The people asking why Jesus is in this movie, and saying this is just some Bible thumping movie have obviously never seen the original movie before. Jesus was in the original Ben Hur too. The book that Ben Hur is based off of is called Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ.
The OG Ben-Hur is untouchable. I hate how you can see Jesus' face in this one. The fact that you don't see his face, but you still knew who he was was a great tool for telling the story of Judah Ben-Hur. This remake is 110% unneeded
With Jack Huston at the helm, I believe this will be a great film. And everyone else is about to know what I've known for a long time now, since Jack's portrayal of Richard Harrow on Boardwalk Empire. The man is a genuine, one-in-a-zillion talent. Cannot wait for Ben -Hur.
Make the peeps talk about your movie...pick the most unfitting music for your trailer. *Done!* _Now let the raving begin, because even bad promotion is promotion._ P.S. They should have used »Yakety Sax« instead. LOL
The best thing about a classic is that no matter how good or bad the reboot is, you can always go back and watch it. I have to say, the marketing for this version is terrible. I was expecting a CW logo when the trailer finished.
I agree, remakes revive a movie from completely being forgotten. It creates renewed interest and intrigues a newer generation of audiences to seek out the original.
Guys, this isn't supposed to be a remake of the '59 version. :s It's just based off the same book. Plus there were other Ben-Hur movies made before the '59 version.
This is the 5th screen version of Lew Wallace's 1880 novel "Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ" The other were released in 1907, 1925, 1959 and 2003. The 1959 film, staring Charlton Heston and winning an incredible 11 Academy Awards, is the one that everyone remembers. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing this 5th take - but knowing that it has huge sandals to fill.
You don't have to be religious to see this movie. I'm not a Christian but I do love the stories and the pure morals of them. They give a message and meaning to it and all it says is spread love and not war but you will always get the ones who are power hungry and use it for fear and ruling.
This trailer is 100000x better than trailer #1. This actually got me at least somewhat motivated for the remake of one of my favorite movies of all friggin time!
This isn't the song from the original trailer people. It's a band led by 2 brothers. Think about how the band playing this song is relevant to this movie.
+wAveURonKiLLcAm "I had no convictions about God or Christ. I neither believed nor disbelieved in them… Yet when the work was fairly begun, I found myself writing reverentially, with awe," Wallace wrote. [Try Google, "bro." Author is Lew Wallace.]
This is just truly sad...the movie looks awful and the music sure as hell didn't help. Why the hell would you remake what is often considered one of the greatest films of all time, that won 11 academy awards. On top of that, why would you get the director of Abraham Vampire Slayer to direct it?!?! Makes no sense...
I know I'm late, but it isn't "make it better " it was "hmm I like this, but I have my own take, so I'm going to do a movie based off of what I got from the book."
No, the original did not get 11 oscars. The original is from 1925. And all three movies are based on a book with the same name from 1880... The Producer of this, Sean Daniel, said: "It's not a remake, it's a retelling or a new interpretation of the book."
spoiler alert ... Geezus didn't die on a cross if he's alive later .. resurrection and gods are myths .... ya know .. for later in life when your brain turns off and nothing happens
You do know that RT doesn't "give" the scores, don't you? And they have many movies with top scores, just not many this year, because this year has been shit on the whole, and this trailer somehow makes it look even worse for later in the year...
Well it's a remake and the law of remakes says there is a 90% chance it will be utter shite, a 8% chance it will be "okay" and a 2%* chance it will be better than the original. *But not in the case of Ben Hur. Move along folks - overdown cgi and terrible dialogue not doubt awaits.
poor direction, poor cinematography choices, and what on earth is up with music choices these days...i've just watched every movie trailer for this year and most of them are using ridiculous pop/hiphop in them :( shame
If you're going to remake a movie like Ben-Hur then it needs to be remade to reflect the majesty of the original. This looks like a telefilm that you could watch on a Saturday afternoon.
This has to be the best trailer I've watched in a long time, love the score also. My Mom used to watch the original every year on tv. Looking forward to watching this one, this time taking my daughter. I hear Jesus is shown a lot more in this one which makes it more moving and powerful. Can't wait!
I see your point. The Romans were on another level, but today's Romans are different from yesterday's Romans, and it's in the past. Plus not a lot of people are aware of just how cruel they could be.
