I really love how Noelle handled him, forgetting her birthday. I'd beat myself up over forgetting something so trivial to remind myself, especially if someone was showing as much kindness to me as she did.
Yet she brought a smile to his face in the very next sentence. She really understands that in a fog of depression, someone's birthday is gonna be hard to remember when there's already shit on your mind.

Bittersweet ending, for as dark as everything was.
Noelle and her mom are absolutely amazing.
Thanks for playing this, nomkin. This story did hit different, but I think it handled things well enough.
    Heart breaks for Phil, though...
Can only speculate if he truly will recover.

This situation is so scary because it's so relatable. I appreciate you sharing your story about your anxiety. I found myself in a similar situation for several months where the thought of another human being seeing me was overwhelming, but I luckily had a bathroom in my room and roommates willing to help me out 😭 it was a living nightmare. Brains are so scary

This was a serious subject in this game that tells a horror story on mental health.
It made sense of what was really going on with Phil where some parts of the game were pointing out the plot of why he was locked in his bedroom.

    That was amazing!
I loved the connection between the figures we saw and what really happened. The crack in the ceiling and the shattered mirror were great nods, but the "third eye" the monsters had actually being the bullet wound is fucking brutal. And Piper's having her mouth hanging open.. like fuck. And when you reevaluate all his hallucinations it really comes into focus. The gunshots and the gun wielding specter in Brian's house for one.. but even the blackout where he heard his father calling to his mother about it being what happened that fatal night, or when he heard Piper and his parents fighting or about her running away, it was probably actually memories more than hallucinations. Though I wonder if his conversation with Piper when she calls him just as bad as their parents but then apologizes later with a note was a memory or a figment of his imagination trying to comfort him and hope his sister did love him even though she left him. It's all just so brutal but beautifully detailed and thought out.
I wonder though. We see the new pastor, Father Adams, arguing with this Mrs. Potters and then when we pan back there's a small blood trail leading back into the church. We saw those crow eating something bloody and as Noelle we saw a bloody hump buried in snow. The pastor is also the only person Phil apparently saw during his isolation, when he supposedly visited and spoke with his mother. Now we know that didn't happen but I wonder if there was a reason for him being the only one to supposedly visit, especially bc we were deliberately given a scene where he told Noelle he would visit the Larners, it wasn't a hallucination of Phil's, it was apparently a conversation they really had, and then we saw him come from Phil's perspective so I just wonder.. with all the careful planning this story had, to have a cheap red herring like that for no other reason than to throw us off feels not like these writers. I wanna believe maybe there's something more there but who knows.
And also I do kinda question the timeline. A month is a LONG time for a small town to not hear from or see any of the Larners. I understand no one leaving their house during the especially bad cold wave we see in the game but that's only a few days, are we expected to believe the town was so badly snowed in for an entire month no one wondered where Jacob or Rose were??? Idk I find that kinda weird but I also don't live in a place that snows or is a super close knit small town so idk. But maybe the month timeline is a red herring as well and it wasn't that long who knows.
Either way I really loved this, I loved the Nanny storyline and how it had supernatural elements but it still had an overtone of realistic horror and true antagonists that weren't monsters and kinds spun the trope on its head it was so good. But this was a really amazing psychological horror that captures mental illness very well. I have isolated myself in my house for almost a year before when I was horribly s*icidal so I relate really hard to this game and I know what it's like to be doing so bad and specifically cutting people off and shit and you really do convince yourself of insane shit. But Noelle and her mom were such amazing characters Phil truly lucky to have people like them. I wish the game hadn't made Phil lowkey one of those guys that can't seem to just stay friends with his girl friends but other than that it wasn't too bad
Also what's their age gap bc hes 23 but she just "came of age"? Like do they mean 21 or 18... idk that kinda weirded me out I thought we'd get a reveal that Phil was a creeper making friends with teens but it seems not so idk what that was about. Still tho really realistic and well done and awesome symbolism, I can't wait for more from these devs!

