Dear Maestro Kimon, I have been resisting the urge to make a violin for a long time, but after watching your series on making one I have finally given in. I have started practicing all the steps in the process by using pine and meranti wood. I am learning by making many mistakes and watching your and David Sora of Cremona’s videos. I am buying just enough tools at each step to complete the task and have so far made two scrolls, two fingerboards, a mould and half the ribs. I am just starting the upper plate using soft pine, so your video on how to make a shaping mould has come just in time. At my current rate of learning, I should be ready to make my first “real” violin soon, having ordered my first batch of spruce and maple from Italy. Thank you for all your great advice. Regards. Andre du Toit. South Africa.
Thank you so much for actually putting out step by step videos. I have searched the internet and so far you are the only person willing to do so. I would love the Stradivari Messiah to try and make for myself. Thank you!
I would be so grateful for any of the moulds. I have been learning how to make a violin and your website has been so useful. But if I had to choose one the Guarneri would be good. A very happy new year to you. I do agree I hope 2021 will be better.
Greetings from Italy! I'd really like the Stradivari Messiah mould in order to start making violins, I'm trying to make luthiery my life-work, I've always loved violin making but due to this lockdown situation I can't save much money for all the tools... I only made electrical instruments, trying to selling them to buy classical luthiery tools, but nowadays is really hard to find customers... I've watched all your Violin Making series (and this video helps me a lot too) and I hope to follow you step-by-step as soon as possible!
First, thanks you for all your knowledge and share it with us. I don't prefer one or other, just have a present from you, and try to make my first violin, thanks!
Thank you for the videos, they help my understanding of the violin very much! I would like the Stradivari, but I really don't really mind which it is. Thankyou!
Thank you for the give away offer. I would like to have the Guarneri Kreisler if chosen. I am going to be studying under a violin maker starting this coming summer and have the templates for the Guarneri Kreisler already. This would make it much easier to get started. Thanks again and happy new year!
Thanks for yet another great video maestro! Between the two forms I'd definitely choose the Guarneri Kreisler! Stay safe and happy holidays and a happy new year!
I’ve been waiting for an instructional video to come out like this. I have my wood for a mold and I’m excited to get cracking on! I would love to work with the Guarneri Kreisler mold as I’ve always been a fan of the instrument. Again thank you for all of your videos.
I would live the Guarneri Kreisler one if I was selected. Although either would work, the sound that comes from a Garner has always impressed me. Thank you Maestro-Kimon
Thank you again for more of your valuable time and knowledge. I wouldn't mind having either one of these models. However since I know that I would never put them to use, I will simply say good luck to whomever you choose to send them to.
I would love the Messiah mold. I'm planning to make my own violin in 2021 and didn't get a mold yet... I would also use the opportunity to order some ebony fittings from your merchandise store as well. Happy 2021 to you too and I'm really looking forward to your videos.
This is by far the more informative channel I have had the pleasure of subscribing to. The step by step video's are Awesome. I have most of the material to start building and now I can start my shaping mold. thinking hard on the Stradivari 1716 Messiah. Thank you so much for making these awesome video's public. Ill let you know how my build is going ( I am very slow ) might take awhile. Cheers..
Thanks for all the fantastic and helpful videos! They've been incredibly helpful to me, and nobody else is making videos and detailed as yours. I'd love to be included in the giveaway for the Strad mold. Thanks for everything you do!
Love watching your videos! I’m just getting into luthiering, and you make it look so easy! I would love either mould, but the Guarneri Kreisler is my favorite of the two. Take care! - Mike
Hey Kimon, thank you a lot for all your great videos and that you answered my question on your last Q&A. I really appreciate how you do your channel here :) Deciding between the two models is really hard, but I guess the Messiah is the right choice for me. Thanks
Thank you so much for your kind feedback Lorenz! If you have more questions don't hesitate to send them to me, I'm always looking for new topics to tal about in my videos!
Merry Christmas! I believe the Shaping Mould would be wasted on me. As you may or may not remember, I repair instruments for my inner-city school programs. (Mostly 1/8-3/4 sized instruments.) I do whatever I can to get a playable instrument in a child's hands and your videos have been a tremendous help. The belt sander in the video is usually called an Oscillating Spindle Sander here in the US. Also, congratulations on the monetization of your channel. The ads I saw were appropriate to my age and interests and not at all obtrusive. The ad bot did its job and I hope you begin to get many rewards.
Of course I remember you! You do a great job, giving the opportunity to children to learns music. About the adds: I have no influence about what add you see. I can only set up where the adds ar in the video but if you will see them and what product it will be is totally up to RUclips and other regional setting of google.
Oh, no problem! I only meant that such ads mean your channel is growing! It's a little algorithm robot that chooses the ads, slang here in the US as the "bot". From my own research, part of the algorithm is the approval of your channel by the advertisers. I saw Disney+, so I think that's a good sign. Your channel is excellent and deserves recognition!

How would I get started learning to make violins, cellos, and violas? I have a small shop. what tools do I need? Do I have to go to a special school? I'm not sure that I'm ready to work full time but i've been giving it some thought! Perhaps you can make a video about this? thanks! your biggest fan, Paul
Hello Paul. It all depends if you want to become a professionale violinmaker or you want to make a couple of instruments just for hobby. If you want to become a profesionale I would definitely suggest to go to one of the schools that there are (in Italy, France, Germany, England and the US as far as I know). Otherwise you can use all the information on the internet (like my videos!!!) and books. You can also have a look to my video about the tools that you need. I wouldn't bother about a temperature controlled as long as it is not extremely warm-cold-dry-humid.
@@maestrokimon thanks so much! I gave it some thought. My area is in the garage outside. it is not heated or cooled. so, looks like a no go for the moment. I may make a space in the house in the future, but for now I will just play my cello. We will see how the future goes, but it's possible that I could learn in a local luthier in Troy, michigan. I don't know if a spot will open up. For now, I'm just going to keep learning to play cello, and plan on teaching in the future. thank you for all of your help and your videos! thank you and have a wonderful day!
Hello and thank you for all of your wonderful and informative videos. I realize that I am seeing this far too late to take part in the giveaway. I wonder however if it is possible to purchase a shaping mould for the Guarneri Kreisler?? I am beginning the build for my first violin (I am 67 years old), I am using a piece of maple from my late father's sawmill that I probably helped to process as a young boy back in the early 1960's. Also, I played on the Kreisler Guarneri violin in the late 1970's when I performed at the Library of Congress in Washington DC. So I plan to use this violin as the model for my build. I am trying to gather any information that I can about this instrument so would be happy to pay for the mould if that is a possibility. Thank you once again for all of your information. This has helped immensely in the start-up of my violin repair business. BTW ... I am in North Bay ON, Canada. Cheers! Glenn

I would love to have the Guarneri Kreisler mold! You saw my Guarneri model violin I believe, but that one is more like my own interpretation of the Vieuxtemps, and I would very much like to have a "proper" guarneri with all of the nice templates in those boxes! In my opinion, a good sound depends more on the accuracy of the thickens of top and back than on the mold! Nevertheless a good starting point makes the hole processes better! Greatings!
