    Hollywood didn't make this film. Why do people keep saying that? Nate Parker crowd funded the film because no one in Hollywood would support it. After it received critical acclaim at Sundance Fox picked it up for distribution

      I'll take your claim at face value, but do you _seriously_ think movies get out there _without_ some vetting?

    • @truthseeker8647
      @truthseeker8647 8 лет назад +6

      yes..because thats what exactly happened..Nate Parker fund this film with his own money ($100,000) at first..then went around on his own getting funding from all over

    • @l337pwnage
      @l337pwnage 8 лет назад

      Cali Finesse
      I said "vetting" not "funding". Plenty of "independent" movies die in obscurity. This movie fits the mold for what they want in the theatres, plain and simple.
      If I was bored I'd look up the list of who is from "all over", but I think I'll find many of the usual suspects on that list.
      But thank you for your input, I will keep that in mind and share it if the situation warrants it.

    • @phix01
      @phix01 8 лет назад +4

      l337pwnage You're naive. It was his success at Sundance that got Fox and Netflix to jump onboard. He went with a less lucrative deal with 20th Century Fox because it give him greater reach to the masses.
      They had no choice but to jump onboard because of the response from the people. The movie business is a Business and business needs to make money. The vetting you speak of IS the Sundance film festival. Here the industry became clear of the films earning potential and bid to buy in.

    • @l337pwnage
      @l337pwnage 8 лет назад +1

      phix
      They do have to make money overall, this is true, but they have many choices when it comes to which movies they promote and which ones they sabotage. They make their choices on a combination of things, this would be an easy choice for them as it fits right in with the rest of their current propaganda.
      Especially recent movies like "We Wuz Chezz Kangs" and the upcoming "We Wuz Rokit Sinetists".
      They make bad choices all the time, tho.
      They only lukewarmly supported "Deadpool" and it turned out to be a blockbuster. Nobody expected that to be so popular.
      And on the opposite scale, they tried their SJW "Ghostbusters" and that failed hard because they pushed too hard with their agenda.
      People are really getting fed up with the movie industry bias, but I guess we'll see if anybody watches this one.

      When we abolish this false belief systems or laws that's been imposed and indoctrinated in our mindset by the establishment, then we will be free again. A person who is free don't follow the laws of other men because the natural person is the law or the authority, as long as they don't impose their will upon others.

      Christopher Duffy I liked that about the movie too. All these black people were used and abused, but at the end of the day, they remained a family and silently fought their way through life. Nat made their frustrations known, albeit violently. He showed how much these people hurt.

      I am white and i greatly sympathize with all those oppressed people and were i born back then i would gladly revolt alongside them.
      But i don't really get it, You do know that the white people had slaves because the Bible never said that there was anything wrong with it? The "Black" pastor in the trailer even quoted the verse. Old and new testament...
      I'm not judging here but i cant understand how you can then pray to something(a god) that allowed slavery to even exist... I just don't get it...
      but yes I agree. A movie like this is a long time due.

      +Victor Bruwer What people don't seem to understand is that when Jesus came in the New Testament, he abolished a lot of what the old testament stood for - not all, but a lot. I'm not religious, but I researched it quite a bit.

      They accussed Him of changing things but Jesus really just did things the way they were meant to be from the beginning. We changed and implemented things to fit our limited ideas. He has perfect understanding.

    • @vb2050
      @vb2050 8 лет назад

      I don't really care for a religious debate. In fact, it annoys me.
      Jesus said in Matthew 5:17-18
      17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
      18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
      I (sarcastically) wonder what "Law" He was talking about.
      Certainly it cant mean only the parts that you don't like???
      If i misinterpret these passages then by all means... enlighten me

      to respond to this I'll simply say that
      1. Nate Parker was acquitted and if you look into the case report for the details you will understand why and
      2. the movie is way bigger than Nate Parker. it's a big movie for black people period. so not supporting it for an (incorrect) opinion of him doesn't really do much good..... I'll go a step further say you could hate him and still support the cause and what it stands for

    • @TalkingToAWall
      @TalkingToAWall 8 лет назад +6

      Nat Turner was a slave who was a preacher and educator. he lead a slave revolution where he and the rebellion killed anybody who got in their way.... but to label him a terrorist is very inflammatory and just flat out incorrect. he was a man who led a group of oppressed people who used violent force (which is more than fair). I don't care who you are, if you were unjustly made a slave whatever you do to free yourself is justified

    They are opposing this film saying Nat Turner killed women and children. Yes he did! And the lineage of black woman and children killed before and after this revolt by white supremacist slave owners is astronomical in comparison. #missuswiththat This was a means to an end. I fully support this movie, just as I support holocaust movies, 11 were made last year. Don't fall victim to the slave mentality.

    • @MedranoHijo
      @MedranoHijo 8 лет назад

      So if you know he killed white women and children then why would he approve of Parker having a white wife and playing him on camera?
      I doubt Nat would let that shit slide just because some swirling black man is telling his "hidden" and still disclosed story.
      But since black people thumb up the film all logic and critical thinking goes out the window and they wonder why they can't get up with boycotting and all the other stupid ideas they have, because they love emotional, sensationalism, lies, and entertainment. Period.

