Does my #1 pick deserve to be above the other flicks on this list? I'm conflicted about it. It's definitely my subjective pick but I'm not sure how out of touch I am with that pick.
Uh ... there's a problem with the nature of this list in that it is about films that are on Netflix at a certain time. I can think of a lot of other films that I'd put at #1 but I can't say if they are (or were) available on Netflix when this list was made. One of the things I really dislike about Netflix is that they put things on there for a limited amount of time. I much prefer Amazon Prime where - as far as I know - once a movie gets on there it stays on there. Escape from New York falls into a certain sub-genre that is not generally regarded as the pinnacle of SciFi. 2001 - would be a film that does fall into the sub-genre at the pinnacle of SIFI. It's difficult for me to express the criteria by which different films would be included in different sub-genre's but I would say that one way of looking at these films was how seriously they took themselves. 2001 - takes itself (despite the ending) completely seriously where as Robocop does not. I would have expected a film from the pinnacle of SciFi sub-genre to be in the #1 spot. .
1) Escape from New York 2) Metropolis 1927 3) Hellboy 4) Nightwatch 2007/08 5) The Host 2006 6) Turbo Kid 7) The Fly 1957 8) Troll Hunter 9) Iron Giant 10) Spectral Here is the list in case you just want to jump ahead and see something... Awesome Video Flick Connection...
It actually comes on and off Netflix every now and then but it's pretty easy to get your hands on it. Love it as well, super underrated but at least it's developed a cult following since it's release.
Troll Hunter was fantastic but I didn't care for the ending that much. And it was hard to generate any buzz around it for friends/family. The Host is great. Should be on everyone's movie list.
Good list! Totally agree with #1! The Escape from New York theme song is sooo cool! I'm glad you put Spectral on this list. I downloaded it for offline viewing on Netflix while flying from NY to Phoenix, AZ and I didn't expect much from it (I usually fall asleep on that flight lol), but I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining it was.
Great recommendations. I can't believe there is someone with the same strange taste in movies that I have. Loved Troll Hunter, recommended it to friends, but they didn't get it--thanks for validating that it was worth watching. Enjoyed Turbo Kid but wondered who it was made for. Saw Escape from New York when it was released and a few more times since. I am going to watch Spectral tonight. Dr. G
@Flick Connection, thank you for this video. Interestingly enough, I remember seeing "Spectal," but lately I have been watching more television shows on Netflix, such as "Sense8" and "Star Trek: Voyager." However, I look forward to watching it, as well as the other ones you mentioned in this list, and shall share with you, in a future comment how much I liked it, or if I did not, why that was the case.
I usually agree with your recommendations; however, this list isn't one I would follow as there are too many that I have seen. Spectral & Metropolis I agree with, as they are not too popular. However, I would have replaced others with The Lazarus Effect, Terminus, Europa Report, Infinity Chamber, Kill Command, The Last Days, and Moon. In my opinion, those movies are closer to the hidden gems you usually tip me onto. Lastly, your recommendation on how to watch Metropolis is spot on. That is a very good movie when you watch it using an eye on the state of movie making at the time.
I almost asked you if you ever recommended Spectral. I really like this movie. I'm sorry I don't like reading while watching horror movies, because I miss so much of the movie, but I miss really good movies. I did watch Train to Busan and really liked it, but it took so much attention away from the zombie horror aspect of the movie. i hear they're going to make an American version of it. Escape from New York is my favorite sci-fi movie and the Thing is my favorite horror movie. Great picks.
Mantis Raymn if you like watching Korean movies you should watch the movie called Pandora. It’s about a nuclear power plant that is melting down. It’s a really good movie to watch if you want a good cry at the ending😂.
Right on, my latest video actually includes a full list of everything added that month, with dates. Everything, not just the highlights I mention in the video. Hope that helps! ruclips.net/video/nw6jB9qlM_U/видео.html
The Host (Korean) is one of my favorite creature features! It's not so much about the creature but a dysfunctional family and some social commentary thrown it. The CGI at the end was under-budgeted (this is an older Asian movie after all) but the characters and acting were all round great and endearing!
Hi, I wish you would consider leaving a list of the movies you talk about in the video descriptions. I keep watching your videos trying to remember the movie because I didn’t write it down.... think about it? Maybe? Please?
Flick Connection okay, I apologize! I just stumbled upon your channel looking for some good horror, and I guess I didn’t see the newer videos. Thanks for the great recommendations, and I must say, the good taste. I’ve subscribed!
U should watch ragnarok its scandinavian movie it is action and adventure movie from my opinion it was good. Sorry for bad english if i made mistakes in this comment im from finland. :) earned sub
That sucks! What are some good Sci Fi Flicks you do have in NZ on Netflix right now? I'm interested to know if you have good ones there that we don't have here.
We have a lot of weird short Sci-fi films but not on Netflix unfortunately but seeing what you're into on this video you might enjoy them.. I'll try that web address to see if I have more luck with your rec's..
So the Fly came out in 1957 which is well after most films went to color but technically they were all "colorized" at that time, using technicolor processes. It could have been B/W but it could also be a false memory. To me the film doesn't appear to have the sharp lighting contrasts needed for B/W but it's hard to say.
According to IMDb - Many viewers who first saw The Fly in the 1960s swear that they saw it in black-and-white. The movie was actually shot in color. The best explanation for the discrepancy, other than faulty memories, is that they viewed the movie on a b/w television. There is also the possibility that some viewers are confusing this film with its sequel, The Return of The Fly, which was shot in black-and-white.
Bah! Thanks for the heads up. I felt confident including it because it hadn't been on there long in the first place. I'm sure it'll be back. At least it's an easy one to get your hands on.
I don't know if it's on Netflix, but "Enemy" (2013) starring Jake Gyllenhaal is a great mindfuck of a sci--fi film. Also, "Predestination" (2014) with Ethan Hawke is great.
Loved Enemy, even with it's super weird ending. Really couldn't get into Predestination though. Parts of it were nice but overall I felt like it overreached and didn't work well IMO.
actually Spectral was pretty good. for what it was it wasn't bad. I enjoyed that flick
Yeah, I actually got the urge to re-watch Spectral while editing this video.
Esteban Cardona i didnt like spectral
Also worth mentioning: Moon, Infini, Bright, Beyond Skyline, Revolt and Inifity Chamber.
Yes, it's time I do a new video. This list has become outdated and there are a lot of good titles that have been added since.
Does my #1 pick deserve to be above the other flicks on this list? I'm conflicted about it. It's definitely my subjective pick but I'm not sure how out of touch I am with that pick.
Flick Connection the iron giant is a kids movie man. That’s the one I didn’t like in the list

