Thank you for pointing out the difference with older models of the carbine with regard to removal of the gas tube.

If you rotate the gas tube release more you can release the piston extension and spring. That is a step that needs to be done in order to clean and lube that part as well. The piston extension is what strikes the bolt face causing the bolt to move backwards initiating the extraction process.

You are correct. That is part of the complete disassembly which goes a bit further than the field strip.

@@HistoryinFirearms I can't believe how bad mine was when it came out after I bought my SKS(Full of cosmoline even though the rest of the gun was clean as a whistle). But when I field strip mine I also take out the fire control group since I have to clean and lube that part after so many rounds basically it's part of my after range cleaning. And Piston gas tube and piston extension get a cleaning as well.

@@michaelbenjmitchell1 If it had been packed in cosmoline I could definitely see that being full of it. Always a good idea to do a detailed disassembly and cleaning after getting a new firearm (that is part of the reason I started this channel) and it is a good idea after a range trip and will prolong the life/reduce wear on your firearms.
