I appreciate your British stiff upper lip and humor…😂…especially to those who complain…😂. I a first thought you borrowed the space dish to focus your signal..😊! 73!
Glad you use kilometres so us Aussies can get an idea of the distances you are talking about without having to reach for the calculator. Keep up the good work.
Bloody hell mate, you walked 200km that`s radio dedication for you right there, hope you had plenty of banging drum and bass to keep you two going - - - - - - - 🙂
I absolutely love the added info about the history and the fab pics of the area. Part of what makes radio fun is knowing a little bit about the history of the area you're in, IMHO.
Hi not commented before, all very interesting and good to see thanks. I suppose that that this is the new packet radio message system. I used this years ago and remember hoping though nodes to send and receive messages as a licenced radio armature. I saw your comment on Km being used. I would agree with the other person, we live in the UK where all of our signs are in miles I feel rather proud of that we hung onto this from the EU. Cheers 73.
I love the combination of history, tech, and long views and music. Don’t change anything Lewis. What an amazing spot that was too, and great day for it.
By far the most interesting part of this for me is how far/broad the coverage is including the maximum possible number of nodes/hops, seeing the practical maximum distance you can currently reach in your area is extremely cool. Part of me hopes there will be a day where you could reasonably expect to reach most of the UK if you wanted to
Some people!! I love castles and rock formations, we dont see enough of them on radio channels. Thank you Lewis for shining a light on their being terriby forgotten in the radio world! Some great views can be had for many kilometres! Thank you again 😁👍
Great video, thanks! I really enjoyed your interspersing the technical data with still shots and drone footage which gives an idea of your operating conditions as well as the beautiful scenery. More please! 👍
Yup, I head up to Sedgely Beacon and it's possible to get Stafford and Clee each a single hop away. We're a couple of well placed nodes and better routing algorthim away from covering 90% of the population.
Love the castle B roll, really makes the video. 200Km walk to the trig!!! what route did you take? 🤣😂 Great video as usual Mate and some amazing results on such low power.
I was about to comment on the 200km walk but you beat me to it. (Maybe you really should stick to imperial units Lewis.) Keep up the great work everyone, even if some of the technicalities are over my head.
Thank you for all the radio videos. They are enjoyable. Here is a thought for you. When there is colder air over warmer water, one can get radio ducting propagation. This will provide extended range. Both ends can be at sea level. Fog is a good indicator for this effect. Your map shows you are near the shore. Checking the weather and water temperature is a good way to see if effect is likely to occur. I like the scenery. Please keep showing the castles.
Thanks Lewis. Fired up for the arrival of my Heltec V3 on Tuesday as per your recommendation. @7:24 Some Yagi! Why so many directors? Have you thought of putting your Meshtastic on the drone and getting height that way?
90km, that's like twelve miles, right? LOL, just kdding! Seriously, I can't imagine getting mad at you for anything on this channel. Thanks for all the videos!
It's amazing how some folk complain... I've a RUclips channel too and it's hard work to keep it factual and interesting what you do is above and beyond so ignore those folk they are just castle haters.... lol
Sweet! DCM is using one the nodes I built, was chatting to him from South Wales too, while he was there was seeing a lot more from up north down here too! Thats 2x 100km hops!
Absolutely beautiful terrain. I want to live in rural places again. The serenity and calmness is unparalleled. As I’ve learnt, back in my home town they now even serve 5G. Hah, best of both worlds. Feels just like a year ago when slow ADSL was all we got.
Some friends an I are working on a mesh network to cover our entire state in the US. we've got about 35% of the whole state, no not Rhode Island either, we're in the midwest.
It’s pretty amazing to see that these small radios can connect and talk over such a long distance while my wireless mics at my work can’t even maintain a steady connection over 70 meters 😅😅 Greetings from Germany ;)
Use to go up Mow Cop in the early 90s with a CB. That brought back memories! I might get a Meshtastic. I'll have to have a look at what's the best one for me. A bit of research I think...
Love it! Trollers gonna hate lol. I’ve gotten over 50km on 433mhz. 915mhz is a bit flakey and many people don’t know it here in Australia so the game is slowly taking traction much slower than many other countries 😊
Between the great shots, the fantastic choices in music and the interesting locations, I really want to make radio contact with the UK at some point. The next step after that is going over to transmit and make contacts from the UK. Cheers from KD9SXA.
😂😂 way to give it to those morons who's life is so bad they have to complain about absolutely nothing! Love you videos. I'm very curious about off grid comms here in London Ontario Canada. I'm not sure if it's any different with the laws regarding radio here but I'm looking into it. Keep up the good work!!!
I'm Steve G4FAB - I used to speak to Chris's Dad Brian G8HCB in the 70's when I lived in Wigan. There was loads of activity on 2m then when the Liner 2 SSB rig hit the market. They were great times. I've just started playing with Meshtastic, but not much doing here in Bingham East of Nottingham. Hopefully I can generate some interest! The amateur antennas seen at 7.25 could belong to G3OHH?
Great location, spent many days up there You can see my old house from there, 5K West Rode Heath There is/was 3 Amateurs up there 1 with p60 Versatower by the PMR Masts but no antennas..??, 1 directly behind with a HF Beam, and another with a Collinear Would be a Good Location for Meshtastic Device in Repeater Mode
Anyone know what the background colours of the shortnames in the node list on the Android app are supposed to signify? I have nodes listed in green, cyan, and orange. Is it the number of hops between me and them? SNR? Something else?
Hmm, that's got me thinking. I wonder if you could stand about 10 miles apart from each other, with Jodrell bank forming a triangle. Then use directional Yagi's to bounce a signal off the dish?
I meant walked 200m not km 😂 had km on the brain!
I was just about to message you about that 😂😊
lol, just was thinking that, camp to the comments to see if i heard right :)
its easier not to reply to negativity sometimes.
I gathered 😂, that is on my list for trigs on the air.
I appreciate your British stiff upper lip and humor…😂…especially to those who complain…😂.
I a first thought you borrowed the space dish to focus your signal..😊!
73!
"Just to annoy you now", and then the castles !!!! I'm loving unfiltered Ringway.
I 100% am sure it was some American twat. And this is coming from an American. :P Some of us really just need to learn how to shut the fuck up. 🙄
Came for long range, stayed for the good old fashion sass
Gives Rick Astley a run for his money any day.
This is priceless xD
I quite like the history and extra bits of info!
Yeah, take no heed of the haters, the castle shots are great!
Glad you use kilometres so us Aussies can get an idea of the distances you are talking about without having to reach for the calculator. Keep up the good work.
I really enjoy your channel but it must be said that the intro to this one had me in stitches. Keep up the excellent work, sir. 👍
Bloody hell mate, you walked 200km that`s radio dedication for you right there, hope you had plenty of banging drum and bass to keep you two going - - - - - - - 🙂
Haha how little people know yes 90km is bloody awesome for 120mw maximum power out of the radios
90Kms is fine, but I want to see who’s running the Titties node 😊
I love the bit about the castle
0:56 dammit Ringway! I just woke half the house I laughed so hard😂
I love these castle shots!
I absolutely love the added info about the history and the fab pics of the area. Part of what makes radio fun is knowing a little bit about the history of the area you're in, IMHO.

