I love how the phrase "greatest collection of villains" is punctuated by a giggling pirate clam. I mean that, he's awesome and I wish he wasn't just in this one cartoon.
He did have one more season: the 1980-81 season, with the new title The Plastic Man/Baby Plas Super Comedy Show, introducing his young son, Baby Plas, who was just as strong as his father. Two new segments were produced: 13 each of The Plastic Family and Baby Plas, and three new 11-minute traditional Plastic Man adventures.
@Scythemantis The villain in one of the "The Inspector" cartoons from the 1960's, "Reaux Reaux Reaux Your Boat", "The Clam", looks similar to this Plastic Man villain, right down to the captain's cap, except that he has arms and legs.
This show ran on ABC in 1979 and lasted for one season in 1980. It was originally a 2-hour show that features “Mighty Jack & Mutt”, “Fangface”, and “Rickety Rocket”. When “Plastic Man” went to syndication in 1984, they added “Heathcliff”, “Marmaduke”, “Goldie Gold”, “Action Jack”, and more to the mix, along with the live action segments, and a new opening sequence. It ran 5 days a week, with a total of 130 episodes, and it was cut back to a half hour.
I remember watching this cartoon series every Saturday morning on CBS one Saturday mornings was very fun of Aaron cartoons every Saturday morning because I was doing a young boy when the show came out back in the late 70s.
God! Did I love this cartoon! It came out right when I graduated. My friends and I used to wake up in Saturday morning stupors our first years out of h.school, and would kick on Saturday morning cartoons while "recuperating (wink, wink)." We were always so hung over we'd laugh at a bowl of Rice Krispies crackling. But this after Looney Tunes started the rejuvenating process for the day ahead. Hilarious stuff, every episode.
Plastic Man is one of the most powerful characters ever created. I think it'll be quite difficult to make a movie on him though. The CGI would be impressive, but wrapping the minds of the viewers around the outrageously unbelievable abilities that he has could harm the film. Imagine a scene where he turns his body into a 100ft basketball net or something to catch a bunch of people falling from a building or something. That'd be impressive, but how much can our minds suspend our belief here?
I used to watch this show when I was little, wehn my parents took me and my brother on holidays to the UK. We didn't understand English, but loved Plastic man all the same. I hoped to find more videos, but this one is already so nice!
Legion of Doom: Sure, his powers are very strong and all, but I bet we could beat him in a dance off. Plastic Man: 0:20 Legion of Doom: Curses! Foiled again!
Produced by Ruby-Spears Enterprises,"Plasticman" was part of ABC-TV's Sunshine Saturday Morning Schedule that originally ran for one season from 1979 to 1980. After 1980,the cartoon ran in repeats until 1983(when it landed in repeats for CBS' Saturday Morning schedule).
I grew up with this series and started buying some back issues of Police Comics where Plas first appeared back in 1940 plus the DC Plastic Man archives which reprint those early issues, It's a shame Plastic Man creator Jack Cole never lived to see all this come to pass.
I forgot about this show, but I remember the intro well. Plastic Man's voice sounded familar, he's Michael Bell and has acted and done and voice work for shows, including regular characters on Transformers, Voltron, Smurfs and G.I. Joe. He's also done voice work for many video games.
I love this intro. The way Plas transform to a ball and under water. Love it. Plastic Man versus Elongated Man vs Mr. Fantastic. eh eh Plas would won for sure. One of the best characters from JLA.
Yep, Plastic Man is the ORIGINAL stretchable superhero, and a big part of why comic books are called "comic" books. Before Mr. Fantastic, the Elongated Man, the Elastic Lad, or ever SUPER STRETCH there was Plastic Man. If he got a cartoon TODAY, it would be a welcome change of pace from the oh-so-serious and well-produced DC comics cartonns.
I read somewhere that Warner Bros. was set to do a live-action,laden special effects version of PLASTIC MAN with Jim Carrey set to star in the title role, John Landis set to direct it,and getting Robert Zemeckis to produced it along with Ilya and Alexander Salkind(the producers of the original SUPERMAN movies) set to be released for the summer of 1998 that NEVER went into production. Imagine the boxoffice receipts and the phenomenal ticket sales that Jim Carrey would have brought in!
