    Was considering school psych but I’m not organized and I’m horrible at time management (thanks adhd) but really I was wronged as a child because of my undiagnosed adhd. I would love to help children and prevent them from falling through the cracks like I did

    Thanks for your video it was very helpful. I am currently a junior in undergrad and majoring in special education and I am struggling on what I want to do. I know I don’t want to be a teacher but do not know what jobs help students with disabilities and advocate for them. Becoming a school psychologist seems like it has everything I am looking for. I do have a question about how much on going interaction do you have with the students. Do you just see them a few times or do you see them more. I am interested in a career that will both help students with disabilities and be able to keep helping as they go through school.

    Hi ! :) I'm Katie, I'm so happy I found your channel. I have my BS in Psychology and I've been working as an RBT in ABA for the last year and a half thinking about what Grad program I wanna do. I'm debating between school counseling vs school psychology. Do you have any videos on this? I think being a school psychologist would be more of what I've learned with ABA with doing assessments and behavoiral mods and interinvetions which I love. However, I also enjoy counseling and emotional based learning so I'm really torn between way route to take. Do you have any information or advice for me?

    • @rachelferagne2188
      @rachelferagne2188  3 года назад +7

      Absolutely! So as a school psychologist, you are also trained to conduct individual and small group counseling with students in addition to doing assessments. Most districts will have school psychologists do both counseling and assessments. Hope this helps!

      Thank you! My first year out in the field was great! I had some learning curves being on my own, but had great co-workers to lean on for support. Almost all school districts have a salary schedule, meaning depending on your degree, you start at a certain pay (many times these are on the districts website).

    hello so i am lookin to pursue a career in school psychology. I recently just graduated with a bachelor degree in psychology and was wondering how long will it take to be a school psychologist? Like i know you have to pursue for a masters so that’s 2 years but do you need to get your doctoral and how many years will that be cause i know it varies in the career you are pursuing.

    • @rachelferagne2188
      @rachelferagne2188  3 года назад

      I’m glad to hear you’re interested in school psych! So the nice thing is to be a school psychologist, you only need your Masters (most programs are 3 years) to work in a school. You do not need a doctorate unless you’d like to have a private practice or conduct research, that would be about another 4 years of school.

    • @rachelferagne2188
      @rachelferagne2188  2 года назад

      Hmm...technically once your home, you're not obligated to check your work email, so if you don't see an email from a student, technically it's not on you. But that is tricky, I would check with your principal about that; maybe try to connect those students to outside therapists whom they can contact during your non-work hours.
