Civil War haunted me and because of that I think I figured something out. It's a war movie that's not about death or journalism. It's about denying humanity. It's about trauma. It's about the death of the idea that life is precious. It was Jessie's (the young photographer) journey from a whole person into someone traumatized until they can disassociate enough to function in war. It's about what happens to people when they don't believe or stop caring about the preciousness of human life. That other people are just as fully human as they are. It's about what has to happen to a person in order to overlook the horrors of pits full of bodies. I think that's why it's polarizing. Not everyone gets it and that's not an easy reflection to see. It's also a really hard thing to convey, and Alex Garland gets ALL of my respect for trying. IMO this is a film that transcends "movies" and can well and truly be called art. That said, I didn't "enjoy" it, but it is important.
I put off watching Schindler's List FOR YEARS... because I knew I wouldn't "enjoy it"... But it fully engaged me.. had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.... Because of the level of craftsmanship in the making of it, and the acting of Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes, in a way, I enjoyed the film deeply. I can only say that in a very qualified way, cause the subject matter is horrifying. Could say the same with Civil War? I haven't seen it yet... and this video has talked me out of bothering... Would you still recommend it?
Civil War was brilliant. So intense. Still thinking about this movie. The scene where they roll-up on the snipers pinned down by a shooter trying to kill people on the road. Journalists inquire who they are and try to get some context or what side each person is on, but they get as to the motivation is “they shot at us.”
The first 3 Alien movies seemed to have slipped her empty head, especially the first. Not only was Ripley the lead character played by Sigourney Weaver, but the main Alien creature was also a female. Both of them by the way better actors than Jennifer Lawrence. Nobody complained about the lead character being female, she was great.
How do they claim that with a straight face? I say "they" because it is a recurring talking point that I've heard over the decades in spite of the loooong list of women fronting action movies and...TV shows since the 60s... and even cartoons and comic books. Start with Barbarella 1968...
I loved_ "The Beekeeper", it's dumber than a bag of hammers with no heads, but, it knows it, and is 100% OK with it. In fact, it goes out of its way to make it known that it's SO FRKKN DUMB, but it doesn't need to be. It's kinetic comedy. I loved it.
Rebel Moon was the worst for me. I was super excited to watch it and was blown away by how bad it was. Madam Web wasn't as bad for me because I rented it knowing it was going to be bad, so I got what I was expecting.
I thought the Beekeeper was fun. With the caveat that I saw it on Amazon Prime without paying extra to watch it- I would not have liked it as much if I had paid a rental fee or to see it in a theater. It brings up current events (a coke sniffing, s*x worker frequenting son of a sitting president, government agency corruption) and pokes fun at them without engaging them. It doesn't take anything seriously, it's almost a parody of John Wick clones. And Jason Statham has some movies I think are much better (Wrath of Man for example) that are not as big as they should be. I see the Beekeeper as delivering the elements that fans want in a Jason Statham movie, but almost pokes fun at those elements.
Back in the 70s, before Super Cinemas... there'd be one theatre showing 1 movie at a time. You'd wait in line around the block to buy a ticket for prime time shows. The budget place we'd go to (after the main theatres were done with the movie) would be packed and it cost 99 cents. Good movies would spend 2 years in theatres. That experience was a blast. I don't go to theatres anymore. In general, modern movies just aren't any good, and the movie experience is not really fun like it used to be. Sit in a comfy chair in a huge theatre with 7 people. Wait a month and you can stream it.
