I am amazed at how easily apricot seeds grow and quickly too. Mine were 3 inches at the beginning of spring and now are 1-2 ft.
Thanks for info. My tree has grown to more than 1 foot in less than 2 months in winter.
Excellent and it has worked for me. I have just planted the 5 seeds (all that I had stratified) that germinated, this morning. Thanks for all the good info with no BS.
I am glad to know that you getminated so many seeds. Good luck.
It worked!!!! My first EVER smth that didn't die!! Thank you sooo much!! Very clear instructions!!!
I am glad. Thanks.
I live in Wales UK, and I haven’t seen fresh apricots for years, only the dried ones, until just the other day someone gave me 2, so I am hoping I can grow them here, our weather is mostly rain, but not too cold in winter. Thanks for your knowledge.
Good luck from Australia.
I reapeated this just now.
let us wait👍
Good luck.
I just started this process today and at the moment I’m just waiting for my seeds to sprout. I just barely got into this gardening stuff with my mom and I’m a bit excited so I’m just gonna start checking up on it every once in a while
Good luck.
Any updates?
I can’t wait to watch more of your videos!

You're the best! Great video. Thank you for making that so simple to follow.

Thanks for your views. Good luck.
I watched this video 3 weeks ago and started this process, for about two weeks and few days i wasn't patient enough to wait for a month so i just started planting the seeds that already sprouted with 2 weeks😂 in 5 seeds i got two sprouted ones, just now i planted them and i hope i get a good result
That is great. Good luck.
@@GardenTricks Thanks, to you and your video

Good video . I grew one seedling too . But without stratification .
Thanks for info. If the fruits come from cols storage in market, then the seed may germinate without any preparation.
Thanks for your sharing.

I live in Florida 🌴☀️ so I just put any of my seeds into a plastic container with holes 🕳 in lid.
Within a week-2 sprouts begin. I wait to get a good sprout on seeds before planting.
Thank you 👍🪴
You can transplant the seedlings when they produce st least 2 sets of leaves. Good luck.
mine just sprouted in the fridge :D :D I'm planting them in soil today
Good luck.

I didn't used the fridge metode i just placed them in a dark place same in papper and a plastic bag now i have 8 seeds that have successfully started making roots and sprouts. They grow really quickly but i don't know if the roots are growing as fast not wanna feed them yet to not burn the small roots will see if they are like 15 cm above soil lv will use diluted mineral fertiliser. great video Thanks
Thanks for info. It is possible that the seeds may germinate without stratification if the fruits have come from cold storage. I will not fertilize them for 2,3 months except some very week liquid fertilizer.
It worker!! I have a seed! Time to let it sprout!
Good luck.
Fablous

Great video! Thanks! Does this have to be done in the spring? I can't wait to try it ! :-)
Yes. You can start in late winter indoors

I have seedlings about the same size as yours at the end of the video, but my leaves have started getting rust coloured speckles. do you have any tips on diseases or fertilisers I should be using to remedy this?
This may be a fungus problem. Remove the infected leaves and spray copper fungicide.
@@creeksidecabin4887 Yes. Thanks for info.
Hello,
How large should the sprouts be before planting in soil? I have one that is 1cm long and one that is only 4mm long so far.
Should I plant the longer one and wait for the shorter one to grow, or give them both more time in the fridge?
Thank you
You can plant both the sprouts in soil. The longer one will grow seedling first and then the second one. Keep the seedlings on bright shade for 4-5 weeks then in morning sun for another 4 weeks. Good luck.
@@GardenTricks thank you for your response!
@@OrangeBarnacle You are welcome.
Do apricots have no problem producing fruits from its seed like pears or apples?
Seed grown Apricots should produce fruits in 3,4 years.
do you put your newly planted sprouted seeds in full sun or shade or where?
In shade at a warm place.
I might as well ask you as I feel the seed supplier is wrong I ordered a bunch of fruit tree seeds and they recommended to wait to stratify .y fruit seeds next February and plant them months later mine are cold hardy can't i plant them this summer after stratifying them in the fridge?
I think, you can stratification right now. The seeds may sprout in fridge. You may plant the seeds after stratification.

Thanks.
After growing the apricot tree from seed, do I have to graft the tree to have the fruit?
No. The tree should bear fruit in 4, 5 years.
Which weather is suitable for apricot plant to grow well
Apricots needs consistently cold winters. Plant when the tree is dormant, in winter.
Thank you. Can I use play sand?
Yes, you can.
@@GardenTricks thank you
I am doing same here in India. My Apricot seeds are germinated now and ready to plant in a pot. Thanks for sharing. I have a query that is "how much time an apricot plant takes to start giving fruits?"
3 to 5 years.

Do I need to dry the seeds out before I do this process like pumpkin seeds? Or should they be fine?
No need to dry.
should I change the paper towel every week?
It depends, change it if it becomes black, develops fungus.
Do we have to spray water after keep the seed in fridge daily
No. Because the papar is sealed in the bag so water spray will not be needed even in a month.
how many times do you water it when it is still growing and its plant state
Every second day, keep in shade.

