    It's exactly the same in a Union shop with apprentices. If a apprentice works good and does all he can to help a jorneyman get the job done then the jorneyman will teach the apprentice all he can usually.

    so so true bout patterns. I'm a union steam fitter welder. the helper/fitter needs to figure those patterns out. It not only helps the welder but as a team, you can get more weld done if you both are in rhythm.

    Good info on this video. It's also a good idea to pick up on the welder lingo. Learn which rods are used. Try to stay a step ahead as far as during the weld. Learn how to hand tools to the welder. Take care of the tools.

    I've been working as a welders helper and roustabout for about 6 months. Non union. I was hoping to ask if it's worth it to join the union? My main concern is solid work.

      Eric Z71 for sure man good choice we weld with 7010 hypi or 70+ 8010 both down hill rod they make a pipeline run both brands and they weld a lot smoother start with 5/32 learn how to weld that then start up 3/16 learn to run that. Hope that helps.

    Does the welder hire and pay the helper of is he hired by the company?

    • @rigsospuro7158
      @rigsospuro7158 7 лет назад +3

      Richard Hake it all depends, most pipelines companies pay helpers and welders separate. But on some contracts they pay welder for both, on drilling rigs most of the time no helper is paid because they supply a labor hand on site and is up to you to pay if you want to bring one but you will have to pay more for contract insurance.

      First thanks for being a badass. Your a good dude and thanks for keeping the crazy over there. Second... What are you talking about? I don’t believe we compared ourselves to the Marines. Are you just looking for something to get offended about or what?