I wasn't born until 1980 but it seems to me if a movie theater was only playing one movie then you would miss out on a lot great movies I go to the Harkins theater near me and they always have 10 - 12 movies there playing and there something for everyone I think that's better also they have those big comfy seats you can recline in bet they didn't have that in the 70's
@@rustyshackleford6035 Don't get me wrong there were certainly drawbacks. Because it was the low budget theatre you made sure to keep your jacket on in the winter time. The place was freezing. And with all the gum on the floor you had a 50/50 shot of walking out without your shoes. And not every movie was a winner. The most bored I ever was in that theatre watching Missing with Sissy Spacek... I mean I was 10. But movie experience? Haven't you ever been to an event where, you can't really explain it, there's an energy? Raiders of the Lost Ark had that vibe. Obviously, Star Wars. Although I never saw it in the theatres. I was told I was too young. I was crushed. Its like waiting in a long line for a bad ass roller coaster. Anyways, that's my 2 cents. Everything is so convenient now, you never get any time to build anticipation.
By the early 80s, they had a multi-screen theater by me but they were still selling tickets for $1. With more screens, they would bring the good movies back every so often so that you can watch them umpteen more times for a dollar. That's how I ended up watching 1978's "Grease" WAY too many times for a kid. I think I'm still mentally scarred from that summer of self-overindulgence. The only time I go to modern movies now would be to watch the occasional action or sci-fi hit on a huge IMAX screens. "Dune 2" was the last one I saw on IMAX recently. It was awesome! (Ironically, IMAX screens have a 4.3-to-3 ratio which is much closer to the old 4:3 ratio for TVs back in the day. So, in a sense, I'm now watching awesome modern movies on a large TV screen on IMAX while I stream the other Hollywood releases at home on a 16:9 widescreen TV, which is similar to the "normal" 16.7-to-9 ratio big screen that you find at all movie theaters. )
Not giving any particular time, but I remember going to Saturday afternoon double features (usually horror or science fiction) and sometimes there would be live entertainment between movies. (I remember a magician.)
the emotional breakdown i watched you go through trying to explain madame web was so funny 😭 that’s the face of a man that came back from facing the terrors of war
As soon as he started rubbing his eyes, I was reminded of the scene from Seinfeld where Jerry says you can judge how bad a relationship is by how far up the face a person rubs their hands: ruclips.net/user/shortsUWTWgDtmvUI
I liked it, even though it had generic plot and dialogue. The great looking visuals, action and interesting subplot ideas made it a decent watch for me.
Late night with the devil was great! The lead actor I’ve seen in other movies where he plays a creepy background character. Never liked him but man he was incredible in this movie and I’m a fan now.
Monkey Man surprised me too. Thanks for the warning away from Civil War. I had my doubts. I like this format, btw, you as a critic of bad films not just offering up the good ones. Thanks!
We're really gonna bring up Alex Garland's filmography without mentioning that he not only helped write, but direct Dredd?!?! (Karl Urban has confirmed Garland ended up taking over on that project)
HE'S STRAWMANING THE CRITICISM FURIOSA RECEIVED. THOSE SAME CRITICS LOVED ALIEN/ ALIENS, GHOST IN A SHELL, UNDERWORLD... THE PROBLEM WITH HOLLYWOOD TODAY IS THAT THEY'RE DOING IT WITH THE PURPOSE OF UNDERMINING MEN AND TO PUSH A LEFTIST AGENDA.
My wife (not a movie person) wanted to watch Argylle the other night and whole time I was thinking this movie is horrible, but she bought into it and liked it. So, I got to watch the whole thing!!
My wife and I are convinced that Ai wrote the script to THE BEEKEEPER. No one can kill a Beekeeper! 7 seconds later, We have to kill the Beekeeper. It does that several times. 😳
Funnily enough, my wife and I enjoyed the movie. Her because she seems to love Jason Statham and ne because I want to expect anything from it as I knew nothing about it.
He didn’t say that he was a comedy actor. CONTEXT is everything. The whole of the statement was he was genuinely a good comedy actor WHEN he decides to do a comedy.
Exactly...I don't care that it wasn't a "great movie", as Jason Statham never fails to make entertaining movies, including this one! I loved the Transporter movies and even found the Meg movies goofy fun, but still entertaining!
Dune 2 felt like too much character development was cut from it, as I can't really believe Villeneuve wouldn't include it. Sometimes characters have a change of mind that isn't explained, or is very sudden as if something somehow flipped a switch.
