I am a dedicated OceanWP user mainly because it is the best FREE theme out there in my opinion. Definitely going to watch these videos to see if Astra Pro is worth the investment. As a freelance web designer I want to be sure I am spending wisely and $200 is a good bit of money
I totally get that! And I agree that the free version of Ocean WP is more feature-rich than any free theme out there. However if were comparing the Pro versions, Astra is much more powerful and less expensive.

I've got a dozen ASTRA sites I've built since 2018. I came here to refresh my memory and procedure for installing with Elementor. I just paid my annual ASTRA PRO fee. I also have LIFTER LMS on a couple sites. I noticed you are using a different LMS now? LEARN DASH preferred by you now?
I didn't find this until after I started making changes to my astra site. Is there a way to start from scratch? Also if I am using one of the starter themes do I need a child theme?
Hi Adam; I love your videos and have watched quite a few. In this video I did not understand the point of a baby theme. You explained how to do it very well I just didn't get why. Thank You. Forgive me if this is a stupid question I am new at all this.
So it is a good and best practice to have what's called a child theme on your website. There may be times where you want to add custom code to your website, but if you add that custom code to the parent theme and then there is an update and you do the update, all of those customizations will be overwritten. The way you get around this is you have a child theme and you put all your code customizations in that child theme which will make it upgrade safe.

It's tough to compare the 2. I love GeneratePress, but am certain that Astra is a better theme all around. The edge that GeneratePress has is that it currently has better documentation, but that won't last long, Astra will catch up. You really can't go wrong with either though. And regarding a child theme, yes it is a good practice.

Adam, after watching several of your videos, I've done a couple of resets. Originally I realized I didn't have the Astra Child theme downloaded, so I went back and installed it. However, If I activate Astra Child Theme, it automatically deactivates the regular Astra Theme, and vice vs. I see your video is from 2017, did something change? and should I assume it's the normal Astra theme I need to have activated? thanks!

I'm new to Wordpress and I'm really starting to question using it. It seems like an awful fragile environment. I downloaded Divi and this theme was causing errors on my site. I got rid of that for Astra Pro. Everything was going great and while setting it up my blog post featured images are no longer visible. They are incredibly tiny and I have no idea why this happened. You've said in other comments that Thrive Architect WILL work as a page builder with Astra (which I just tested quickly as well...), so that's cool. But are there any other significant limitations of using Astra with TA as opposed to Elementor or Beaver Builder? (other than not being able to use the ready-made websites they have?) Do you have any significant reasons you would advise me to switch over to BB or Elementor for building the basic pages? Yes so TA works perfectly and there is no downside to using it over the other page builders. And I did chat with Shane at Thrive about wanting the option to have page templates with the theme header and footer. So I think that feature will be coming.
I believe the TA team is busy now with some issues after updates from their content builder to Archetict. Hope they can push some updates and features to TA soon. E

In your opinion, is adding Astra in addition to having Beaver Builder and Beaver Themer resulting in too many code layers or does Astra with Beaver Builder replace Beaver Themer? Seems Themer and Astra are heading in the same direction or am I incorrect. Any insights on this would be greatly appreciated.
That is the exact stack that I am using on my websites. I do understand where you are coming from, but the way I am doing things, I find some things are easier in an Astra feature then in Beaver Themer. I primarily only use Beaver Themer for page templates. Everything else I do in Astra.

In two days tried to install plugins AstraPro and ElementorPro - purchased - downloaded - and when I come to the point in WP to install the downloaded zipfiles, it says unsuccesful installation. Has anyone tried it and how can I resolve it. I have resolved the SSL problem, so this is not the reason for a failure in getting started with AstraPro.

I've just watched this (May 2018) to do a new install and I think that the templates Astra now give us with Astra Pro have changed. I have tried to follow your tutorial but my back end of Astra looks different now. However, the premium websites now look like they are only available with the Agency price - not just within Astra Pro - can you confirm that is right or am I doing something wrong???
There are a bunch of Astra Sites that are 100% free. They just have some of the paid ones at the top. But yea this video could use a redo because they have made many great changes. But if you follow along with my recent content you will see how to use the current options.

I can tell you that the code behind Astra is going to be a lot better than what you're getting out of OceanWP. I already think Astra is more powerful than Avada, but I have never been a fan of that theme because I find it bloated and slow. Why don't you tell me what your pain points are with Astra and I can try to make content to help with those areas.

