For those interested in a 75% version with an F-row, NuPhy just opened up the orders for the Halo75: nuphy.com/collections/keyboards/products/halo75?sca_ref=1371668.WxZWP3zbS6 (affiliate) If you get one, don't forget to use the code "cheese" to get 10% off 😉
I just purchased my first custom (kinda...) and I'm definitely not in dire need of another keeb video. Yet here I am watching 20 minute review of a keyboard in format that I wouldn't ever consider buying. Your videos are just so fun and good looking I can't help myself but to check them out immediately.
I’m a 96% guy myself. I have some adequate Logitech keyboards of that size and I just got into mechanical keyboards, so I bought a Keychron K4 Pro and preordered a NuPhy Air96
I bought their Air75 way back when with the intent to keep it in my backpack for office days, but I ended up liking it so much that I used it at home as well. I eventually got an Air60 to keep in my backpack so the Air75 can stay at home, to reduce the amount of keyboard juggling going on. I'm still happy with my Air75 (though the battery is kind of bad and needs to be recharged twice a week now after one year of using it), but if this keyboard ends up breaking down and they have a Halo75 out, then I'm definitely looking into it. (...or if I just get bored one day.)
My preference is for a quieter, low-pitched sound - I was leaning toward pre-ordering the Halo75 with Night Breeze switches, as well as an extra set of Gateron Yellow Pro 2.0 - but seeing your asterisk at around 12:20, it sounds like you would advise against the Gateron Pro 2.0 for the Halo?
11:35 I think they do the whole keycap set double shot in the injection mould, they cant fill one keycap more plastic than the other that's why the space bar is double shot as well. and the yellow space bar is just an off the shelf keycap from the manufacturer probably for cost cutting. also there is shine through keycaps for the air75 on pre-order right now
Nice video. You convinced me to get the air 75, but after 3 months I sold it. It sounded too plastic, and the low profile Keycaps wasn’t that good to touch type. Good improvement with normal profile switches, will increase the customizations. I think the NuPhy has a unique space bar sound profile, which is also nice.
Love the video - content, production, etc. I don’t love what sounds like slight time compression of your voice. Maybe you actually talk that fast normally but it sounds slightly accelerated. A strange contrast to your otherwise thoughtful, paced tone.
Yeah I noticed that way too late too, I did try to talk "faster" in this video (it was not digitally sped up, even if it sounds almost artificial) but I completely overcorrected with my attempt. But thanks for the kind words 🙂 not gonna continue this experiment with faster talking 😅
prebuilts were always good....u lot have got a really high nose after getting to build some boards for yourself, and then demanding the companies bow down to your demands
Nice video! Debating on the Halo65 vs GMMK Pro. Love the sound from the GMMK Pro with Gateron Ink V2 Black, that low pitched keystroke is what I’m looking for. Any thoughts if the Halo 65 can achieve the same, or the Halo 65 sounds higher pitch and more plastic? Both looks great to me, where the Halo 65 got the LED surrounding the whole frame. 75% vs 65% doesn’t matter to me. Thanks.
Great Video once again. I've got the Black one and today I changed the switches to Outemo Silent Lemon and did the The Tape Mod. Guess I will remove the tape, because now it's almost too silent 🤦🏻♂ and reminds me too much of a membran - out of the material that should not be named - Keyboard 😅
I wish manufacturers wouldn't always ignore ISO users. Sure, ANSI is a great layout, but especially we Europeans would be happy about an ISO variant. Would be a direct purchase for me.
Im german so I kinda need äöü and stuff quite a lot. However I still bought it and now just use the American International layout in windows, which allows me to write these by clicking ctrl+" and then the needed letter. I gotta say having the letters as separate keys is much less of a hassle, but having such a nice keyboard and being able to finally change to really good looking keycaps was the point that convinced me to buy it. Also as someone who is programming a lot, this layout helps tremendously. the only thing that stresses me out still is the swap of y and z
For those unaware, i would suggest to switch out the keycaps IMMEDIATELY as the white keys with black legends use really fragile and soft PBT. To the point that they shine in less than a month with consistent use.
@CheeseTurbulence Is the wrist rest actually worth it (it adds like $8 on shipping on top of the price)? It looks very slim, like you're gaining very little by using it..
Hello, Can I setup modificators like ctrl+c to assign different actions? I've got homookb with simillar software and there is no way to work with shortcuts. I can only change settings of single key
I got the black one and swapped to the Monokei key caps. Love it. The shine-through key caps from Nuphy are worse than the included key caps unfortunately. Specially in Tab, Shift, Carl, Cmd, etc keys where the font is slightly smaller than in regular keys. In those, the defects were quite noticeable, specially in the top part of the font.
Also, no intention to troll here. But with such passion for keyboards, you’d learn to use your pinkies. 😅 I didn’t notice until this video how you actually type.
@@CheeseTurbulence im going to order the 75 but want to know which switches thock more than clack. Someone said get the baby kangaroo switches but I’d like your opinion after watching your video. I know switches sound different in different setups but do you know for the stock halo which switches are the thockiest ?
