Dave and I were friends over twenty years ago, right after he won the Xeric Grant. But he never sent me one damn drawing (not that I expected him too). He did, however, send me a copy of Slow Jams, the even rarer Son of Slow Jams, and the rarest of all G.I. Choe zine bound by a rubber band, and which I doubt even he still has a copy of. He also connected me to the editor of a porn mag who rejected Dave's art but accepted some stories from me. Then of course he became super famous and I never heard from him again. Who can blame him. I'd rather hang out with David Chang and Frank Quitely too.
Dude Dave should build a comic art fortress museum. Like something nearly indestructible with everything behind bulletproof glass and just make all entry fees go to an on site free art school. That'd be some sort of paradise

Like Choe said of not liking an artist at first, when I first saw SImon Hanselmanns art I didn't like it, I thought it was kinda basic but when you really look at it it's really beautiful. Inspiring stuff.
