  • @Geallach83

    My current favorite format!
    1. It opens up archetypes that just suck in EDH, like burn (20 life vs 40), and mill (60/58 vs 100/99).
    2. Its super quick! While I love long, involved games like the next guy, there are times when its just not feasible to sit in a game for hours back to back.
    3. I already brewed a lot of decks, but my current favorite is my Huatli, the Sun's Heart/Tower Defense toughness matters deck, and my Saheeli, Sublime Artificer/Banishing Knack infinite combo deck. Very different characters but both fun to play!

      Yes, very much so. You cant snapcaster mage the spell, and seize the day is less good as you dont get two uses for one commander tax. I initially though of playing Bolas storm with past in flames as the spell, with all of the rituals and tutors at my disposal along with tendrils and grape shot. But you cant flash it back. Wait actually yagmoths will would be good... but anyways my playgroup has done a bunch of testing and playing around with decks, and with high powered cards the format seems like an inbetween of vintage and legacy but in a singleton format. Always having a JtMS on turn four can be very good, and deck building around that can be very interesting.

    I love that it's 20-life, 60-card, which avoids invalidating a lot of the strategies that commander does.
    The banlist has some odd choices though, namely Ad Nauseam, Griselbrand, Emrakul, Sylvan Primordial, and Primeval Titan (since it's no longer as slow as commander, the bignasty creatures seem less abusive. Whereas Ad Nauseam is no worse than a large number of other spells you could run as your signature spell if you really want to try to break the format.)
    It also gives me a reason to run Tibalt 1.0, since he's the cheapest 'walker to get out onto the field and start sig-spelling with.

    Oathbreaker has recently started taking off at my lgs casually, cool to see you do a video on it. So far I've been going through some of my lesser played edh decks and pretty much just cutting them in half and tweaking them into an Oathbreaker deck. Scarab God control turned into Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver/Heroes' Downfall for example.
    So far the decks I've seen people build have varied wildly among archetypes and power level. I'm really glad you made a comment about it being more than a flash in the pan format because many magic the gathering players at my lgs that haven't given a try yet were worried it's just another case of tiny leaders.

    I'm glad that people are finally making other versions of EDH/Commander.
    I personally enjoy what I call 'Champion', which is basically a streamlined version of EDH for new players.
    If you would like to see the rules hit read more.
    1. You can choose any creature to be your Champion (Not just legendary creatures)
    2. The color identity of your deck is not decided by your Champion.
    3. Instead of immediately returning to the Command Zone, you may only return them during your upkeep.
    If they would be sent to your library they are exiled instead. (If you return them to your hand you may play them at whatever cost they currently have.
    This makes unsummon a godsend in Champion, and slightly broken lol.)
    4. Each time they enter the Command Zone they cost 1 more to cast.
    5. You can use any normal deck (At least 60 cards, only up to 4 of each, etc...)
    6. You can play Champion in any format pretty much (Which is awesome in my opinion)
    Reply with your variations!

    It seems silly that Doubling Season is not banned. You can run Tamiyo, Field Researcher as your Oathbreaker and Enlightened Tutor as her instant/sorcery to get Doubling Season every game.

    • @Link442211
      @Link442211 5 лет назад +2

      That's pretty slow though, and you'd need to cast Tamiyo first to cast Enlightened Tutor

    • @sunkingpoet
      @sunkingpoet 5 лет назад +2

      The problem is that first you have to cast Tamiyo, second you have to cast Enlightened Tutor and show everyone what you're getting, and thirdly you have to then cast Doubling Season. Tamiyo is already on the board so she doesn't take advantage of the Season. And then don't forget, you're at 20 life. It's pretty easy to get knocked right out of the game if they see what you're up to.

    • @pokinfunatcartman
      @pokinfunatcartman 5 лет назад

      Yeah, but a lot of things have to go right for you to be able to immediately play tamiyo and get your combo off successfully. And, if you enlightened tutor for doubling season you will immediately pull the entire table's aggro because they will see what you're doing and focus all their resources to punish you for it.

    • @Flumpor
      @Flumpor 5 лет назад

      You could do that, but it's still quite a lot of mana. this Format is a lot fast, first you need to play tamiyo to cast your tutor, then you need to cast doubling season, let tamiyo die and then recast her again. This is a lot more setup since you only have 20 life and aggro Decks like Giddy Geddon or Combos like Narset/Windfall or Gaeureka are a real thing, the season is almost less of a problem then in regular Commander.

    my playgroup jumped on this format almost immediately after War of the Spark dropped and we love it. My favorite oathbreaker deck i've built so far is Karn, the Great Creator because of how his +1 interacts with Vehicles.