    If somebody yells "THIEF!", I don't even flinch; you know why?..because I'm not a thief, so you can't possibly be talking to me.
    But, when somebody even mentions racism, many white people immediately become defensive & start mentioning Irish slavery, European tribal disputes, etc..
    Why become so defensive if YOU don't engage in racist/prejudiced behavior?
    How many white people do you know that were hung from trees as recently as the 1960s, just for being white?
    There are black people alive today that still remember their parents/grandparents being racially abused, physically assaulted, & even murdered/executed, just for being black (these things are STILL happening to a lesser degree today).
    Stop spreading lies about blacks selling blacks to Europeans. If this lie was true, please tell me; what magical currency did Europeans use to pay The Africans with, for their own people?? What use would that currency be to a so-called "primitive" tribes-person?
    Africa is the most mineral/resource rich landmass on Earth; what resource could Europeans bribe them with in the 1600s, that they didn't already possess??
    The truth is, Europeans lied & kidnapped these people by force (hence the need for muskets/guns, nets & iron shackles).
    These people were not taken willingly, hence the weapons, violence & the term 'kidnap'.
    Even if you sold me a dog in prime health, & I beat it, tortured it, worked it to death & then set it on fire. Then imagine, years later, I had the audacity to blame YOU for selling it to me!
    These people are hurting for a reason that many Europeans want to ignore or forget, even though many of these people still feel the effects of this treatment today.......

      SoGladUCame stop with the IGNORANT fallacies & bullshit...no black sold other blacks WITH FREE WILL...
      It was Only because whites used the fact that they had access to guns 1st to COWARDLY rob+rape+plunder unarmed ppl so it was either some blacks helped find & capture other blacks or they were kidnapped themselves & sold. What would u do if a coward has the only gun around & used that fact to threaten ur family unless u helped him.
      P.s.: Don't forget this was the 1st time anybody on the continent ever knew a gun existed due to Africa being surrounded by major oceans on 3 sides & the scorching Sahara up north. So making it hard to mix & mingle with the latest technologies.

But its funny that when you look at the comments for Free State of Jones starring Matthew Mcconaughey (Caucasian), about a Caucasian male leading African American slaves to rebel, people were saying it looks like a great, inspiring film. Now you have a film, directed, written, and starring an African American male about an African American slave leading other African American slaves to rebel so much people spread hate on it. 🤔

I cant help but look at our history and realize that we HUMANS are the cause of all of our most enduring of sufferings. We create the problems, the wars, the poverty, the famine and the biggest disease on this entire planet.
    The plague of humanity. How many species died at the hand of our blade. How many landscapes of pristine nature had to give way so that we filth could populate a speck of land. I despise what humanity was, and in some places still is, but i have hope.
    Hope that one day we will work together to create a type of heaven. Not just for financial gain, but merely for the desire of peace.

      The bible was used to justify slavery and the harsh treatment of black folks by white Christians .

    • @katiewallk1109
      @katiewallk1109 8 лет назад +2

      The Bible does NOT condone the slavery that went on in America. Slaves in the Bible were slaves by choice because they were poor, or they owed a debt they couldn't pay and worked it off. The punishment God gave for kidnapping was DEATH. Some of the Bible was written IN AFRICA. Christianity spread in Africa FIRST, before it came to Europe. So Africans were Christian before whites were. Those white slave owners didn't want the black slaves to learn how to read the Bible for themselves because they would have found all of that out. And that ALL people are of ONE BLOOD. God made us different colors on purpose, and it was meant to be a GIFT. It's sad because it doesn't get treated as such often enough. Even "racists" appreciate the fact that birds, fish, dogs, and other animals come in a variety of colors. But then see different color people and all of a sudden it's a problem. It's clear as day that those slave owners were NOT Christians. They simply found some verses in the Bible they could twist to justify their wickedness. God is not a respecter persons. Jesus is real, He is God. And He gave His life as a ransom for ALL. He is the Saviour of the WHOLE WORLD.

      +Katie Wallk you need to go back and read that bible again .to say slavery in the bible was not like the slavery in American history is BULLSHIT! Let me give you what it says about slavery in that bible .(Leviticus 25:44-46) However you may purchase male and female slaves from foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigner including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property passing them on to your children a permanent inheritance .you may treat your slaves like this .but the people of Israel your relatives must never be treated this way

    • @fashizzle78
      @fashizzle78 8 лет назад

      +Katie Wallk now lets see what it says in the NEW TESTAMENT (Ephesians 6:5) slaves obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear .serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ

    • @fashizzle78
      @fashizzle78 8 лет назад

      +Katie Wallk more from the new testament about slavery .Timothy (6:1-2) Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teachings will not be ashamed if your master is a Christian that is no excuse for being disrespectful..you should work all the harder because you helping another believer by your efforts

This movie really brings things full circle, doesn't it?

    Nat' rebellion killed around 60 or so whites. Black slaves were punished by the hundreds for this. Truly terrifying how much suffering these people had to face just so they can be free. Natural rights: life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Get life and liberty out of the picture, all they had was pursuit of happiness. And they found it in the smallest of things. Their family ties, their endurance, their strength, gave them happiness. The rebellion gave them cause.

    They died just to live free for one day & I get worried when my mobiles power is less than 10%, I'm ashamed of myself for not realising how fortunate I am compared to them.