0:29 things EXACTLY the bullshittery i like in my radio content consumption. 🤘🏻🤣
You are outstanding Lewis! Keep up the excellent work! Don't change a thing.
I appreciate that!
I love the combination of history, tech, and long views and music. Don’t change anything Lewis. What an amazing spot that was too, and great day for it.
Excellent video as always. Thanks for sharing the project!

Great drone footage and range test!
That castle B roll caught me off guard. Hilarious, had me laughing. Keep up the great content.
0:40 Hahahahaha I needed that laugh, nice one.
Hey siri, define cheeky.
“now playing, Ringway Manchester” 😂
The guys on Clee Hill are regularly able to reach Bristol and Somerset, so there's potential for a whopping mesh if the stars align.
Yup, I head up to Sedgely Beacon and it's possible to get Stafford and Clee each a single hop away. We're a couple of well placed nodes and better routing algorthim away from covering 90% of the population.
Thanks for another great video, & love the sense of humour....
You've got a great eye for those beautiful views thanks for admiring them and sharing them with us.
Glad you like them! Thanks
Love the castle B roll, really makes the video. 200Km walk to the trig!!! what route did you take? 🤣😂 Great video as usual Mate and some amazing results on such low power.

I know what a gaffe! 😂❤️
*km
You must have passed a few pubs on the 200Km wall. Which poses the question: How many Kms to a pint ??
You should mount your Mestastic transmitter on your drone and have it go a high as possible when on your high spot.
0:28 80 kilometers is about 50 miles for those of you watching in black and white.
😂😂😂