Oh no! I already have the astra theme installed and have edited a template. The theme is active already without a child theme. Should I deactivate astra then get a child theme? Or should I generate a child theme with astra already active?
WordPress doesn't allow me to upload any of Astra's files I download. Not as a folder or as the individual files.. I purchased this and it literally doesn't work, terrible.
That would not be a feature that comes from your WordPress theme it would be a feature in WooCommerce and if you wanted to add additional. tabs. I'm sure there's a WooCommerce extension that allows you to do that.
If I buy Astra Pro and create a website for a client, do I install a copy of my Astra Pro onto their WordPress? And then what happens if I don't renew Astra Pro?

You are mis reading the page on my website. That is listing the value of my bonus, not the cost of the product. Regarding where the link takes you, can long as you make it to their site via the link on my site, everything will be fine.

If you prefer Elementor, then why not chose an elementor based Astra Site. There is an option right there, make sure you look at the options, there is an option to choose.
Hey Jack, there should be an update to Astra Sites today that will make it more obvious that there are options for Beaver Builder and Elementor. Sorry for the confusion.
I find I can't tag regular pages only the blog posts. I sent copies of pages to Astra and they were too rude to reply. All they do is send links to basic pages. They have no support at all. I don't even think they have anyone there that speaks English.

It's pretty easy. If you are using a page builder on any of your pages you just have to set them to full width. There are several plugins that Astra has released to make it easier. If you looks at their docs, instructions will be right there.
@@starkscapesllc6616 Guessing you've switched themes by now... from an astra them to another astra theme. Was it easy? Or did you have to wipe the site each time?
I would not recommend Astra Theme, let alone the agency plans (which I have). Yes it is very nicely made but they are very sale focused and it has bugs. Worst of all, the support is absolutely atrocious by today's standards. No live chat. No ticket system. Outdated knowledge base. No community forum. You have to send a contact us message that creates an untrackable "ticket" which takes them 12-24 hours (for US residents) to respond to via EMAIL since their support is only in India. Their support responses are lackluster in English and more-or-less links to existing articles which are of no help. They also ask for login credentials which adds another 12-24 hours delay with ultimately the same end results of them deferring blame, saying "they don't know why" or linking to some obscure article. Users should buy this theme expecting to troubleshoot and problem solve on their own. Extremely frustrating. I hope someone at Astra sees this and changes their support system because it is unacceptable.
Are you talking about the same Astra? Support - They have always had a ticket system Knowledge-base - It has hundreds of articles and every one is completely updated No Forum - They have a Facebook group, there are 9k other Astra users in there and they have links to it everywhere, including in the setting panel on your site Untrackable Tickets - All tickets can be tracked in Freshdesk Time To Respond - That is typical of all WP products No Live Chat - Having live chat is very rare for WP products because to have it they would have to increase the cost of their products Asking For Login - They do this when you open the ticket, if you don't provide it and they need it, of course they are going to ask you to provide it All that said, of course there is room for improvements with any business. It sounds like there is some plugin incompatibility happening on your site, I know it can be frustrating, and we all want instant help. Reality is WordPress products are extremely inexpensive and sometimes certain things take longer to fix.
Terrible advice. How many PLUGINS do you think it will take before your SITE CRAWLS to a halt. Iv said it on your other videos im say it again. TOO MANY SUGGESTIONS FOR PLUGINS! Your a plugin lover than i suggest, which you havent suggested yet, to build a MEMBERS ONLY installation of Wordpress to host LifterLMS and keep your main site as limited in plugins as possible otherwise your going to get into a situation where 15, 20 plugins will KILL THE SITE speed. Oh i forgot, your running Rocket on your own site. Another plugin to speed up the site because of too many plugins LOL!

Yes they are both wonderful themes, I just see Astra as having more advanced features and being a bit easier to use.

Oh yes David, you can upgrade at any point. You can do it when it's right for you.

On my website I am using Beaver Builder, but I really want to start using Elementor on this site. That being said I do have other websites that are using Elementor.

Hi Adam - I am in the middle of installing my Astra Pro - it says it's active but when I click on Appearance I have to options - one says astra options and one says astra sites. neither have the add on tab. where do I go now? Also, when does the website actually populate with my purchase? thanks

In two days tried to install plugins AstraPro and ElementorPro - purchased - downloaded - and when I come to the point in WP to install the downloaded zipfiles, it says unsuccesful installation. Has anyone tried it and how can I resolve it. I have resolved the SSL problem, so this is not the reason for a failure in getting started with AstraPro.

I've just watched this (May 2018) to do a new install and I think that the templates Astra now give us with Astra Pro have changed. I have tried to follow your tutorial but my back end of Astra looks different now. However, the premium websites now look like they are only available with the Agency price - not just within Astra Pro - can you confirm that is right or am I doing something wrong???
There are a bunch of Astra Sites that are 100% free. They just have some of the paid ones at the top. But yea this video could use a redo because they have made many great changes. But if you follow along with my recent content you will see how to use the current options.