Me too,& I really don't care if some people put down superheroes from DC Comics.I have Plastic Man on DVD mostly for nostalgic purposes of growing up watching it on Saturday mornings.
Since James Gunn said that the DCU is going to have many different heroes and villains with different tones and genres abound. Well, I think we know who he should bring in the brand new DCU… Plastic Man and Ambush Bug. These are characters who unfortunately never got a live action film adaptation, but has had small appearances in other animated series. I would love to see anyone tackle these wild characters on the big screen or the small screen.
that sure is michael bell. i remember him mostly from the second incredible hulk cartoon show (1982). come to think of it, i do remember his voice on voltron; he was either keith or lance.
Plastic Man if it was just about the powers and no inventions, Mr. Fantastic usually just stretches, but Plastic man actually takes forms of stuff depending on the situation!
I had a plastic man figure...one of them was a little figure like a GI joe er sumthin and the other was bigger like a stretch armstrong...ya know i had a hulk like that too rubber and syrup filled and u could pull the crap out of it...i loved that thing..
Just rented this from Blockbuster Online. Total Greatness. I read somewhere one time that Jim Carrey should play Plastic Man. After watching this again I agree that there could be no other choice for the roll. This Plastic Man even sounds similar to Jim Carrey.
I used to watch this when I was a kid. l aways thought Plastic Man was kinda creepy! I don't know if it's that slimeball hairdo and shades-- that and all the weird things he could stretch himself into... ooga booga! Still, I kinda liked this show and never forgot it. It's neat to see it after 30 years... and I still think he looks pervy!; )
yea pforpz, i didnt think of dat!! and hes my fav movie star too man! its probably cuz i havent seen his recent movies dat i forgot about him! and i call myself a jim carrey fan!
"Try to make it real as possible" LOL! Plastic Man was created by Jack Cole in 1940 as a brilliant parody of superhero comics in general, You would no more get realism in Plastic Man than you would in a Picasso painting or George Herriman's Krazy Kat.
From out of the pages of DC Comics comes the world's newest and greatest superhero, PLASTIC MAN! He can spring, He can stretch... ...He can fly, He can bounce, He can change his shape... ...and, He can even dance! Each week, Plastic Man, will face the world's greatest collection of villains! There's action... ...There's comedy... ...There's danger! There's Penny! There's Bad-Lucked Hula! There's plenty for everybody, on "THE PLASTIC MAN COMEDY ADVENTURE SHOW"! "EAT YOUR HEART OUT APE-MAN!"
The second animated series produced by Ruby-Spears Productions, that same company that brought you classic Saturday Morning characters like "Fangface", "Heathcliff", "Thundarr The Barbarian", "Goldie Gold and Action Jack", "Mister T", & the animated series based on "Rambo",not to mention "Chuck Norris' Karate Commandos", and the animated version of "The Karate Kid"
@rayssonation Also "Rubik, the Amazing Cube", "Saturday Supercade", "Turbo Teen" and the 1980's revival of Alvin and the Chipmunks. (Though the Chipmunks were later taken over by another studio.)
In hindsight, the show could have done without Baby Plas. Then again,it was Saturday mornings that it aired on ABC and it had been geared towards our then age group.
Each week, Plastic Man will face the world's greatest collection of villains like this giggling, one-eyed clam.
I love how the phrase "greatest collection of villains" is punctuated by a giggling pirate clam. I mean that, he's awesome and I wish he wasn't just in this one cartoon.
Imagine having such a character in Young Justice
He did have one more season: the 1980-81 season, with the new title The Plastic Man/Baby Plas Super Comedy Show, introducing his young son, Baby Plas, who was just as strong as his father. "Anddd, he can even dance!" LMAO!!!
This show is a classic!!!