I love ducting. i live near the North Sea in Holland. in the summer, HAMS from the UK are extremely loud on UHF thanks to Ducting.
I like the Metric system.
I dont
Awesome content as always. The scenery was breathtaking.
Can we have more on that castle please..... I can't get enough of it!! haha! 🙂 Keep up the good work Lewis.
Thanks Lewis. Fired up for the arrival of my Heltec V3 on Tuesday as per your recommendation. @7:24 Some Yagi! Why so many directors? Have you thought of putting your Meshtastic on the drone and getting height that way?
You WIN all the Intros, Lewis..!!!! 😂👍
90km, that's like twelve miles, right? LOL, just kdding! Seriously, I can't imagine getting mad at you for anything on this channel. Thanks for all the videos!
I'm starting to get the feeling you really like these comms. 😁👍
Wonderfull pictures!
Greats from Berlin, Germany!!!
Hehehe
99% of us love your videos Lewis, keep them coming , miles or Km 😂
Best start to any of you're videos 😂👍 brilliant. Keep you the great work!!
Great videos as always - thumbs up for the castle shots 😂
It's amazing how some folk complain... I've a RUclips channel too and it's hard work to keep it factual and interesting what you do is above and beyond so ignore those folk they are just castle haters.... lol
Loved the video footage. Thank you.
Brilliant as always! Thank you!
Hey, This channel was founded on shots of the English countryside and random radio towers. It's what I subscribed for! The music is pretty good too.
Brilliant visuals and audio - tastic !
Lovely drone shot through the archway.
Sweet! DCM is using one the nodes I built, was chatting to him from South Wales too, while he was there was seeing a lot more from up north down here too! Thats 2x 100km hops!
Come for the comms, stay for the castle.
Absolutely beautiful terrain. I want to live in rural places again. The serenity and calmness is unparalleled.
As I’ve learnt, back in my home town they now even serve 5G. Hah, best of both worlds. Feels just like a year ago when slow ADSL was all we got.
From Potato Pc IRL to a Rave castle, today is a great day for funny videos by tech youtbers.
Just gained my subscription for the way you dealt with the haters. Also cause great content
I really enjoyed the bit about castles.
I love the radio kingdom. Thanks.. again as usual 👍😎📡📻
Haha! more castles please! love your channel! now I'm just waiting for some meshtasicles in zürich, switzerland.
0:34 PRICELESS!
Thank you for making me laugh so hard!
BTW for us in the USA... 80KM ~ 50MI
Best vid you've done in a minute mate.
Some friends an I are working on a mesh network to cover our entire state in the US. we've got about 35% of the whole state, no not Rhode Island either, we're in the midwest.
Come for the LoRa, stay for the castle.
Great video and content. Thank You
Omg omg omg lolololol 0:47 😂
Love this content!
Let's go! Extend the range, grow the grid.
Love the vid Lewis
Haha great to see 2 of my nodes in the list 😂 . Nice work
Love the intro. You should call out comment cabbages every video 😂
It’s pretty amazing to see that these small radios can connect and talk over such a long distance while my wireless mics at my work can’t even maintain a steady connection over 70 meters 😅😅
Greetings from Germany ;)
I had no idea about meshtastic until I saw your videos. I just ordered a pair this morning.
Use to go up Mow Cop in the early 90s with a CB. That brought back memories! I might get a Meshtastic. I'll have to have a look at what's the best one for me. A bit of research I think...
Love the chaotic and petty era 🎉❤
Love the Irony and humour lol
It's lovely country around there, I'll have to visit sometime.
I am enjoying Meshtastic much more than ham radio at the moment. Will have a portable node set up to try on higher ground very soon.
Castles...am fuming! 😹
Loving the spoop posting (:
Amazing drone footage. Stunning….. what are you using?? I’m interested into a drone but so many options.
Love it! Trollers gonna hate lol.
I’ve gotten over 50km on 433mhz. 915mhz is a bit flakey and many people don’t know it here in Australia so the game is slowly taking traction much slower than many other countries 😊
nice rock at 8:10 - theres even a tree on it!
I love a good troll!
You should do the distance measurements in either leagues or Klingon kellicams, just to annoy that person even further. 😂
Between the great shots, the fantastic choices in music and the interesting locations, I really want to make radio contact with the UK at some point. The next step after that is going over to transmit and make contacts from the UK. Cheers from KD9SXA.

The amateur antennas seen at 7.25 could belong to G3OHH?
Awesome! Greetings from Germany.
Way to go, I love castles.
I approve of your trolling. Feel free to include more of your DnB intro music. It's a good tune.
Some good views there nice one sir
Great video lewis .....I will join one day😂
You should show us a few more castle ruins every now and then to be honest. Since they can be found at high points, why not?
You do a great job, some people are very ignorant, 80km on 10mw is great!
Great video and stick to the haters keep the good work❤😂🎉
Mate, I love KMs and how you deal with the haters 😂
Great location, spent many days up there
You can see my old house from there, 5K West Rode Heath
There is/was 3 Amateurs up there
1 with p60 Versatower by the PMR Masts but no antennas..??,
1 directly behind with a HF Beam, and another with a Collinear
Would be a Good Location for Meshtastic Device in Repeater Mode
Anyone know what the background colours of the shortnames in the node list on the Android app are supposed to signify? I have nodes listed in green, cyan, and orange. Is it the number of hops between me and them? SNR? Something else?
I just watched the first minute of your video and I already love it! 🤣👍😜
Glad to hear it! 😂👍🏻
Fun fact, there is line of sight between Mow Cop and mount Snowdon's (Yr Wyddfa) summit.
I could see mow cop from here but didn’t dare include a castle again 😂
Is Mechtastic the next geocaching where it is actually more about going out to cool remote places then messing with technology?
"I'm so deeply deeply sorr"
Love this type of content mate I would love to see mote like it not just meshtastic but amatuer and pmr446
This year for sure
