For Halloween this year, Jen Schachter takes on the ambitious project of making a larger-than-life foam wig and costume in the style of Marie Antoinette. It's her first big EVA foam project, but Jen pulls it off wonderfully with a costume that's equal parts period pouf and 80s glam rock. Follow along Jen's journey patterning and fabricating this epic hairstyle and use it as a guide to make your own foam costuming wig!

HECK YEAH! JEN BUILDS!
What I love about this is that she is still figuring stuff out. Where adam is the old master who may not know exactly but has enough experience to know the methodology to get results. I love the contrast. would love to see more of her.
I love watching Bill work with foam.....but as an expert he does make it look deceptively easy. Seeing Jen take on such an ambitious first project and how she dealt with problems actually gives a noob foam smith like me more confident to try my own project.
More Jen videos please :)
Jen has become one of my favourite Tested members.
It's a cartoon come to life. It's fantastic. She would've loved it.
You did such a wonderful job Jen! =D
Nice praise from the foam master himself!!
Aw shucks, thank you Bill!! Could not have done it without your generosity of knowledge. I learned from the best!
@@schac_attack Everyone starts somewhere, as for the cap, I was thinking about putting the hair into a top bun and sorta locking it in that way also gives you a more uniform base as day to day your pinning could change.
I respect the Hoodslam shirt

@@MasterMordekaiser Just adding it now! It was late last night when we finished this up; we just forgot.
This was a fantastic build and a fantastic build video! Look like Jen had a lot of fun putting this all together. Great problem solving along the way. Loved the explanations as we went along. The tip on making more organic curls was great! And MAN does the final product look amazing! Reminds me I want to do a Medusa wig and costume someday. Look forward to more Jen builds in the future!
I am super proud of this artist 🎨 👏 💜 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ much love to her and her journey!!
She even said monolithic, a truly excellent tested video.
Awesome job!! Thanks for sharing.
Great job Jen!! Fantastic work for your first foam build and I’m so glad you like working with my HD-Foam! 👍
I like how Adam's co-stars look scaringly like the old co-stars from Mythbusters.
Coincidence or casting preference?
Scooby doo van time...
What a awesomesauce build and for a first time with the Eva foam. This has help inspire me to give it a try for my first Eva project. So thank you for this
Woot! If you do decide to do a project, please share photos with us on Twitter! @donttrythis and @testedcom
What a great process video. I love watching the crafting experts like Bill and Britt at Punished Props and Steve over at SKS Props, their years of experience really shine when they make something beautiful out of the most basic tools. BUT I also love seeing someone who is experienced at crafting but not at a particular medium working THROUGH the process. Making mistakes, solving problems, redoing things, and learning from the process, it really shows what this kind of work is like. And for people out there who have never made something like this, it's so encouraging for them to see someone who's highly skilled try something new and eventually succeed. Great Video, Jen! You may now eat cake.
Wow Jen, Amazing work. It looks magnificent on your head. And the cake prop is magnifique!
Jen, mad props for the video, but I have to confess.....I clicked the link thinking Adam somehow got Kari Byron on the show for a one-day-build. Still enjoyed it and wasn't disappointed.
This was an incredibly impressive, but approachable build! It looks fantastic!
Great job!!! Teachable Moment: For proper fitting, however you preset (braid, pin or pin-curl) your hair to take measurements or make a mold, you need to duplicate it for the final fitting. Wig cap are definitely your friend.
Loved seeing your whole process and all the info and insights you shared, thank you. The outcome is fantastic!
My first Jen video and I'm a new fan! Great video, and even though I have no plans to make a cosplay headpiece anytime soon, I was riveted!
Love it always nice to have new or newer builders and women need more attention in this aspect
Wow the paint really sells it! The first time the wig was on screen I thought for a moment there was some kind of fake hair involved.
I want to thank you for this video. Although my final product differed, your process helped me make the helmet and frame for a headdress I recently made. This was very helpful.
Well that was just fabulous! A masterpiece indeed! 💕
fantastic art work, love it , and the cake really looks like you could eat it ,,, dress is beautiful, a job so well done bravo,,,,,,,,,,
my goodness Jen, way to tackle a foam build! That's one heck of job youve done. Ive been foam smithing for years and this is a delight to watch!
Oh wow! Looks awesome! Wasn't expected this upload but so happy to see it. Look forward to the next video from ya
I always love Jen's projects!
I enjoyed this greatly. Awesome build!
Jen is a great presenter, more of her please!
This build is badass jen! Great job
THIS IS INCREDIBLE
stunning work
Super helpful, thank you. I've been wanting to do a foam wig for my Zapp Brannigan cosplay for ages but was very intimidated on where to start, this is very helpful.
That would be awesome, good luck!
Let's be honest. We'd all watch Jen sort a box of packing peanuts by weight.
Please link to this packing peanuts video.
Love this video. Amateur hour + Amazing DIY = charming and inspiring
Looks fabulous and fantastic!
I am do happy to see more builds! I look forward seeing a lot more
Not just in at the deep end [getting sculptural 1st time out with EVA] but with full Diver's lead weights and boots! But like Houdini, you've risen to the top with flair; and not let the material constrict your creativity.
