This style of low kick seams very specific for this form of karate. I think if they were to move back allowing the hips to rotate and rolling the shin people would be dropping after one kick.
Someone whom has done muscle conditioning will win.. ..i see more injury than a sport or entertainment.. Usually, the best strikers can't take too much; hence perfection on strikes, but lacking the pain threshold.. ..to be both, is monstrosity.
Why not issue trunks or gi bottoms with a highlighted square on the exact area to kick? That way there is no confusion. One extremely low kick and a fighter could be crippled.

There kicks are more simplicit but have an after effect of a crowbar. My dad is a black belt in kyokushin and even at 70 he still beats me. (Obviously I go not even 40 percent but still)

People think Muay Thai has the best low kick but the kyokushin low kick is twice as fast and stronger than mauy thau
Kyokushin is the only style where they focus on short range like here in other styles such as Thai it's a longer distance