+Mario88881000 my point exactly. if people are going to hate jews for irrational reasons they should feel the same about Romans as well. it's ridiculous.
Morgan Freeman movies never disappoint. Apart from being just an actor he's the best movie director i have known besides he's speech intelligence .the movie shows the other side of Jesus' story.SURELY THE BEST. WAITING FOR THE NEXT MOVIE OF HIS
It looks good. Have you seen Son Of God? That one is great too. Biblical movies are improving drastically lately (except for that garbage that were "Noah" from 2013 and "Exodus" from 2014).
I don't think they are worried about doing justice to the older version. I think they're more focused on the book (although it looks like Judah gets trained by Sheik Ilderim instead of getting trained in Rome, Jesus has a bit of a bigger part and from the other trailers it looks like their is going to be a sex scene).
Well...no one is perfect. Least of all me. But I'd rather sound arrogant than stupid. Which is not my way of saying that you sound stupid. (No sarcasm)
I think it could be good, but the music makes it seem like a super Christian movies. Not like an educational one, just one of those "See how dumb you have all been for not believing." and a big pat on the back for those who do believe. If you get what I mean. What I'm saying is you can make a historical christian movie without seeming condescending. The music I think kinda makes this film seem like the condescending kind.
"Well....it's kind of a very known plot..." I've still never seen the original. For a long time I just knew there was some movie with Charlton Heston set it Roman times called "Ben Hur" which involved a famous chariot race. I doubt most people under the age of 40 have ever seen the original movie and I would say very few people have read the book.
I'm not 40 and knew it. It's like the wizard of oz, or gone with the wind, they're classics. Even the simpsons made a joke about that movie. I'm sorry if that trailer spoiled the fun for you, and I definetely hate overexplaining trailers. But on this case, I can understand why they did it.
I don't care about 80s and Ghosbutsters. Ben Hur is my classic. And I find this crap offensive. " You could stick a woman in the lead role of Ben-Hur and nobody but the christian community would bother commenting about it." Sure. christian community is very friendly. Just like gaming community, or star wars community. Those never exploded because of female leads.
They are just lazy. As a script writer, I know they have piles and piles of scripts waiting to be discovered. I just don't understand why they are destroying such a classic Oscar worthy film with this garbage remake

from what I've heard warcraft is good as long as your not a critic for a living. basically if your a human being that still has a soul thats not sold to rotten tomatoes
"My life, I give it of my own free will."
Powerful stuff.
Anybody who has their life narrated by Morgan Freeman is lucky to get their life narrated by Morgan Freeman
World record yield and this movie looks cool.
+Cum decore Fortisimo yeah it is linked on my channel
I knew a girl named Morgan Freeman.
+Oliver Welch and her life was narrated by Morgan freeman
fred long No double entendre there because her name was Morgan Freeman.
The people asking why Jesus is in this movie, and saying this is just some Bible thumping movie have obviously never seen the original movie before. Jesus was in the original Ben Hur too. The book that Ben Hur is based off of is called Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ.
Yes, but in the original it was tasteful, in this movie its just bad.

✔ why Hollywood?
this guy is so right.
By OG, do you mean the 1907 short or the 1925 feature?
Obscene Vegetable Matter I mean the movie with Chartlon Heston
*****
Is that "OG" remake more untouchable than the 1925 version?
The OG is the book from 1880.
People are complaining about the music choice. If you listen to the lyrics, it fits perfectly. Lol.
Prince of Egypt + Passion of Christ + Gladiator + Cast Away
+ Morgan Freeman of course
+ZomboDroid *God
lol
Or maybe the original movie?
I feel a little of Prince of Persia vibe in here too!

Yeah, I could just dust off my Ben Hur (1959) DVD and watch that.
F this movie.
Hollywood is not suckering my $10
You have a DVD from 1959? Cool.
Doc and Marty left it back in 1959. Damn McFly's.
wildevil
Ha :D
Correction: They went to 1955:)
+SusantheRestorer :D true
I think this looks like a really good movie. The song used in the trailer is BEAUTIFULLY intertwined with the events that is happening in the trailer.
why is the music from the fault in our stars in a trailer about Jerusalem Fast and The Furious: slavery edition
***** LOL
Make the peeps talk about your movie...pick the most unfitting music for your trailer.