Having 'sculpted' EVA myself [Alex Mercer's arms from the game, Prototype] I started with Bill [& Brittany] Doran and Evil Ted's videos and 'got creative'. As you say you can develop your own techniques to suit your project.
I am extremely impresssed with your unique style in EVA - the helmets that rule cosplay; with so many patterns available ARE a great starting point for the beginner but 'outside the box' is a lot more fun!
Magnificent mad hair! Fascinating to see the rise in your experience and the evolution of the surfaces-- the point at which you point to the S curve on the back-- I could see you were headed in the right direction. Those ringlets are just right.
Amazing. Happy Halloween!
Amazing! love it, i got try for my carnaval wig i need for february! well done
That is truly AWESOME!
I just watched a 40 minute video about a foam wig. And I loved it.
I love how you did this!!!! I probably would have made a chin strap and hidden most of it with long sideburn pieces. This is fantastic!
That's awesome, I too have been making Halloween costumes and props for years but never used EVA foam until this year. It's been a great experience and definitely loved this video and need to pick up a dremel, and the guide books!
More Jen please!!!!
Truly fun and entertaining to watch. Thanks!
Masterclass. What an amazing experience.
Thank You Jen!!
Great job! Can't wait for the next one Jen
I'm watching Jen wrap up her head in sticky plastic wrap and I'm reminded of all the Mythbusters episodes where they had a hard time getting something out of a silicone mold they were making of it.
looks awesome!
This is fantastic - so inspirational
This is amazing ❤
That's fabulous Jen! Well done! Just one point from someone who did something similar a while back - the main support structure being in EVA foam may become problematic as it gets warmer, from your head, ambient temp, under lights etc. - the piece may start to sag. If you could replace, or bolster the big central EVA pieces with lexan or something similar and *lightweight* the piece will be more robust.
Great job!
I have never seen you or this channel before Jen but you wear hoodslam tees so you're A-OK in my book!
Falco approves of this costume.
What a fun show of how to use eva foam.
First of all, YAY JEN! More Jen builds!
Secondly, Bill getting two Tested sout-outs in one week. Go Bill!
super fun and informative! great vid!
Wow, incredible build!
Jen is a tonic. More Jen pls k thx bai.
That's gorgeous work!
That was fantastic. I thought the cake was a nice touch.
absolutely beautiful work!!
Jeez... EVA foam??? That must weigh a ton!! :o
C'est magnifique!
Ngl I now want to make a foam helmet thanks Jen!
Amazing job and amazing video! Thank you
this is fantastic ❤
Quedo muy bien! Genia.
Great work! I LOVED it!
awesome!! it's amazing!
YAY great costume, and vid!
Very cool! I'm surprised no one mentioned Beach Blanket Babylon. The wigs in that are *totally* ridiculous!
Damn - that's amazing. Picked up a few ideas too for that material!
Your tape head mold reminds me of the original Tron helmets. Haha
the headcap creation reminded me of when I made a Corey Taylor Slipknot mask when I was 13 (based on his first mask). To get the form I draped an old shirt with eyeholes over my head, and wrapped my entire head and face with duct tape. Of course, I didn't think too far ahead and was flying solo with no prior mask making experience. My mom ended up having to cut a slit in the back of it so I could get it off my face. I did a lot more work to it after that, but it actually ended up working out really well. Nice to know I was in a reasonable ballpark with problem solving it even as a kid with no experience.
What a fun prop
this was so much fun! I'd love to see more female driven content on the site and this has my hyped up for my first foam build which in all honest probably won't happen for a year
Looks amazing :D Great work :D
Brilliant! Great problem solving, here. I was going to suggest (but maybe you already discovered) that you can use bobby pins to attach the wig to your skull cap, to keep the wig from wiggling around. Happy Halloween! 🎃
Now that you’ve mastered foamsmithing, on your first try no less lol, i can’t wait to see all the cool things you can make out of foam!
Very well done!
Amazing project and result - especially for your first time using EVA foam! It may have only saved a few ounces, but you might consider cutting some skeletonizing holes in the 10mm foam understructure if it doesn't compromise the stiffness too much. Clearly not as a retrofit to this project, but might be helpful in future projects! Keep up the great work!
Fantastic! A+ for the thumbnail.
Good Job on your wig it looks awesome and I would like to see more cosplay that you do.
Neat project. I may never do one, but I love the techniques used and hope to work them into things I do. One small recommendation - I'd get one of those can-gun paint can trigger and handle adapters. They give you a LOT better control when trying to spray stuff. I prefer the design of the one made by Rustoleum, and it works with almost every can I've tried.
You just won the costume contest..... this year!
Freakin love it!!!!!!!!!!!
Incroyable, Merveilleuses
amazing love this
THIS IS DO GOOD OMG
Wow this was your first time using eva foam?? This is fantastic!
Awesome video I'm outside working on a mandalorian Armor set made from foam right now
Getting a like for the vid and that shirt, love it😁😋👌
Awesome