Hello friend could you make a video comparing ASTRA and OCENWP I like Astra but Ocean has a little more tutorial I don't Know... I can tell you that the code behind Astra is going to be a lot better than what you're getting out of OceanWP. I already think Astra is more powerful than Avada, but I have never been a fan of that theme because I find it bloated and slow. Why don't you tell me what your pain points are with Astra and I can try to make content to help with those areas.
Right now with Astra, I would like to have 2 custom post, PORTFOLIO and TESTIMONIAL, right now I don't know wich plugin can I use for that matter... and alsoI would like to have more control with the post design, right now I'm using anywhere elementor, they told me about a bug they have with Astra that is been fix right now... But I can tell you that Astra with elementor is the best combination ...

Oh no! I already have the astra theme installed and have edited a template. The theme is active already without a child theme. Should I deactivate astra then get a child theme? Or should I generate a child theme with astra already active?
WordPress doesn't allow me to upload any of Astra's files I download. Not as a folder or as the individual files.. I purchased this and it literally doesn't work, terrible.
You guys are funny. Promote their packages, get the sales and show no one how to actually upload Astra, activate the license or anything lol

That would not be a feature that comes from your WordPress theme it would be a feature in WooCommerce and if you wanted to add additional. tabs. I'm sure there's a WooCommerce extension that allows you to do that.

If you don't renew your site still works fine. You just don't get access to support or future updates.
Your videos are helpful so just to appreciate I wanted to buy Astra pro through your link however its broken in 2 ways, your price is showing as 99$ for pro whereas on the website its only 49$ and secondly, your link doesn't go to the price page so when I go to the price page, your code in the url disappears. The Astra theme I want to use says it requires Beaver Builder. I prefer to use Elementor. Will it work or cause problems?
If you prefer Elementor, then why not chose an elementor based Astra Site. There is an option right there, make sure you look at the options, there is an option to choose.
Hey Jack, there should be an update to Astra Sites today that will make it more obvious that there are options for Beaver Builder and Elementor. Sorry for the confusion.

It works great with Divi, in fact many people use Divi builder with it because Astra is a better theme then the Divi theme.

I find I can't tag regular pages only the blog posts. I sent copies of pages to Astra and they were too rude to reply. All they do is send links to basic pages. They have no support at all. I don't even think they have anyone there that speaks English.

It's pretty easy. If you are using a page builder on any of your pages you just have to set them to full width. There are several plugins that Astra has released to make it easier. If you looks at their docs, instructions will be right there.

Astra is a free WordPress theme and they also offer a pro version that extends what you can do.
I would not recommend Astra Theme, let alone the agency plans (which I have). Yes it is very nicely made but they are very sale focused and it has bugs. Worst of all, the support is absolutely atrocious by today's standards. No live chat. No ticket system. Outdated knowledge base. No community forum. You have to send a contact us message that creates an untrackable "ticket" which takes them 12-24 hours (for US residents) to respond to via EMAIL since their support is only in India. Their support responses are lackluster in English and more-or-less links to existing articles which are of no help. They also ask for login credentials which adds another 12-24 hours delay with ultimately the same end results of them deferring blame, saying "they don't know why" or linking to some obscure article. Users should buy this theme expecting to troubleshoot and problem solve on their own. Extremely frustrating. I hope someone at Astra sees this and changes their support system because it is unacceptable.

Support - They have always had a ticket system
Knowledge-base - It has hundreds of articles and every one is completely updated
No Forum - They have a Facebook group, there are 9k other Astra users in there and they have links to it everywhere, including in the setting panel on your site
Untrackable Tickets - All tickets can be tracked in Freshdesk
Time To Respond - That is typical of all WP products
No Live Chat - Having live chat is very rare for WP products because to have it they would have to increase the cost of their products
Asking For Login - They do this when you open the ticket, if you don't provide it and they need it, of course they are going to ask you to provide it
All that said, of course there is room for improvements with any business. It sounds like there is some plugin incompatibility happening on your site, I know it can be frustrating, and we all want instant help. Reality is WordPress products are extremely inexpensive and sometimes certain things take longer to fix.
Terrible advice. How many PLUGINS do you think it will take before your SITE CRAWLS to a halt. Iv said it on your other videos im say it again. TOO MANY SUGGESTIONS FOR PLUGINS! Your a plugin lover than i suggest, which you havent suggested yet, to build a MEMBERS ONLY installation of Wordpress to host LifterLMS and keep your main site as limited in plugins as possible otherwise your going to get into a situation where 15, 20 plugins will KILL THE SITE speed. Oh i forgot, your running Rocket on your own site. Another plugin to speed up the site because of too many plugins LOL!
