I totally agree with you. It's about more than learning how to sing. I have a vocal coach for about 10 years but even today I still learn new things at every lesson. This is one of the benefits of face-to-face communication.

No, for 2 reasons. One is I can't justify the cost of professional tutelage unless I was using it as an in to a career using it. Not happening at my age, I try to improve for personal satisfaction, and yes a lot of than is mimicking the artists that appeal to me.
Secondly it is simply embarrassing to have someone witness me failing to hit notes, etc. it's bad enough when I hear it.
Thinking about it there is a third reason too; I have interests in developing many skills and consequently spend insufficient time on any one; in fact having too much choice does, to a certain extent, freeze my activity in any particular one. Such is life. I'm pleased to get hints from RUclips though.

I don't know about vocal couches, 1v1 meeting of any kind always are too pricey for me, I usually learn in groups or alone.
But let me tell you this, and it's right for any field, even when you go to your health provider.
If the teacher/practitioner isn't proffesional enough you can waste your time and effort on nothing, and sometimes it can cause damage, if not physical than mental from the frustration and self blame.
If your couch is not adaptable to your unique character and your unique still of learning, he can make your feel uncomfortable, dumb, worthless, even lead you to self blame and guilt for not keeping up with his methods and way of teaching
Sometimes when studying art from an artist can make you copy his style while loosing your own identity and authenticity along the way, making you a rigid thinker and not creative as you could be. And then it is very hard to find your true self back again.
Instructors are not only goodness and smelling roses, using them have it's down side too.
My advice for people who using someones service, always be sceptical, always check again his assumption, don't loose yourself on the way just because he is "the master". You are the boss of yourself.