*Done!*
_Now let the raving begin, because even bad promotion is promotion._
P.S. They should have used »Yakety Sax« instead. LOL
that shouldve been the title
You've won the internet today, my friend. Congratulations.
HAHAHAHA!! This made my day!!
Weirdest perfume advert ever
Yes, the tagline would be...
Ben Hur: I smell like a camel.
I thought it was a condom commercial. Ben Hur: Tap Like a Camel
Oh shit you made it sexual, so clever....moron.
It's neither it's a Fiji water commercial advertised by Jesus
Amazing haha
Looks like they are about to DESTROY a classical movie!
The best thing about a classic is that no matter how good or bad the reboot is, you can always go back and watch it. I have to say, the marketing for this version is terrible. I was expecting a CW logo when the trailer finished.
no they are rebuilding the classic back to life like every good movies should be
I agree, remakes revive a movie from completely being forgotten. It creates renewed interest and intrigues a newer generation of audiences to seek out the original.
in a terrible way
Amirali Ghaznavi nope in a great way
Guys, this isn't supposed to be a remake of the '59 version. :s It's just based off the same book. Plus there were other Ben-Hur movies made before the '59 version.

Morgan Freeman is a great actor.
I'm so excited for this movie!!
he is my fav actor
Yes he is!
Dude change ur profile pic jesus
Not even he will have the strength to prop up this stupid film.
LOL at the music choice.
+Manuela6544 girl He said the song sucked in case you didn't noticed
whats song is this?
Takns, só mutch
+Manuela6544 girl you're *
Can u give me the song's name
You don't have to be religious to see this movie. I'm not a Christian but I do love the stories and the pure morals of them. They give a message and meaning to it and all it says is spread love and not war but you will always get the ones who are power hungry and use it for fear and ruling.
To all the negativity in the comments, art is subjective.
In 1960 Ben-Hur wins 11 Academy Awards this new version got big shoes to fill.
This trailer is 100000x better than trailer #1. This actually got me at least somewhat motivated for the remake of one of my favorite movies of all friggin time!
DAMN! I never thought id see Morgan Freeman with dreadlocks XD
putting pop songs in trailers for historical-based movies = sucks.
stop hating
It's not a "pop" song, it's a contemporary Christian song. Does no one like it? Seriously?
I think you answered your own question.
pop stands for popular ahyuck
It wasn't a popular song at all before this came out.
This isn't the song from the original trailer people. It's a band led by 2 brothers. Think about how the band playing this song is relevant to this movie.
I can’t believe it’s been 4 years and I believe that this movie is good and give it 10/10 stars ⭐️
The guy who wrote the original Ben Hur was an atheist who wanted to prove God didn't exist but became a believer himself in the process.
that's actually a cool story... bro 😉
Doesn't mean he became religious.
+DEVRIMCI2007 he didn't become religious. He became a Christian. There's a huge difference if you search for answers.
Ben-Hur is such a classic. I don't know how I feel about a remake, but it looks pretty cool. Minus the pop song for the trailer.
i can't wait for Citizen Kane Remake
I want a Sequel/Spin-Off
Right? "Let's redo Titanic. I'm sure we can get more Oscars than last time."
Ploon72 actually there is Titanic movies before James Cameron one Titanic 1943
Titanic 1953 and A Night to Remember 1958
Oh my god. What scares me about this comment is the actual possibility of that happening.
***** Welcome to Hollywood where we Remake Reboot more movies than we make original films the past Decade and a half
I still don't think Ben-Hur needs to be remade, but...this trailer gives me a peak at a movie that may just do it justice,
This is just truly sad...the movie looks awful and the music sure as hell didn't help. Why the hell would you remake what is often considered one of the greatest films of all time, that won 11 academy awards. On top of that, why would you get the director of Abraham Vampire Slayer to direct it?!?! Makes no sense...
This is giving me real Prince of Egypt vibes, looks good :)
Cinematographer: Watcha want, boss?
Director: Give me something to piss off Emmanuel Lubezki
Cinematographer: Say no more...
You can't say this movie is a crap. It's Morgan Freeman people, everything he touches turns to gold.