Good video! Civil War was propaganda. The only real thread was relationship between Dunst's character and the aspiring journalist. Which was thinly drawn. Everything else was predictable American themes of "fear your neighbor" and "embrace the military, and therefore military takeover." The much better film about journalists covering a civil war is the Killing Fields.
It is just anti-war in general. No other politics that I could glean... I saw lots of reviews that said something similar. Director was trying to avoid any and all connections to current affairs and just make it a general "you do not want this kind of situation" kind of warning...
@@0ooTheMAXXoo0 I disagree. I've seen many reviewers say the same. It's "anti-war." Unfortunately, just showing "violence bad," isn't anti-war. You have to show the reasons WHY war is futile and horrific. And that, in the the end, you'll have to figure out peace regardless. This film shows, "president bad, so violence is a solution." That's not anti-war. In fact, it's the opposite.
I don't really understand what people expected or are missing with Civil War. I guess, put another way, I thought it was great. I didn't have specific expectations in watching this movie because I've seen Alex Garland movies before, and expecting something specific would sort of be a mistake in my opinion. I've heard people complain that it doesn't take a stance or make a statement, and I don't agree. It seems like people just wanted it to agree with their left or right preference when it's political statement was instead about something else- bigger than left vs. right. It was pretty scary to me. I felt what it would be like to have war in our country. I had to think about how our perspective on conflicts like this is always through a lens. Also, because it wasn't stooping to the level of 'left' vs. 'right', I think it made a statement that "it doesn't matter who is right or wrong in this pretend conflict--> shouldn't we calm down a bit and lose any and all perverted excitement over what a civil war would look like?". Not my favorite movie of the year, but it made me think and I've been sort of confused to see people ripping on it.
I showed some of the "reviews" they were using to market the movie. They oversold it as a dystopian future war and show most of the action in the trailer. They even marketed it as an IMAX movie but it feels much more like the first episode of an Apple TV series than a big cinematic blockbuster.
@@DarrenVanDam fair points in terms of peopled actually expecting it to have the "broad appeal" of a blockbuster. If you think of Garland movies, at least when I do, they tend to be movies with visual elements that share traits with those of blockbusters. Like, you could take snippets of several of his movies and put big bold letters and exciting music behind it and get the impression it would be a blockbuster. So, I guess the thing is that I never thought Civil War would be a blockbuster. I would say that, even with the marketing, if I expected anything, it was to watch a movie that felt like Red Dawn, or Red State even. I get the sense people thought it was going to be Independence Day or War of the Worlds.
watch the original trailer for civil war and then compare that to what the movie actually is, they are miles apart, expectations were set high for an action packed movie and people feel cheated by false marketing
@@DarrenVanDam I guess I had the luxury of not seeing any of the marketing or hype for this movie. I only knew the movie existed the day before I watched it. I saw no trailers for it or anything so I had no false expectations.
@@DarrenVanDamI completely agree with you. Total bait and switch for the marketing and even for the story they tried to tell it was missing so much world building and character building. I was very disappointed. I even got bored a few times.
The Beekeeper: I find it strange that the FBI agent whose mother's death was attributable to the villains, showed no grief (other than for some drinking. She then proceeds to try to hunt down the one person who is avenging her mothers death and is going after the villains who are bilking thousands of vulnerable elderly people of their life savings. Terrible.
Story development was beyond rushed from the start... Barely knew anything about her mom and her relationship with the Beekeeper. I think the FBI agent and her partner were not great at selling the story... The acting wasn't good and took away from the whole movie for me. The action was the most entertaining
The female lead makes a bad movie thing is slightly false. An ORIGINAL movie with a female lead is generally good such as the examples you gave, Alien, Terminator etc. The problem is that instead of writing original movies for female heroes, they get lazy & say "Why don't we do a female version of..." insert male hero movie here. The female 'boss' is fine. The female version of a male 'boss' is almost inevitably dogsh!t.
