What drives me nuts is when i lane split to the front at a red light and i move into the right lane infront and the car gets offended and moves up to my rear wheel and when the light turns green they try to pass me . I dont understand
Super helpful video. Was teasing the California motorcycle handbook and it hardly even mentions filtering and does not say anything about what you mentioned. Wanted some clarification and this video was perfect
One question. When you are filtering at a light and your waiting in the front between cars. When you take off do you try to get in front into a lane immediately? How does that play out
@nsquezada27 when I filter on surface streets I typically pull up infront of the first cars. When it's time to go I stay in the middle until I see it's clear to get into a lane. Good question!
Also, watch out for cars with out of state plates. Not that it happens all the time but the few times that I've been given a hard time by some Karen behind the wheel from filtering, they were in cars with out of state plates and don't likely know that filtering is legal here in CA. CA natives are super cool, reward them with a thumbs up when they make a little more room.
What about a two-lane road? Had a motorcyclists freak off on me because I was driving to the left on a mountain road to avoid tree branches. Also there was no on coming traffic.
I’m interested in learning how to ride a motorcycle so eventually I can ride one to work. I’m thinking of getting a Monkey! Any tips on a motorcycle for freeway? I’m 5’4”
ill take the shoulder in a heart beat lol. done it lots of times and havent got in trouble yet lol i only do it when the traffic is stopped, my bike is air cooled not gonna let it sit there and melt in traffic lol
Funny, I do the rest except that. Two reasons I don't like to. Sometimes the light turns green on your way up and there's nowhere to go or I do make it to the front and the first cars will try to pass me and take over the lane
Motorcycle was my only mode of transportation for many years. I don't trust "cagers" (as you call them) when I am behind or in front of them at a good distance. Why the hell would you ever think it is safe to get so near them while at speeds where you could die? Sorry but I see no reason for lane splitting. If lane splitting was originally intended for air-cooled bikes and for safety reasons (It makes no sense for a bike to be caught in an auto traffic jam when they can easily escape it), I honestly think the emergency lane should be the only lane allowed and at reduced speed. I am 57 now. No longer ride after losing three friends to motorcycle crashes. Lane splitting is extremely startling when in a car and dangerous AF on a bike, no matter what you claim about escape routes. I can't believe it's allowed. I used to try and justify the right not to wear a helmet but the facts are, it's stupid not to. Same goes for lane splitting. Just not a great idea, but hey you do you and hope you don't go down like those that I knew.
I actually found out that it was legal between any lanes when I had my accident splitting lanes last October. I honestly thought I was going to be considered at fault because I wasn't splitting between the #1 and #2 lane. I was all the way on the right, which for that highway, was I think #5 and #6 lane. Probably not the smartest thing I've done but I came out unharmed and the driver's insurance covered everything, so, it wasn't all bad. The driver was considered at fault because she suddenly closed, which caused me to react with panic brake and low side the bike. The sad part was that car never actually touched my bike but I submitted my video evidence to my insurance and they said it was the driver's fault, and the drivers insurance assumed responsibility. We are just lucky that its legal on California and we have protections, even when we do dumb things like split lanes on the right side at 6 AM in October when its dark during that time. Lol
A “Vehicle” is defined in section 670 of the California Vehicle Code. No mention of the number of wheels in the definition of a “vehicle”. Also, no mention of the number of wheels in 21658(a). I’m still looking for the section you are relying upon to grant you the authority?? Do some research and let me know. I looked for a section defining “Well Known Fact” but couldn’t find anything. Maybe you can help me out with that one, too.
Citations for 21658(a) for lane splitting have been tested in California courts for the last 40+ years. It has been the same result every time - Guilty! Just because you haven’t been cited for that doesn’t mean it doesn’t apply. But, maybe there is some section of the code that gives the authority. In the last 40 years I haven’t found a single person that can provide the section that gives the authority. That is probably why people keep getting ran over while lane splitting. Stupid, Dangerous, and Illegal.
The government where I live recently changed the motorcycle helmet laws so that people with turbans don't have to wear a helmet. The insurance companies raised everyone's insurance for future claims. Insurance companies are going to have to raise insurance rates because of lane splitting because of the increased risk. Splitting lanes seems to be a good idea at stop lights, but not while traffic is moving. There are way too many people that can't drive properly as it is and having faith or hoping the driver ahead doesn't change lanes is not a good strategy. Besides who determines who has the right of way and when? It comes down to risk vs reward. Too many bad drivers and too many people that make bad choices. In a perfect world I say go for it, but this world is far from perfect.
Awesome video my man. Thanks for the super quick refresher, it’s just what I was looking for!! I love the concise delivery of info… keep ‘er rolling!
Thanks man! Greatly appreciated!