.
Hellboy, especially 2, is 1 of the most original sci fi flicks
1) Escape from New York
2) Metropolis 1927
3) Hellboy
4) Nightwatch 2007/08
5) The Host 2006
6) Turbo Kid
7) The Fly 1957
8) Troll Hunter
9) Iron Giant
10) Spectral
Here is the list in case you just want to jump ahead and see something... Awesome Video Flick Connection...
event horizon, not for kids tho. one of my favs. not on netflix as far as i know, still worth it
It actually comes on and off Netflix every now and then but it's pretty easy to get your hands on it. Love it as well, super underrated but at least it's developed a cult following since it's release.
I dunno. The Lovecraft Genre where nothing matters because crazy unexaplaniable things happen, isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Troll Hunter was fantastic but I didn't care for the ending that much. And it was hard to generate any buzz around it for friends/family. The Host is great. Should be on everyone's movie list.
You should definitely check out "The Ritual" on Netflix if you liked both of those.
Txs, I'll add it to my MyList today. Great job btw.
Of the movies listed, Escape From New York definitely deserves the no.1 spot. It's really great.
Good list! Totally agree with #1! The Escape from New York theme song is sooo cool! I'm glad you put Spectral on this list. Thanks, This video is getting a good response so I expect we'll be doing more just like it.
Just because Iron Giant is animated it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be higher on the list. It’s fantastic. Top 5.
There's always one on my lists that should have been higher.
Great recommendations. I can't believe there is someone with the same strange taste in movies that I have. That Korean one... The host I think is a good movie. Totally enjoyed it. Loved nightwatch - actually reading the book now. Metropolis is brilliant.
Still love watching ya. Keep up the good work.

I was going to say the same
Watch happy! And black mirror best on netflix imo
The Host from 2013 is a great movie.. if you haven't seen it yet you should!
Sorry everyone..I was thinking of The Perfect Host. Ive watched it a few times and really like it. Check it out FC and let me know what you think.
Jason Flint I have, it scared the shit out of me,as a kid
Love how you describe movies!
I need to watch Hellboy because i LOVE Ron Pearlman
He said I would have at least spent the rental money on it lmao

Hi, I wish you would consider leaving a list of the movies you talk about in the video descriptions. I keep watching your videos trying to remember the movie because I didn’t write it down.... think about it? Maybe? Please?
All current videos have the full list in the description. A handful of the old ones don't.
Flick Connection okay, I apologize! I just stumbled upon your channel looking for some good horror, and I guess I didn’t see the newer videos. Thanks for the great recommendations, and I must say, the good taste. I’ve subscribed!
Thanks man very cool.
I’m watching lost in space right now gonna check out escape from New York next.
escape from LA was my fav
You keep talking buddy! You are awesome!
Ha, this video was my first one of this format! You're digging deep!
Flick Connection. Lol
Arrival.
For two years I have been trying to find Troll Hunter again, but everytime I try to access it through Netflix, it can't be found.
What country are you in? It's been on Netflix in the U.S. for years.
canada
U should watch ragnarok its scandinavian movie it is action and adventure movie from my opinion it was good. Sorry for bad english if i made mistakes in this comment im from finland. :) earned sub
I've heard of Ragnarok. The trailer really turned me off but I've suspected that it was just a bad trailer so I'll definitely give it a try.
Damn cant get any of these in NZ - still, but will check them out else where cheers!
That sucks! What are some good Sci Fi Flicks you do have in NZ on Netflix right now? I'm interested to know if you have good ones there that we don't have here.

I would put "Dredd" with Karl Urban on this list.
I am behind the ball because Nightwatch and the Host ARE NOT on Netflix, damn.
yeah, this is old. It's time for a new one. Check out some of my recent posts for up to date recommendations.
You should put the list in the description
Did they colorize "The Fly"? I remember it being in b&w. I don't watch colorized movies; they're just fine the way they are.
So the Fly came out in 1957 which is well after most films went to color but technically they were all "colorized" at that time, using technicolor processes. I love this, thanks for sharing. It's so interesting when large groups share false memories like this.
escape from New York no longer on Netflix smh
Bah! Thanks for the heads up. I felt confident including it because it hadn't been on there long in the first place. I'm sure it'll be back. At least it's an easy one to get your hands on.

You ramble.

That's because this is a review video :)
The best reviewers dont say anything at all. They sum it up with alook and a series of squeaks and whistles