Also I will say as someone who knows what it's like to isolate themselves and also be very socially anxious and not enjoy phone calls, in hs I would text my internet friends while we watched stuff simultaneously. They're still my best friends and into adulthood we've gotten less shy about actually doing phone calls, but what Noelle and Phil are doing is actually a thing idk how common but I definitely have done it before and it's fun lmao

Comment for the realistic handling of f*cked up sh*t that happens in life. Engagement is difficult, but we need to see that everything isn't a sitcom happy lifestyle that so many thing it is. Things aren't what they "should" be. Thanks, RUclipsr, for playing this. And for putting your perspective and experience in. We, as a collective, need to understand the reality that created this story, and your additions just make it that much more rich and needed. For my usual wit and zaniness, see other videos and the comments therein.

I think that this game did an amazing job of visualizing of PTSD can physically manifest and control someone's life. And it makes the victims of it still very human, with positives and flaws of their own. This has probably been the most hard hitting, even if there wasn't much involvement gameplay-wise. Loved it and I can't wait for the next installment for this series!

Noelle talks to him outside and the church, and he says he'll stop by and check in on Phil. And he does show up in the house with the bedroom door barred, so you know it's present time and not a flashback. He had to have walked through that dining room, and the game has him talking directly with the mom.
So... I guess, what's up with that? Was that a dream/hallucination? If so, it's quite a coincidence that the Priest makes this offer in real life to check in on him, doesn't, but Phil (not being able to hear the conversation) has a dream/hallucinationthat he did. My one peeve about this storyline, I guess.

Wow, that was a really hard-hitting and good plot twist. Not often does a horror make that sort of impact, cause they tend to be very focused on the jumpscares or gore. The plot often ends up being cult-related, a inhuman psycho, or downright crytic. So kudos big time!!!

Well, damn. I didn't think I'd see a game handle these kinds of issues with this kind of seriousness. Like, I had very serious anxiety as a teen which made me shut myself away. I was just terrified of being around people because I felt like I'd pass out and cause a scene like all the time, and I developed a pretty serious insect phobia (in retrospect, probably a way for me to try to justify it to myself - can't go out because bugs). I have years of my life I just do not remember. Luckily, I did get the help I need and I'm not experiencing these issues anymore, but my teenage years are just a mostly blank spot in my head, which isn't great. That said, thank you for playing this and for being so open with your experiences. Apppreciate ya, Minx!

I do wish the game had a bit more gameplay like the others in the series, but other besides that little complaint I do strongly agree this was really good. And think the fact this is like the 5th game in the series actually really benefit it, cause the last games give you this expectation that you know what might be what's happening and instead they give you this curve ball. Yeah, shame it was lacked much in gameplay, but really made up for it in the story aspect.

    • @DarkOsprey28
      @DarkOsprey28 7 месяцев назад +8

I believe we only got to see some of the mental abuse the Piper and Phil suffered. Their father was incredible domineering because of his own failures with the family business and the mother was almost as bad because she seemingly just overlooked how he treated the kids. And if Piper also had an undiagnosed mental illness, being pushed too hard likely made her desperate and she felt like what she did was her only option; especially after running away didn’t work.

I'd accept that but things "happening off screen" for me isn't good writing but some may like that the sister possibly? had a disorder or the father was possibly? worse the only thing I could think of that would've driven her to such an extent is like you said the mother being purposefully complacent knowing that maybe her daughter is being physically and sexually abused by the father. @@DarkOsprey28

Im guessing long term abuse, its implied through several lines of dialogue

I like the other games in the series more 🤷🏾‍♀️ i wasn't feeling this one. It take too long for it to get good. I didn't like it at all. Spoilers ⬇️.....
Piper deleted everyone but her brother. Phil's mimd is completely broken because of that event. This game could've been a lot shorter if they was going to go with this ending. it was a let down for me. I wished it was something supernatural or manic.

@@KrinxTV I was spicy that night 🍷 but I know you loved it. And there's nothing wrong with that. I just like the supernatural ones more. I'm just not much of a thriller dude

This game was hard to watch and I'll admit, I almost shut it off.
Not because of the themes, but because... I'll be honest, that puzzle at the beginning with the bottles, and the later revelation of how he handles his other bathroom needs.
Tip for any writers or budding game creators who might be reading this comments: I don't care what kind of atmosphere you're going for, you never ever need to include that kind of detail in a work of fiction. Don't even bother telling me about realism or verisimilitude or whatever--fact is, stories much like this have been just as effective while still being something you can watch while eating.
In a lesser story, those parts would've made this an instant zero for me. It's fortunate it was strong enough to keep me interested despite it.

This is a beautifully dark way to show how trauma affects people. Blew away my expectations
