History of the Modoc tribe, Native Americans

Modoc and Siskiyou counties in northeastern California, as well as Ottawa County in the northeastern corner of Oklahoma, are home to the Modoc Nation, a federally recognized tribe of Modoc people. They are the state's smallest indigenous group and trace their ancestry back to the Modoc Wars, which led to their forced removal from their homelands in southern Oregon and northern California in 1873.