Saw Furiosa in its first week and to this day still has me reeling. I know it’s a work of fiction, but it’s depiction of people turning to barbarity and cruelty because of the bad situation they are in is masterclass from George Miller.
For people who have a decent Regal theater in their area, Regal Unlimited is about $20 a month and they are also doing reusable popcorn and pop. Initial cost is $22. Subsequent visits it’s $10 for initial fill with one free refill of each. That deal is good till the end of the year. Great deal for the weekend matinees that don’t have as many people. I’ve already seen 4 movies in July, and only spent $55 ($20 for Regal Unlimited, $22 for refillable popcorn and drink, $10 for a refil) that’s only $13 per movie! Still have Longlegs, Twister and might see Deadpool in July (August for sure) so it’s something to look into for those with Regal Thaaters nearby.
Furiosa was super well made and it delivered for me personally. However, 1) it is a prequel origin story and 2) it does not have Max in it. Maybe these things had nothing to do with why it crashed upon landing, but they are certainly worth considering.
Furiosa got great reviews. Anyone who liked Fury Road would like this... I did not know it had come out until it was already out of most theaters (me and the wife were wanting to see it in the theaters). It was a matter of release timing and advertising if there was any difference in audience numbers between Fury Road and Furiosa.
I know it technically came out late last year but another one you could call one of 2024’s best is Poor Things! So good! Just don’t watch it with the family…
Wholeheartedly agree! One of my favorite movies of the last few years. Not the same old run-of-the-mill crap they keep churning out. And Emma Stone was fantastic! 👍✌️
Yo-D- The Transporter movies are big fun. I liked the first one so much, I bought a 740i! And, it was a new twist at the time. The other two are over the top, still fun and one must admit the girl in T3 is worth looking at.
I LOVED Civil War. I’ve only been to 2 movies in theaters since Covid and this was one of them. I thought the storytelling was excellent, I thought the disconnection was appropriate (and not because it could have happened anywhere. It felt very specifically American.), and I thought staying close to the ground was a chilling way to explore war in a way that films typically. I loved that A24 spent a huge budget on a story about characters, not set pieces with no humanity. Do we have MCU Stockholm Syndrome here? Have we not seen character-driven films that tell small stories on a large stage for so long that we can’t get the bombast out of our heads? Wow. I’m super disappointed at the completely tone-deaf misread of this movie from this channel.
Boy oh boy. I liked Civil War a lot. The despair and futility is the point. Plus the violence was pretty involved. I did see it in IMAX. This will be a cult classic
Just a note on female lead movies. The RUclipsrs you showed in your video don’t say you can’t have a female lead in a movie they say you can’t have a female lead in your movie and think that alone will make it successful. You need a good story no matter who the lead is. You kind of do them dirty by implying they simply hate on female leads.
99% of such comments are not nuanced. They just yell about the female lead... Obviously most people will not have the most extreme views, but those with the extreme version are the most likely to comment a lot...
One of the best videos you’ve put out Darren. Really appreciate you highlighting/reviewing the turds that I’ve been on the fence about due to personal suspicion. Please do more of these to help us save some money and time!
I already saw Bushwick so I didn't feel the need to see Civil War tbh. I loved Furiousa, the storytelling for me was GREAT...only problem was that Mad Max wasn't in it. Late Night With the Devil was great....loved it! Dune 2...I'm sure will win a couple of well-deserved Oscars
The Beekeeper was really good. John Wick didn’t invent the revenge movie - and Jason Statham is awesome. It’s entertaining with a good story. This is like when a guy watches their fav basketball team for ten years and then somehow thinks he can coach the team better.
I love Fury Road! Was excited for Furiosa 2. But they did what so many movies today do -- they loved the main character too much, handled her with kid gloves, didn't raise the stakes on her, and it was a weaker story and character as a result.