The original 50's Ben Hurr is still the best
Can't shake this strange feeling... that I've Ben-Hur before.
They take an 11 oscar winning movie and they're like ''Let's make it better'' ?
ffs...
I know I'm late, but it isn't "make it better " it was "hmm I like this, but I have my own take, so I'm going to do a movie based off of what I got from the book."
This movie was so incredible. Definitely a must see
Whyy??? The original got 11 oscars, the most academy awards ever achieved, why a remake??
No, the original did not get 11 oscars. The original is from 1925. And all three movies are based on a book with the same name from 1880... The Producer of this, Sean Daniel, said: "It's not a remake, it's a retelling or a new interpretation of the book."
Tied with return of the king actually
Why not?
Money.
H. Conrad Still the most academy awards ever achieved
You can't remake greatness , this movie will never live up to the original
Spoiler Alert: Jesus dies on a cross, then comes back alive
Nooooooooo

+Phil Verhey someone is salty and ignorant
+Phil Verhey chill
I predict 17% on Rotten Tomatoes, and nominated for 10 Razzies.
17% is being too nice
well considering rotten tomatoes always gives bad scores....this actually looks like a good remake
You do know that RT doesn't "give" the scores, don't you?
And they have many movies with top scores, just not many this year, because this year has been shit on the whole, and this trailer somehow makes it look even worse for later in the year...
I dont really allow critics to decide what's good and what's not. That's up to me and Santa Claus.
Why does this look 'made-for-tv'
aye aye aye, they prolly paid good money for Morgan Freeman so that's where all the budget went. lol!
+Patryk Wieczorek (moramento22) yeah direction n finesse could have bn better
Because it will suck. Someone should apologize to Charlton Heston's memory.
Because your eyes don't work right
poor direction, poor cinematography choices, and what on earth is up with music choices these days...i've just watched every movie trailer for this year and most of them are using ridiculous pop/hiphop in them :( shame
Great remake of a classic movie. A must watch.
I got a fricking BEN HUR AD BEFORE THE VIDEO!
If you're going to remake a movie like Ben-Hur then it needs to be remade to reflect the majesty of the original. This looks like a telefilm that you could watch on a Saturday afternoon.
Looks like a made for tv bible thumping propaganda ripoff of gladiator.
And that music...
or maybe its just a remake of the original?!
Its a scene to scene remake of the original.
its the remake of Ben Hur
it so wrong what was one direction too busy I expect at one point the Bieber to pop squawking maybe on the cross lol
Or maybe it's just a pointless remake of one of the most celebrated films of all time.
Much better trailer than the first one! Looking forward to seeing it.
Morgan Freeman looks like a melted max sculpture of Bob Marley in this.
klove radio station brought me here, gonna go see the movie tonight! God bless everyone and spread love.
bad music choice
I think the song sounded good, but not for this trailer. Way out of place.
So you agreed with the original comment... your comment makes no sense why comment at all...
yah
KOMOSKY Some people would say that saying that a comment is pointless, is in itself pointless. So why did you do it?
same
This has to be the best trailer I've watched in a long time, love the score also. My Mom used to watch the original every year on tv. Looking forward to watching this one, this time taking my daughter. I hear Jesus is shown a lot more in this one which makes it more moving and powerful. Can't wait!
It's complete oposite.
Ben Hur remake? What next Lawrence of Arabia?
Jason and the Argonauts with full on CGI... :)
I would actually want a Lawrence of Arabia remake
+Peter Krantz NOOO
This doesn't look too bad. That being said, doesn't look that great as well. Just okay. It'll be better than Ghostbusters at least.
Bryce Birkinbine Everything is better than Ghostbusters
RUclips shows 15 second ad for Ben-Hur before watching a full trailer for the same movie
the Roman's were viscious...I'm surprised they aren't hated in today's time for what they did.
I see your point. The Romans were on another level, but today's Romans are different from yesterday's Romans, and it's in the past. Plus not a lot of people are aware of just how cruel they could be.
hmmm... hate modern italians for the horrible things that people whom inhabited the same geographical area did 2000 years ago...enlighted!!!
+Mario88881000 my point exactly. if people are going to hate jews for irrational reasons they should feel the same about Romans as well. it's ridiculous.
