  • We've all heard they're slow...but how slow are they? Is it really as bad as people say it is, or are the rumors true? Today we put Six Flags America to the test and time their train dispatches!

    I used to work at a theme park years ago in the rides department. I can understand the long time it takes to load/unload & dispatch trains out of the station. Although I will admit a great deal of the long wait time is due to either employee laziness or the lack of working at an efficient tempo with guests, the other part of it is also because some riders (usually the older folks) are nearly in a hurry to board the train and often take their time to remove their personal items and then get comfy & cozy before pulling their lap bars down or seat belts on. In this case of this video, you've definitely exposed a fatal flaw in ride operations, not just this park but virtually in most if not all parks around the world. One thing to keep in mind is that these are your regular, mostly teenaged workers making minimum wage for the summer, but they need to realize that it's their JOB to provide the park guests with the best experience possible.

    Cedar Fair and Six Flags should start learning on how to operate efficiently from German theme parks. Europa Park and Phantasialand, for example, are extremely efficient in dispatching the coasters. Back in 2008, I went to SFA with some friends. Tried to get on Joker's Jinx, but it broke down when we were at the front of the line. Fortunately they gave us passes to get on another ride, so we went to Superman. Waited maybe 45 minutes and the line barely moved (we got to see Batwing dispatch about twice during those 45 minutes). We ended up giving up and just went and rode Wild One instead. At least I got the one credit that mattered at that place. The last line I waited in was for season pass processing (as they were the cheapest we were going to SFGAdv the next day) and that line also took forever

    i remember working at revolution at sfmm and we were able to dispatch trains in usually about 3 mins, seat belt checks were done in less than 30 seconds our crew was efficient and we figureded out how to get it done quickly and safely. some of the other ride ops from around the area would sometimes come over and study how we did it.

    To be fair, ik this is hilarious, I mean It makes me nuts how pointlessly long it takes them to load "Bizzaro" at Six Flags Great Adventure. But the stand-ups are always a nightmare, you just got lucky. They should all get sit down seats. The Vekoma Flying Dutchman problem is stupid people or lazy employees, so that one is kinda a 50/50. They fool around on Mind Eraser just to try it make look like people are riding, that needs to be removed and replaced with a 4-D free fly. Intamin's hyper Supermans are just bad tbh, i'm suprised they ever built more than one.

And somehow they are standing while arrow's meant to be B&M Drachen Fire was taken down lol.

  • @sue6006

    I work as a ride operator at one of the many Six Flags locations. I know a terribly long wait time to be put on your ride, it just depends on how crowded the park is and how well our rides are working. There’s lots of things we have to do before every single launch to ensure that everyone is and will be safe while the rides are in motion. We even arrive an hour to thirty minutes early and go down two page checklists to make sure that every single ride is operating as it should be and won’t put anyone in any kind of danger. Maintenance and Safety walk up and down the tracks and test the cars/RVs/trains (whatever the ride uses to dispatch) every morning and come in at four to five in the morning to do so depending on when the park opens. It’s a hassle to load, unload and check restraints when we have to take some guests on and off the ride while loading and then we ALL have panels we have to run back to and start pushing buttons and rushing. I’m sorry you had such long dispatch times, we’re really trying our best.

    I went here around 12 years ago, and its still to this day the only time I have ever walked out of a park after 3 hours of being there. Every single line was hours long because of their ridiculously slow operations, and absolute refusal to run more then one train on the rides even though it was a weekend and the line for Batwing was 4 hours long.

  • @mercibeau

    but why is it a problem?? id rather let them take 20 minutes than 1 minute if they're making sure we're safe so i really dont care lol. when i went to six flags on the green lantern ride the ride operator let us know they've been working non-stop 6 days a week 11-11 at night. cut them some slack.

    • @CoasterStudios
      @CoasterStudios  7 лет назад +15

      The thing is that they don't need to take that much time to keep you safe. I've seen Firehawk at Kings Island, which is the same coaster as Batwing, dispatched in less than 2 minutes. These coasters were designed to be dispatched in a short amount of time. This isn't a safety thing- this is about being slow. When I was there watching them checking restraints, they had very little energy or enthusiasm and just didn't care about the time it took to send out a train.

    • @CoasterStudios
      @CoasterStudios  7 лет назад +71

      No, that's not it at all. I think you're missing the point. Most parks are not this slow- on some coasters, ride ops can have the train out in less than 60 seconds AND ensure everyones safe. You can be fast and keep riders safe. I'm not saying they should sacrifice safety to be fast, because that's not what I think at all. Safety is always #1 priority. The point is to see how fast they can be while guests are secured and safe.

    • @chaoticxcandy
      @chaoticxcandy 7 лет назад +21

      Look at Cedar Point. Their dispatch times are crazy fast and they never have any incidents with people falling out of cars, seatbelts unbuckling or anything like that. I work at Cedar Point and from this past Summer's time slots, it looks like Raptor had the fastest dispatch times in under 30 seconds, and there aren't any freak accidents on there. Like Coaster Studios said, safety is the #1 priority, but obviously their ride operations are not pushing them to move quickly because I can only imagine how backed up the lines get when you go to an amusement park like Six Flags.

    • @shroomyesc
      @shroomyesc 7 лет назад +5

      The problem is workers who work painfully slowly. At all the parks i've been in dispatch has been so much faster than these examples, even on VR coasters!

    • @TheYellowSchoolBusDude
      @TheYellowSchoolBusDude 7 лет назад +2

      You just need the right team. The park I work at is great. Particularly on our Boomerang coaster we can generally fill all 28 seats, check restraints and get it dispatched in under 60 seconds. (Granted we don't have to let anyone off, or there are no guest issues) Efficiency and turnaround times are really important when the line is long but so is safety.

    If you want quick operations, you absolutely have to visit Knoebels. Their dispatches are so quick, I timed Twister's dispatches and they were 30 seconds long. As soon as you lower your lap bar, the operators immediately start checking and before you know it, you are out of the station with no warning. It was great.

    • @RY30DM
      @RY30DM 6 лет назад

      Twister would have a longer dispatch time if they used the seat belts that PTC installed (seat belts always make for longer dispatch times). Instead, Knoebels stuffs them down in the seats.
