Thank you for this tour. We recently got routed by an indirect route through town to our hotel. I just got the sense that the city was sorta sad, lacked cohesiveness or something. Your drive through the area confirmed this. I noted some neat buildings with architectural interest. But, didn't feel much energy or life in the town. The large murals were beautiful. Unfortunately, we only overnighted so maybe we missed things.

About a dozen or so years ago, I was in St. Joseph a couple of times for symposiums at the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center and had the opportunity to drive around and get some great photography of unique architecture and some surprisingly well-preserved (but many long-unused) buildings. A few things to see that weren't far off your path:
0:55 The Pony Express Museum is on your left. St. Joseph was the start point and that was the actual stable.
10:35 On the left ahead of you is an 1800s warehouse with ornate cast-iron escapes and external firefighting pipes.
12:05 An immediate 135° right and one block south is a museum and across the street an 1800s tin shop with a neat roof facade advertising the shop's skill (1105 N 3rd St; apparently now restored, but quite battered in my pics).
17:50 You cross over Corby Parkway.
    22:42 A rail-to-trail.
My favorite thing that you happened to not pass by is the old CD Smith Drug Company at South 3rd and Sylvanie St -- it has some neato gargoyles facing the intersection.

Don't know if tearing down I-229 will help save St. Joseph's downtown or not, but that's their call. Like a lot of downtowns, it's in trouble, and the economy hasn't been all that great there. An historic city, and always considered the alternative to Kansas City.

I've checked the numbers on the city and they look pretty good. Poverty rate 11% which is lower than the national average

This is pathetic representation. Several times you were within a block or two of some fabulously ornate turn of the century mansions. They're all over the areas you were in, yet somehow you missed every one. Literally, you were a block away from the incredible mansions in the Museum Hill Historic District. Later some of the most extravagant homes of the early 1900's were just out of view on your right at 6th & Hall Streets. So sad. And, no tour of St Joe should exclude the beautiful Parkway system that weaves throughout the city. You passed by, over, and around it. Please take 5 minutes and do some research before you ever do something like this again.

Yes, Missouri is horrible. Don't migrate here. You will be unhappy.