@@angelinai.8770 not all I meme there is good and evil but Romans had stoic philosophers
I was really surprised with this one. I expected it would totally suck, but it was actually pretty nice.
Morgan Freeman movies never disappoint. Apart from being just an actor he's the best movie director i have known besides he's speech intelligence .the movie shows the other side of Jesus' story.SURELY THE BEST. WAITING FOR THE NEXT MOVIE OF HIS
Another classic for the ages. A must see for us all. I'll be pre ordering my tickets
This looks incredible. Been a while since a biblical adaptation looked this good
This is actually a remake, go watch the 1959 version (also a remake actually), it's quite long but really good!
So this would be a re-remake?
It looks good. Have you seen Son Of God? That one is great too. Biblical movies are improving drastically lately (except for that garbage that were "Noah" from 2013 and "Exodus" from 2014).
Yeah, so what, I grew the largest autoflower. I love games and movies.
Check out the Gospel of John, was so beautifully made and the casting looked ethnically accurate too, plus spoken in Aramaic.
If this comes close to the original I'll be surprised, shocked.. but delighted.
Ben Hur 2016 featuring, Morgan Freeman, Jack Huston and Jesus
Morgan Freeman with dreadlocks just cracks me up!
who the hell mixed that kinda music into this trailer should be FIRED
I didn't hear an epic colosal music for good movie like this one!
it was actually a good movie
1:39 So this is where Euron Greyjoy was all this while when he was 'gallivanting' away from the Iron Isles.
you killed me :D
I'm very much scared that this movie won't do any justice to the older version.
I don't think they are worried about doing justice to the older version. I think they're more focused on the book (although it looks like Judah gets trained by Sheik Ilderim instead of getting trained in Rome, Jesus has a bit of a bigger part and from the other trailers it looks like their is going to be a sex scene).
So they are looking in to making it more accurate to the book. But my concern is will this be as good a the older version.
Thank you god how am I still here to experience this heaven is real ❤❤😊😊
"can we all just agree that the third one is always worst?"
Oh, an intelligent person that actually knows that this is the third attemt to make a movie from the book! Glad to meet you, sir!
So am I 👍it's rare to find our kind on internet
It is fourth. There was also TV movie adaptation like 10 years ago. Far from old classic but watchable.
+goran77ish YES!!! Finally a TRULY intelligent person! Haha (sarcasm to show those other guys how crazy and arrogant they sound)
Well...no one is perfect. Least of all me. But I'd rather sound arrogant than stupid. Which is not my way of saying that you sound stupid. (No sarcasm)
para los que ya vieron el ben-hur original, podrán ver que tan solo en el tráiler queda mucho a deber
Why?!??! Just remaster the 1959 version and people will go see it!!! Not this garbage heap!!!! :(
Almost nobody would go see it.
Nobody would see the 1959 version this movie is necessary
martin arbelaez yea but it doesn't look good...the 59 is a masterpiece
I believe it's on Blu-ray and let me say it looks like a film from that was made in the 90's
+Deebo Molina Ben-Hur (1959) Was truly phenomenal and still has up to this day. I wonder if this will be as long as the the 59 film.
I especially love the scene Jesus gives Ben Hur water!
Terrible music choice
Couldn't agree more!
Why is it every one of this trailers need a (badly placed) modern pop song in the background I prefer to go back to good old inception bang days
+Sabrina I agree
I thought it was original actually. Then again, I might be bias because it has always been my favorite song. But I still think its really good.
The story was so Beautiful.
They like...literally just showed the entire plot???
Well....it's kind of a very known plot...
"Well....it's kind of a very known plot..."
I've still never seen the original. For a long time I just knew there was some movie with Charlton Heston set it Roman times called "Ben Hur" which involved a famous chariot race. I doubt most people under the age of 40 have ever seen the original movie and I would say very few people have read the book.
+jliller you should see the 1959 one, it's one of the best movies ever.
agree look up the 1959 movie ...rainy Sunday movie
I'm not 40 and knew it. It's like the wizard of oz, or gone with the wind, they're classics. Even the simpsons made a joke about that movie.
I'm sorry if that trailer spoiled the fun for you, and I definetely hate overexplaining trailers. But on this case, I can understand why they did it.