Haven't seen her in 50 shades but I have seen her in other movies and I thought she was an OK actress. Until Madame Web. To be fair all of the actors in Madame Web looked like they were thinking "wtf am I doing in this movie??"
Also, I LOVE the first "Transporter" movie. Even after multiple viewings I've continued think it to be, tight and on point, even if the overall premise is a little silly; but hey, it's meant to be a "blockbuster"-type movie.
It's worth noting on Madam Web they weren't trying to make a good movie. The main goal for that movie was for Sony to use characters they would lose the rights to if they didn't use them. So from Sony's perspective, use the characters or lose them to Disney/Marvel. They could have made an effort at least, but sadly they didn't. But Sony retained the rights to the characters for future use.
Civil War is easily forgettable. No grounding or direction. Hated the ending. Only thing I can say is they projected that if there is a true civil war there will be either no points of command or extreme gaps in command and/or who to trust.
That’s because you’re American you certainly believe that Civil War was an action movie. In fact, the The audience for that film is more nuance and if I may say so more intelligent. Not anerican
Right...the intended audience for a movie about a civil war fought in the US was not "Anerican". That's some grade A, Top Gun "nuance" there, sch'mart guy 😂
@@alberto5147 As an American, I agree that it was a more nuanced movie that threw a lot of audience members for a loop. I personally loved it while everyone I know that didn't said "it wasn't what I expected it to be". There was also scoffing over the supposed California/Texas alliance, as that is a preposterous pairing, but I believe that was Alex Garland's way of de-politicizing the conflict. That he avoid the origins of the war and which side was fighting for what, exactly, told me that he intentionally wanted the focus to be on the fallout of a modern civil war in the U.S. and what that might look like REGARDLESS of the motivations/politics. That said, your hilariously failed effort to suggest the movie was "more intelligent"...and therefore "not Anerican" (whoopsie!) was a cheap shot that devalued your entire argument...especially with you suggesting that you possess a higher intellect while simultaneously botching the spelling of America. Hypocrite, much?
Why does it seem that a lot of the really good writers in Hollywood are writing horror movies? The amount of fantastic horror movies in the last 4-5 years is unbelievable. I do think we're in the golden age of horror right now. It is KILLING (pun intended) every other genre of movies right now. Not even close.
Cool list but Civil War and The Beekeeper shouldn't be on this list. Civil War isn't bad it's just people were expecting a "war" film not a film about the trials and tribulations of wartime journalism. The Beekeeper was a basic action movie done right like John Wick. It could've definitely gone wrong (like Expendables 4) but it presented itself as nothing but a simple revenge flick. Everything else on the list should be ashamed of itself.
My favorite thing about Madame Web was the Ben Parker backstory and the birth of his nephew, if you are not a Marvel fan that whole movie seems to just give us more backstory on Peter. I really enjoyed The Beekeeper and I am the guy really hoping we get a sequel or series ala John Wick.
I’m waiting for the R rated versions of Rebel Moon to fully cast judgment…… Zack claims it will be completely different from the pg-13 versions …… I don’t have high hopes 🤞🏻
Yes! You mirrored my feelings regarding Rebel Moon. I actually thought that at 45 this movie wasn't for me for whatever reason. Tedious and boring. I still haven't watched part 2 and I can't really say I remember part 1 but I am definitely NOT going to sit through that again. 6 movies? Really? I need a vacation...
I saw The Beekeeper, and I really liked it. Maybe because I like Jason Statham? Or maybe I like the revenge story against a large corporation which steals money from people online.
I agree, but I think 50 shades made sense being such of a bland character even in the books, if you know what I mean. She was accurately casted, him… definitely not.
An actor is not responsible for the quality of a project. Might as well blame the caterer... She has been in some great films like The Peanut Butter Falcon and Cha Cha real Smooth. She was also great as host on Saturday Night Live.
Agreed re your comments on the cinema/theatre experience. Too many ppl spoil the experience considering how much you're paying. I try to go a bit after the release of a big movie to avoid the crowds. Been spoiled by working for a film company and having private cinemas at the office and then having my own at home (before I got divorced! Lol) Love the channel, keep up the good work!
