper is a smooth surface, does it stick to it? Greets Dieter

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop  Год назад +1

      Awesome, thank you Dieter! Well I find that yupo paper erases too easily, like the paint scratches away rather than a controlled erase that you get on gesso. So I'll add 2 coats of gesso (same techniques as canvas with a taping knife) and then lightly wet sand it in a day or so when it's dry. I love it as a surface- smoother than canvas & easy to set up. You can soft erase into it as well so you can control how much paint you remove. Hope this helps!

      Well I went to the art supply shop and bought me some Gesso. Since they didn't have Liquitex, I bought Galeria from Winsor & Newton. I'll give it a go. Thank you for your videos!

    Hey brother Mark I truly hope that you had a beautiful Christmas and a very nice New Year’s brother. Okay I mixed up 10 drops Burnt Umber, 1-3 drops of Cobalt Blue. Brother it didn’t come nowhere near the the color that’s you are using for nose flesh tone it was Blue. Drew Blair gave me 15 parts, burnt umber, 10 parts, red violet, two parts sepia. It was supposed to be a Caucasian lady. Flesh tone It was purple what is going on.

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop  Год назад

      a bunch of things can give you a different color. first of all make sure you fully mix each bottle. Now every flesh tone, no matter the race, is always going to be a de saturated orange color. So burnt umber is a orange/brown, but still too saturated. A drop of blue will ( since it is the complementary color to orange) will help desaturate it further. Play around with those 2 colors (cobalt blue and burnt umber). If it came out too blue, try 20 drops of burnt umber and 1 drop of blue. Sometimes bottles are mixed slightly differently giving you a different mixture, but the concept is the same. You will get it down in no time!

    • @michaelthompson1185
      @michaelthompson1185 Год назад

      Okay brother I see the
      Caucasian tone, flash of the nose now It’s dark when you spread it with your finger. But when you spray it very lightly through the airbrush gun. It’s almost a pinkish color I see now you gotta spray it lightly. For like colors and a little more for darker colors. Okay Okay I’m learning thanks brother Mark!!!🎣🎣🎣 The fish symbol I do a lot of Dam fishing down here in Montgomery Alabama brother. Everyone knows me as the fisherman Mike Mike my nickname. Now you know a little bit about me take care brother Mark

      @@michaelthompson1185 exactly! It'll be very dark if you pour it out, but the color looks correct when you lightly spray it. That is awesome Mike! What type of fish do you catch?

With Strippers and Hybrid Bass brother I know I probably. Don’t need it but I purchased an illustration, Orange. I know I can mix Orange and Red I just want a true Orange. Dru Blair mix came out Red Violet so all I had to do was mix it complementary color, quite a few drops of yellow then 1-2 drops of cobalt Blue for the eye kit in a box and there you go. Those PlayStation 4 game characters for Far Cry 6 will probably be an orange and a cobalt. Haven’t mixed it let but, they are pretty Orangish, light brown. More 3-D but I truly love the coloration that they produce. I just want to have fun in between learning realism Portraits airbrushing!!!🎣🎣🎣❤️❤️❤️

      Thank you so much, Carl. Funny that you should mention a pet portrait, because one of the next lessons/tutorials (in a few weeks) is going to be a wolf painting. It'll be all about painting hair, fur, and fly away hairs. It's not a pet portrait, but it's pretty close! As for gesso, paper, and canvases, have you watched my video called "make your canvas smoother than paper"? I basically go over everything in that one. I also have another on making your own airbrush paper. Check those out! Thanks again and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
