It's exactly the same in a Union shop with apprentices. If a apprentice works good and does all he can to help a jorneyman get the job done then the jorneyman will teach the apprentice all he can usually.
so so true bout patterns. I'm a union steam fitter welder. the helper/fitter needs to figure those patterns out. It not only helps the welder but as a team, you can get more weld done if you both are in rhythm.
John and Rach Revolt very true hope everyone reads this comment.
Thanks for the advise Jacob Schofield. God Bless!
Your a good welder bro you actually teach and help out I was a marine 14 years wish my welder was like this
Good info on this video. It's also a good idea to pick up on the welder lingo. Learn which rods are used. Try to stay a step ahead as far as during the weld. Learn how to hand tools to the welder. Take care of the tools.
Great videos man lots of great advice not only on welding but on life experence in general i'v been wanting to get into pipeline work for a few years now i started watching you channel a few weeks ago and it has given me a little more insight on how to go about doing it. thanks again keep the videos coming

He bud, you should do a video on the difference between a rig welders, rig chasers and pipeliners 2 different worlds!
Jacob Sosa great thought I will for sure.
What is the difference?
Hopefully I can get some money together and go through a 20 week school nearby. Tired of college life and my useless degree program. Also great videos! Very motivational.
What is your degree program?

How’s it going brother it’s been 5 years
thanks a lot for the video
cool vid!
hi, i'm liking ur vids! thanks for putting out the info. i'd really like to learn about live tie-ins and welding well heads. even if u just talk about them would be cool, but to show how you do them ... even better.
karl rose the jobs I'm on right now are new projects so there is no product going through it. Live Tie ins I can talk about and I e never welded a well head on.
I'm a retired union boilermaker in my local the contractors always want welders and if a apprentice passes a tube test and is welding boiler tubes most of the time they will pay him journeyman wages
Are the fittings made the elbows and stuff or do you fabricate . I think I could be a good helper I'm a carpenter holler
Does the helper provide his own tools and consumables or does the welder?
I've been working as a welders helper and roustabout for about 6 months. Non union. I was hoping to ask if it's worth it to join the union? My main concern is solid work.
Chase Berkey Music union is the best choice brother,I was non union for 5 years ...ive being union for 4 years....now everything much better...retirement fund
Your welder is always right and prep ur fucken bucket😂 not all welders r the same when it comes to grinding
Jake what are some things a welder helper must know before getting hired on as a helper things that he needs to know to be prepared to be a helper?
how to use a grinder
What fo yall usually cap with i no ya run p5 roots but i weld up hill amd wana start practicing down hill what should I practice capping with?
Eric Z71 for sure man good choice we weld with 7010 hypi or 70+ 8010 both down hill rod they make a pipeline run both brands and they weld a lot smoother start with 5/32 learn how to weld that then start up 3/16 learn to run that. Hope that helps.
You're right you don't know
I wanna get into pipeline welding. I have the opportunity and plan to go to tech school to get a degree in welding next year. I am thinking i'll start out as a helper. should i skip the school and jump in as a helper or get the education first? Thanks for any advice.
Bill Johnson I'm in the same boat but I didn't start as a helper I decided to jump straight into a pipe welding school . 1 week dome btw
Im starting welding school next semester. Best of luck to you bud.
05:15 hehehe
Do you or anyone that you know of need a helper
I need help for get a welding job I want to contact welders I need make some money
welder helper advice from an x helper... get a book.
G Loyd what's up man what kind of book? Don't believe they make a helper book lol!!
Jacob Schofield I think he meant his UA book!
Does the welder hire and pay the helper of is he hired by the company?
Richard Hake it all depends, most pipelines companies pay helpers and welders separate. But on some contracts they pay welder for both, on drilling rigs most of the time no helper is paid because they supply a labor hand on site and is up to you to pay if you want to bring one but you will have to pay more for contract insurance.
is that a sessions and sons hat?
Who's ever is a helper more than 1 year half ...it's a looser cuz welding is easy & fitting even easier ,,sorry I was a helper for 7months I started learning to weld pipe & passed my 1st test in 7 months...never settle
jonathan ortega hahahah wouldn’t call someone a looser John Wayne we all know your a rockstar. Some guys have take a little longer some guys like me never wanted to do this but then made it happen when we decided to go after it. Once you set your mind to it it’s not a hard thing. Goddamn these welders think they’re marines im a welders helper I’ve done more in my 5 year career than he’s ever done welding I don’t appreciate the way he talks to me 0311 I infantry Rifleman Iraq and Afghanistan veteran
First thanks for being a badass. Your a good dude and thanks for keeping the crazy over there. Second... What are you talking about? I don’t believe we compared ourselves to the Marines. Are you just looking for something to get offended about or what?
