i enjoyed the movie. i had initially seen the documentary which was very well done indeed. Learned lots. The movie was well done as well, the soundtrack by Ms. Yeo was atmospheric and blended to the mood of the moments so well. truly enjoyed it.
Hi Martin, I hope you're well. I am working on a research project on the Battle of Long Tan and wanted to ask if there's any possible way I might be able to obtain the unedited radio transmissions that were used in your documentary. It would mean a lot as I try to learn and research as much as I can about the battle, thank you! -Alec
Hi Alec, the radio transmissions in my documentary are a dramatisation. No recording exists of the radio transmissions of the battle. I reconstructed the radio transmissions from 6RAR Battalion logs, 1ATF HQ logs, Artillery logs, as well as interviews with veterans. I then wrote them for the script for my documentary having to balance realism - real radio procedures, with what people would understand, as well as time limits. Real radio procedures would be more complex and drawn out and would have been at least 3-4 times longer than we could realistically include. I created www.battleoflongtan.com as a primary start for all things to do with the battle and you can find some commander's diaries and other details there, including a minute by minute reconstruction of the battle timeline which took me a few years to research and complete. Good luck with your project.