Watched your video on the Keychron, how do these 2 compare? I currently have the K2 V2 and thinking of either modding that or getting something that comes with mac keys.
How easy is to change between layers? Im using the anne pro 2 and I need to use 2 hands for pressing the function keys for debugging. It would be nice to be able to change from numbers to fn keys pressing some kind of shortcut for example.
Great review of a great keyboard. It seems like you sped up the video for about 5 to 15% to keep it a bit shorter, but I must say it sounds a bit unnatural, knowing the talking speed from the previous videos. Given the quality of your videos I think whoever watches them, takes their time to finish watching them, regardless how long they are.
Thanks for those words! It wasn’t actually sped up but I tried to speak faster than usual 🫣 couple days after publishing I finally noticed it too, hope it wasn’t too bad to listen to 🙈
I got my Halo65 two days ago, and I'm really loving it. But I have already replaced the switches and caps with some Gateron Oil Kings and an awesome English/Japanese dye sub PBT cap set I got recently. Though I did keep their amazing Ghost Bar on my space bar.
Just got my Nuphy Halo 65 yesterday and had trouble typing the !@#$%^&*()_+ symbols by holding shift and hitting the numbers. Nothing I tried worked. A painstaking hour later, I went to Nuphy's website and saw 'Firmware' at the very bottom. Then it clicked in my head, that its probably not updated. So I downloaded the latest version and viola! it worked. These keyboards do not come fully functional out of the box. An update is required. Though typing this comment felt quite satisfying I must say. !@#$^&*()_+ :D
some advice for the flickering RGB (i dont' know if you've googled this already but noticed it in a few videos so apologies!), you need to adjust your camera fps and/or shutter speed. Looks like your shutter speed/fps is set to a rate that isn't matching the frequency of the power driving the LEDs (in the US this would be 60Hz, elsewhere 50Hz) You're using the Sigma FP and uploading in 4k so I assume you're using the 4K 30fps (29.97 to be exact) mode?. if in the US and shooting at 30fps, your shutter speed should be set to multiples of 60, so 1/60, 1/120. If you're not in the US but shooting at 30fps You should switch to shooting at 24fps then your shutter speed should be set to multiples of 50, so 1/50, 1/100 etc. I Hope this helps, if not - don't hurt me I'm just a messenger! =D great video again, this mech looks cleannn
Hey, thank you so much for the advice! Don't worry, if the feedback is filled with this much effort, I wouldn't dare to shoot the messenger 😉 I actually know about these settings by now (I genuinely did not in my first videos 😅) but I am limited to what the Sigma fp is capable of. I shoot everything as you predicted at 4K 30fps (29.97), but slow down all the footage to 24fps to give it a more "cinematic" look. It cancels out my jittery handling of items and makes everything seem "smoother". So I "can't" shoot at 24fps, or I will lose my ability to slow it down and therefore my "smoothness", which I prefer over blinking. Although now that I am writing this I think I am wrong and you are right, I should try that one out. The RGB sections aren't that long and to have those look right is more important than the smoothness. Also, I've set the shutter speed to automatic and the Sigma does try to correct it by itself, but on the Halo65, the lightbar and the switch LEDs seem to blink at different intervals and I think the Sigma fp got really confused by this, although I am not a 100% certain.
I bought a NuPhy board a while back. My opinion is it was pretty bad. Most people can't admit that something they purchased is bad because well then they would have buyers remorse. I'm going to say i probably wouldn't recommend NuPhy boards to anyone at their price point especially with all the great boards coming out recently for a similar price. If you are watching this and on the fence about which board to get I would recommend looking elsewhere.
I saw that your channel is registered in Switzerland and wondered what you think about the change from ISO-DE to ANSI. Since it is so hard to find nice boards in ISO-de or they don't have the functions I need.

your reviews are so thorough I absolutely love them, I'd love to hear your opinions on the glorious gmmk pro. Is it a catastrophe at that price or is it worth it? I'm just so curious by their design decisions and with all the custom add ons it ends up being quite the investment for what it is

Added some KBDfans spacebar foam which has trasformed the Nuphy to another level. It sounds and feels so nice now. I left all the innards silicon as stock.
@@ASMCourtney Nice! The most important mod I recommend is the force break mod with some masking tape. Even though it has some silicon pads. The PE foam at the base doesn't do as much. The 2nd thing is get some of your favourite keycaps. Enjoy!

Sad fact about the battery. Not cool. And even if replacement is not too difficult, the screws they are using are not friendly to re-screwing.

@@ASMCourtney Nice! The most important mod I recommend is the force break mod with some masking tape. Even though it has some silicon pads. The PE foam at the base doesn't do as much. The 2nd thing is get some of your favourite keycaps. Enjoy!
Can you share how is the 2.4ghz connectivity for gaming? Do you experience drop offs, extra battery drain or latency? thanks!
@@eRaZerrOfficial Sorry i don't game with it, or the games i play are not FPS. I got it for work.