A mix of faith, action and more ACTION! and morgan freeman. Great Movie!
It's was a nice movie ....quite short though
The original was and still is amazing , I hope the remake does it justice .
why is this movie less hated than ghostbusters remake?
The answer you seek lies in the swedish original title of Stieg Larsson's first Millennium book.
+brobbus0 all I can tell is that he's including Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
Because this one is actually a tale of redemption, based in a historical era when Jews were persecuted by the Roman Empire.
You make it sound like Back to the Future and Ben-Hur are in the same league as far as film quality. They aren't.
pas84av2
They certainly are not. BTTF is a masterpiece with one of the tightest scripts ever written. Teehee.
never heard of this until now and the movie looks great I'll see it
This remake looks truly terrible.
But people don't care, cause it doesn't have women in leading roles.
Benhur 1959
Ghostbuster 1986
???
That would be great, actually.
I don't care about 80s and Ghosbutsters. Ben Hur is my classic. And I find this crap offensive.
" You could stick a woman in the lead role of Ben-Hur and nobody but the christian community would bother commenting about it."
Sure. christian community is very friendly. Just like gaming community, or star wars community. Those never exploded because of female leads.
I hope it makes all the money and we will see more female-lead movies.
World record yield and this movie looks cool.
It's unbelievable how bad this movie looks. Complete train wreck right there.
That background music is on point!
hollywood is out of fresh ideas? 😞
rhetorical question?
We established that years ago
Nothing new there....
They are just lazy. As a script writer, I know they have piles and piles of scripts waiting to be discovered. I just don't understand why they are destroying such a classic Oscar worthy film with this garbage remake
Leonardo Baez you should watch Yugoslavian movies!
Walter defend Sarajevo
We are not Angeles
Balkans spy
Montevideo God saw you
St George kills dragon...
Why is Hollywood remaking all the classics? Few people are interested in remakes of movies like Ben-Hur. If this movie doesn't bomb, I'll be shocked.
Jesus confirmed!
Lol!
Spoiler: He dies!
Spoiler : He is raised again
Will this movie lead me to be a Christian?
***** Spoiler: Than he goes on a long...long vacation.
Very nice movies 😮
Simplesmente amei, não me canso de assistir esse trailer.
Hollywood forgot how to make epic movies.
What is up with the trailers' song choices nowadays?!
In the middle of scenes of horror, violence and death that we so love to see in a film, one man says "No."
This is terrible. The actors, I'm unsure what nationality they are suppose to be. This is like Coldplay set to the Bible.
WTF f*** this movie
Morgan Freeman is Black pretty obvious and if Ben-Hur is from jerusalem you can assume he's middle eastern obviously Jesus is middle eastern and the Roman guys are mostly european from Italy we can presume.
if your looking for nationality in a film set thousands of years ago your not gonna find it as most of these countries dont exist anymore.
jjaylewin
not what I said at all I said those nationalities dont exist anymore very different to what your saying. anyway how many prominent actors can you say are actually good enough to be in this movie and the appropriate race cause lets face it thats what your saying the problem is.
Still watching this in the cinema but i will re-watch the original first
Looks like a decent movie, music wasn't that terrible!
I know this remake is terrible but the scene where Ben-Hur brought a fallen and wounded Jesus water is just utterly touching. And when Jesus stopped him from throwing a stone at the Roman soldier os tearjerking.
Bad music score for this movie. Really takes you out of the immersion of the film.
Why is everybody hating on the music?? I liked it.
The 1959 film is excellent. This looks ok in the trailer but that music was awful.
This is really going to get people psyched for the Citizen Kane remake in 2017.
I'd fire my agent and manager if i were Toby Kebbell or people will start associating you with shit like this.
Sad, he is great actor. First Fant4stick, then Warcraft and now this. Tho, I love Warcraft but you have to know that universe to love the movie.
He needs to hire Jia Courtney's Agent. He's in everything.
from what I've heard warcraft is good as long as your not a critic for a living. basically if your a human being that still has a soul thats not sold to rotten tomatoes
+goran77ish Not necessarily. I enjoyed "Warcraft" and I've never played any of the games.
The old classic Ben Hur was wayyyy better