I did like civil war, why? Because I saw it as a mix of what is happening in the moment with journalism's moment of it, by the way they combined the photos as frames of the scene. It could be better yes, but I did appreciate that is not like many movies and the fact that this could happen in a near future.
The transporter movies are, what made Jason Statham an action movie star. So there’s that. And I am a comic book nerd, earned my living with a collectibles retail store for 20 years. After it was my passion for 5-7 years before that. so I still enjoyed Madame Webb. Waited till it was free on streaming, of course, because I heard such bad things about it.
I loved "Civil War." The cast was phenomenal and I just love how it was done. Kirsten Dunst gave an insanely powerful performance. I love the Transporter movies. Even Jason Statham doesn't see himself as a good actor lol. He's known to say that all his characters are pretty similar because he knows what he's good at. He can do the action thing and knows he's pretty much only good at that. He fully understand that and laughs at himself a LOT in interviews.
Thanks, feeling vindicated now. I stopped watching Rebel Moon at the beginning, when the writers created the painfully obvious plot device of conflict between the admiral and the village leader. ..
CIVIL WAR was weird. It was a movie about journalism, not war, prepping or anything like that. FURIOSA was very underrated. I don't understand how that bombed at the box office. 20 years ago that flick would have been a billion dollar blockbuster. ARGYLE wasn't awful, but it was very repetitive if youve seen M Vaughns movies or Guy Ritchie movie. Always love your movie insights, Darren!
I think most people don't realize that Fury Road is the ANOMOLY in the Mad Max franchise, not the norm. Max is mostly a cultist type of franchise. Fury Road was as a shock being an absolute blockbuster and Oscar winner. LOVE Furiosa, but it wasn't necessary. Would have rather had another Max story OR a Furiosa sequel to Fury Road OR some type of tie-in with the music box(es) in Road Warrior and Fury Road. Was hoping to find Tom Hady's Max was actually the feral boy from Road Warrior and now the world has come to the point where Mad Max was a legend of a time past. A mysterious man who's helped communities in need break from oppressors, kind of like Dread Pirate Roberts from A Princess Bride
Civil War was an amazing movie - it was always marketed as a story about journalism. Did you expect the journalists to pick up guns? It was so freaking intense and timely.
Civil War sucked so much. It was boring, confusing, slow paced, and there’s barely any action. When I walked out, I wanted my two hours of my life back and a refund. There was one positive thing and it is Kristen Dunst acting. She did a great job
ok, i was about to get on you about furiosa, until i realized you felt exactly as i did hahah.. i agree, the movie was good, and some parts even amazing, but the way the story was put together was not like fury road at all which gelled from start to finish, i found myself feeling like i was watching 2 movies or even 3 at once.. a little bizarre
Truly appreciate your opinion and I want to thank u for saving my time for better movies . I feel ya , went to see "Quiet Place , Day One" and I was so pissed like 5 or 6 people came in about 15-20 minutes after movie had started and used their cell phone lights to find their seats right in the middle of the theatre , then this woman just to the left of me kept using her phone and her screen kept flashing off and on through half the movie , but the most annoying thing was the person sitting in front of me in a rocker that squeeked every time that he rocked in it , and he rocked & squeeked throughout the entire movie . Of course you probably know the whole movie itself was entirely quiet up to the monster scenes . This was the 1st movie I had been to since "Wakanda forever" and this movie there was a freaking overhead light that wouldn't shutoff for at least 20 minutes into the movie , so yeah I'm done spending good cash for movies that I can't enjoy , I'll just buy the 4k bluray which would be about the same price with popcorn and a drink included and enjoy my movies at home in peace !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved Mad Max. Saw in the Theaters as a kid with my uncle but I didn't care so much for Fury Road. It was like the whole plot was steal a truck. Drive towards a far off place, get almost there and decide to turn around and drive back. End of Movie. But... After seeing Furiosa, Fury Road made so much more sense, cause I watched them back to back. They should have released them in that order. Now I love both of them. Dune - A+ Fallguy - A+ Civil War - Stupid. Drive all the way across America trying not to get killed. Watch the President get shot. EOM. Argyle - WTF am I watching and why am I still watching it? Rebel Moon - Every shot of farmers using 18th century tools to farm wheat in a future world with Steam powered Spaceships. Big Disappointment. Like, is that all they have to eat in the future?? The Bee Keeper - It's Jason, What did you expect. I liked it. Madam Web - Watched 45 seconds of the original Trailer. Never watched anything else of it. Period. Not mentioned: Roadhouse - Why? Just Why? The ministry of Ungentlemanly warfare - Loved it. Hitman - Better than I expected. B+ Atlas - Same as Rebel Moon. So much potential lost. This could have been a great movie. (without Jolo of course) Terrible actor. If they would have killed her off at the 1st of the movie and then had a big AI robot vs Mech Battle for the rest of the movie A++ Godzilla Kong the new Empire - Mixed feelings. It was more like a comedy. But at least I finished it.