I loved this show as a kid, it was brilliant! Thanks for posting this
He can stretch inhumanly to incredible shapes, fly, and bounce...but even better, he can dance!
Disco dancing was an important superpower to have when this came out.
I wish I could watch them all over again.
Cool cartoon!
I love to see plastic man back in action in Batman -B&B
I still remember "eat your heart out ape man!"
I remember thinking "why does ape man want to eat his own heart out?"
Thank you for the uploads! I watched two of them already and wil certainly watch more. Great work!
I always love this funny show.
The strongest DC character right here guys.
how strong is he *really?*
I used to watch the hell out of this on Saturday mornings on ABC!

If you like that you'll love this, he has an enemy named The Weed, seriously!
I used to watch this show when I was little, wehn my parents took me and my brother on holidays to the UK. We didn't understand English, but loved Plastic man all the same. I hoped to find more videos, but this one is already so nice!

Legion of Doom: Curses! Foiled again!
sounds like a solid jj video
I couldn't wait for Saturday morning to watch this.
I love this cartoon, he's way better than Mr. Fantastic or Elongated Man!
Ah, the good old days. I miss being a kid.
Why can he fly?
Because reasons.
Well, I think that the torpedos would pass anyway under the submarine even without Plastic Man using his legs...
He doesn't fly, that small bit is an episode where he stretches between two trees and slings to make a high distance jump.
He can fly the way Superman used to. Big leaps'n shit.
This is the maddest, weirdest cartoon intro I have ever seen in my life .................Cool!
If America has a Plastic Man, the Philippines has a Lastikman.
Sweet! I remember this from years ago! Classic cartoon memories!
i freakin love Plastic Man.

0:24 "Each week, Plastic Man will face the World's greatest collection of villains! And also, a clam with an eyepatch and a little sea captain's hat."
I watched this when I was a kid, it almost looks like it was the Tick of its time! I don't remember much about the show.
0:12 He can fly! He can fly?
The ladies loved this guy😂
I love this intro. The way Plas transform to a ball and under water. Love it. Plastic Man versus Elongated Man vs Mr. Fantastic. eh eh Plas would won for sure. One of the best characters from JLA.
I sent away cereal box tops back in the seventies for a special edition Plastic Man comic. I was so sad when I lost it at school...

He can even dance! What a super-hero!

I can't believe this was made way back in '79
that sure is michael bell. i remember him mostly from the second incredible hulk cartoon show (1982). come to think of it, i do remember his voice on voltron; he was either keith or lance.
I've always thought Plastic Man was really Steve Dallas from Bloom County in disguise. They look really similar to me. >.>
A clam with an eyepatch.
Really, Plastic Man? Really?
You're 26 and far too young to appreciate this sort of cartoon.
@SexHot999
Agreed...the show jumped the shark with baby plas.
they def got to make a plastic movie in live action to be on the big screen!
cool action cartoon
what was his special power???? recycling plastic bags??? the ability to melt in fires???
Plastic Man if it was just about the powers and no inventions, Mr. Fantastic usually just stretches, but Plastic man actually takes forms of stuff depending on the situation!
I've heard it's coming to dvd soon thanks to Warner Bros! Woohoo! Roll on 2009!
Release history:
9/22/79-9/5/81 ABC
11/13/83-2/4/84 CBS (Plastic Man segment only)
1984 syndicated
I always felt that if they ever attempted a live action Plastic Man, Bruce Campbell would be the only man for the part!
I remember plastic man un the afternoon right after "Zoltron" wow I'm old. Damn.
Great tv show, jaja

@100crazzyguy Woozy Winks Plas's sidekick from the comics,
they just never worked him into this cartoon,
It's a damn shame they didn't.
Plastic man is hilarious.
and, he can DANCE!
Exactly how can he fly?
How does stretching make him fly?