The advantages us riders in CA have! Great video man!
Yup! Thank you!
Until you end up eating the rear of a car 😂
it saves me so much time. just bought a tenere 700 a month ago and it’s incredible for my commute.
@@Network126nope you’re between cars not bumpers. I’m not getting squished between two bumpers with people on cell phones
The biggest misconception is that so many riders think its legal everywhere.

It should be
and when a car pulls to the side to give you ample space when lane splitting, always flash a peace sign or thumbs up as you pass them by ... ;)
I usually do, and I noticed I didn't during this video. I think it's because i was riding and talking so I was already maxing out my brain functions 😆

Roger that 🤙. I’m guilty of lane splitting lol 😂. One of the nice things about commuting on a motorcycle 👍💯
Have a good one Ricky
Lane Splitting is not a crime! (In California)
@@RickyBobber 🤙💯. True but can also be dangerous. However I’m nobody to preach about riding safe lol 😂

That's called passing sir. Hopefully you weren't just sitting right next to rhem.

@myredhuntingcap hey. No problem
Visiting cali for the time on my bike this Thanksgiving. Want to give lane splitting a try, so watching some vids on the rules. Thanks
Glad to help. Stay safe
Nice work man!!!! I was fine with this video then you passed an 18 wheeler and my nerves were undone lol
😆 fun fact, they're actually less likely to move over without notice
Its the teslas you gotta worry about
Lane splitting not allowed 🚫 here in Colorado.
Good to know if I ever ride in CA

I've done that a few times but only if traffic completely stops. If its still moving at a slow but reasonable pace, I'll just wait.
Sweet vlog training great job so I brought all these thumbs ups for you 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍⚡⚡
Rad video and all accurate. Can confirm as a fellow Californian.
Thanks for watching, homegirl 🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@RickyBobber always, my brotha!
Yea we don't have lane splitting here but from looking i understand why. We don't have highways space, I mean dang those lanes are WIDE.
That's something that had never crossed my mind. I wonder.
Thanks for watching, bud
Texas needs to legalize lane splitting or filtering.
No
So u saying there no speed limit for motorcycle in CA?
No. I said you can go up to the posted speed limit
Thanks bro
No problem
Good info Ricky!
Thank you
I only lane split at red lights.

Did you get your Scout yet Travis?
I'm still running on the Rebel. Thinking about adding a Shadow Aero to the family for touring.
Me too! I do it everywhere I can. Lol.

Bullseye!! Thanks for watching homie
👏👏👏👏👏👏 Good video.
great video!
Why can this be legal in North Carolina! 🤣😂🤣
😆🤷♂️
It’s not legal in N. California because it’s better that way less distraction and less accidents. I’d keep that law if I were you.
Wish we could do it here…. Legally 😂
😆
No lane splitting in Ohio! 🤬. Honestly that would take a bit of getting used to.
I've grown to enjoy it quite a bit
lane splitting is illegal here in texas🤷🏽♂️ but i dont ever sir in traffic specially if its hot or im on a road trip lol
Its illegal here in Illinois but some riders do it anyway lol.
I'll bet 😆
More States are passing legislation for lane filtering but California is still the only state that allows for lane splitting.
Arizona just passed the law for lane filtering. But filtering can open the door to lane splitting.
California is like a motorcycle utopia to me. Hope that government doesn't screw that up.

more states need lane splitting
I don't care if it's legal . It's not safe and someone could not see you and accidentally hit you. Defense driving is best.
Everything you just said also applied to being behind and in front of cagers. Expect when splitting, I'm already in the escape route
And always 100% on the defense. Check out this other one I did ruclips.net/video/mEgE2Jur-BY/видео.html