Thank you for reviewing some bombs too!! I love your channel and always watch when new stuff if coming up on streaming. Your shirts are amazing!! Please keep making more
The Dune book series is lace in its construction. This TV series is gunnysack cloth. Perhaps 10 or 15 years after the last time I have read the Dune series, I will have forgotten enough details to not shudder at how the video presentation slaughters the genius of the books.
This was my favorite episode for me. Our tastes don’t always align but our contempt for bad movies does. I watch because you are the best at what you’re doing and your channel is awesome.
The Beekeeper: 1) Feels like the love child of Nobody & John Wick. Both belong to ultra-secret organizations and the last person you want to see, and they both had something that they cared about taken away from them. 2) That was my 1st thought after watching it, i see a franchise coming. PLEASE NO! I think i am in a minority in that, to me, there was no need for JW 2-4. I felt the first movie told a complete story. I feel the same way about the Equalizer movies. I watched the original tv series with the late Edward Woodward. Loved him in Breaker Morant. I stopped going to movies: 1) People treated the theater like their living room 2) built my own home theater
Thank you for another good video. Your comment about the short time period between release in the cinemas and home release is likely the single greatest reason for falling attendance. Certainly for a movie like the Fall Guy which no one would think needs a huge screen to tell its story. If studios made the conscious decision to extend the time to 3-4 months between the theatre release to the DVD and streaming releases then that would pull more people into the theatre. Secondly, with VPN's, we can see some of these movies on streaming services in other countries even if it is not in our own country. Not a movie but Star Trek Prodigy is already streaming on Netflix UK. Damn. The rise of VPN's along with the fragmentation of streaming services; also is bringing us back to the heyday of torrent downloading. So delaying the release of a DVD or HD streaming also means there will not be any decent rips of these movies on torrent sites. Thus killing two birds with one stone. Reducing downloads and getting more people to go to the cinema. .

I like the Beekeeper for what it was. I was expecting a great story, I just wanted to see Statham kick ass
I liked rebel moon :-) maybe i should check out the others that I dont know.. LOL !
I liked Argylle, not saying it was good, maybe it reminded me of B movies in the 90s 🤷 😅 my youth 😂
you look like if critical drinker had a normal shaped head
Great synopsis!
I think that's a pretty brilliant take on it. Thanks for putting it in that perspective.
@@ericmmelin I'll check it out when it rolls out on free streaming.
Ooh that Jennifer Lawrence/Ripley cut was tight 12:20
She's clueless
Every time I think of her making that comment - I'm reminded of: ruclips.net/video/qileP4bAzek/видео.html
The icing on the cake was Sigourney Weaver calling Jennifer out on social media for all to see. 🤣
I loved it.