Can the seed be planted directly into the soil?
Yes, you can. But sprouting the seed before planting ensures success.
Use a vise.....easily and slowly cracks the pit without hurting the seed
Thanks for info.
Can I grow it in the summer?
Yes if you get fresh apricot fruits. Seeds from dry fruits may not germinate.
@@GardenTricks where can I get fresh apricots?
@@mckenna9340 From market!
Is there a reason you put them in the fridge? Will it work without using a fridge?
Probably not unless the fruit has come from cold storage. The process of putting certain seeds in fridge is known as stratification process, the seeds need to undergo in cold climate for more than 500 hours to break its dormancy period.
@@GardenTricks alright. So I picked the apricots from my tree and used those seeds. I will need to put them in the fridge?
@@lolbored801 Yes, wrap them in a paper, damp the paper and seal in a polythene bag and place in the fridge, NOT FREEZER. They will germinate in 1, 2 months.
@@GardenTricks awesome! Thanks!
Good to put in freezer?
I doubt, the temperature will be too low.

Tnx for fast reply! Will do as u guided, love the idea of growing apricot
@@Lennakanci999 You are welcome.
Its all good until the end because there is no way the seedling grows that much with so many leaves in 10 days.
Actually, the seedling appeared in 10 days.
In science we had beans were were experimenting and they appeared on day 5 like the sprout so I don’t think it’s very hard to believe but I used to think the same way as u!
I dig your music. Who is it?

Two days and counting. I stuck it in a bowl of water and it sank like a rock to stay there for the entire 20 mins. In a damp paper towel it went to be stuck in a bowl with a lid on the top shelf of my refrigerator. I hope it sprouts only I have no idea what variety the thing was as I had it a couple of months drying in the fruit (made it so much easier to crack open).
Good luck.
@@GardenTricks My refrigerator went out last week for two days while it was in stratification and I just now notice a root is just barely peeking out. It is still in the refrigerator that was fixed so has been back in stratification. Only thing is my white spot that looks like it is a root is on the opposite side from where yours sprouted so on the flat side not the pointed side.
@@generalawareness101 it is okay. It may be mold or sprout. Continue in the fridge. The dprout should groe long.
@@GardenTricks Not mold it has the exact same shape, and colour yours had. I am excited though I only have the one and it needs a mate to bear fruit. :(
@@generalawareness101 That is good. You do not need two plants to bear fruit as it us self pollinating.
Can we do it without putting the seeds in the fridge?
Stratification by putting the seeds in cold environment is necessary for apricot seeds to sprout. If the fruit in the shop has come from cold storage, then the seeds may sprout without putting in fridge.
Is it true that apricot tree will not fruit until it is grafted ?
No, apricot tree grown from seed can bear fruits in 4-6 years without grafting.
How long till we have fruit?
From 4 to 6 years.
It germinate...but when i plant it fail. I don't know what is the problem it is the soil or the temperature it high
Sorry to know that. May be high temperature. You should have kept the soil moist.
@@GardenTricks so do i put the planting back to refrigerator or just cover the seed? Any idea. I have just one other seed .or i will wait for next one to germinated
@@jlassijlali290 Wait for next one to germinate quite big. Then plant that in a free draining soil. First wet the soil and then plant and keep the pot in shade. Lightly water daily. The one you already potted, ensure that the soil is sandy and place it in shade. Keep that moist and wait if it grows. It may take 2,3 weeks.
few week later .. for the people has same problem. I live in hot country and it is summer!. so i plant it in night when it is cold and it better wait for the seed to open to plant it! .... I did few try and one succeed but fail because the day was so hot and didn't put it inside. i am in my 4 try and the seed take sweet time to grow...
@@jlassijlali290 Thanks for info. May be better if place indoors on bathroom.
Its ok if after 2 weeks nothing happend?
It may take up to 8 weeks, depends on temperature.
Instantly sunk?????
Thank is okay.
The video may he ok, but that noise...
This vid should show all this within two minutes,… max, no more.
This is the minimum time needed to show the necessary steps.
@@GardenTricks No it is not. And besides, for an alternative method (the traditional fundamental method) you can simply wait till winter, put the whole seeds (shell included, no cracking) in a pot or in the ground, with moisture, then the seeds germinate in winter-spring. What you're showing is a drawn out production, very unnecessarily.
@@bonsummers2657 why are you so rude? If they want to do it this way then so what that's there method maybe they don't want to wait till winter, maybe this is what works for them. It makes no difference if the video is 2 or almost 5 they explained there way so respect that and do it your way instead. If you already know what to do then why bother coming on a video on how to grow them.
@@bellaswan1459 That's not rude. That's constructive critique, with brevity. You're an example of the problems in the world.
@@GardenTricks Does your technique work to have the Apricot seeds germinate the same spring/summer the fruit ripened in?