I loved it too! Mindless Action that you have to be a fan of! 😊
Same! It was exactly what I expected and wanted from a Jason Statham movie
Rebel Moon was the worst for me. I was super excited to watch it and was blown away by how bad it was. Madam Web wasn't as bad for me because I rented it knowing it was going to be bad, so I got what I was expecting.
I absolutely loved it..was best movie of year for me.
The Dune movies are worth the theater experience, IMHO.

Rebel Moon was HORRIFIC, so bad not only was it DNF I honestly don't recall when I stopped watching, I just wandered off...😊
I liked it, even though it had generic plot and dialogue. The great looking visuals, action and interesting subplot ideas made it a decent watch for me.

Late night with the devil was great! The lead actor I’ve seen in other movies where he plays a creepy background character. Never liked him but man he was incredible in this movie and I’m a fan now.
Everyone i know who has seen Civil War loved it and only complain it was too short.
It's an amazing and powerful movie
I am a big garland fan and didn't have any interest in it going in. Then I watched it and loved it. I think it's one of his best.
One of my favorite action movies is Alita which has a female lead
HE'S STRAWMANING THE CRITICISM FURIOSA RECEIVED. THOSE SAME CRITICS LOVED ALIEN/ ALIENS, GHOST IN A SHELL, UNDERWORLD... THE PROBLEM WITH HOLLYWOOD TODAY IS THAT THEY'RE DOING IT WITH THE PURPOSE OF UNDERMINING MEN AND TO PUSH A LEFTIST AGENDA.
And we're still waiting for a sequel.
We Need the sequal!
Give us the sequel!!!!!
AI would have done a better job.
@@mattkock not saying that is great, but they did try to use a beekeeper to kill a beekeeper.
I agree Matt...if it was AI ver. 1.0
I really enjoyed the Beekeeper.
Ryan Gosling is not a "comedy actor" he's just so god damn good that he can do Comedy as well! Still love that shirt RVD
Beekeepers redeeming quality was the man with the golden teeth
the fall guy rocked.. i wasnt sure how much i would enjoy, but this truly was freakin awesome!
I LOVED the Beekeeper:) for the action.
I thought it was fun. And it didn't try to make me hate myself.
It was fun
Me too top 5 for Jason Statham to me
Exactly...I don't care that it wasn't a "great movie", as Jason Statham never fails to make entertaining movies, including this one! I loved the Transporter movies and even found the Meg movies goofy fun, but still entertaining!
That last fight in the hallway was awesome
Bee keeper was amazing! actually the bad guys were very realistic.. scammers!
I liked it
Based on how people turned on others during COVID, he is spot on. It won't take one day of no internet to turn some people into animals. Bet on it.
FURIOSA is so good!
Ill watch Furiosa, I live in Bumfuct, Egypt so I have to wait for it to stream
Thanks! I actually have one a few blocks away. Last time I was there I saw Terriffier 2 lol
Furiosa was super well made and it delivered for me personally. However, 1) it is a prequel origin story and 2) it does not have Max in it. Maybe these things had nothing to do with why it crashed upon landing, but they are certainly worth considering.
Max was shown in the very end.
@@TheSavageRepairmanoh well that’s ok then :)
It also got backlash from conservatives because they claimed it was "woke" because of the female lead.
@@Lyle-fv9mmnice reference lol
I enjoyed Beekeeper. U can’t go wrong with senseless Statham action. And Monkey Man was pretty dope.
Yo-D- The Transporter movies are big fun. I liked the first one so much, I bought a 740i! And, it was a new twist at the time. The other two are over the top, still fun and one must admit the girl in T3 is worth looking at.
We loved Argylle. It didn’t take itself seriously and was just a fun time at the theater!
MONKEY MAN was outstanding! 💯🤘🏽
Yipes. I also liked Furiosa.
Argylle - when the pet cat gets more screen time in the trailer than any other character - you just know it's going to be problematic.
Overall, Argyle was a fun silly movie. However, I did have issues w/ skating on oil slick.
We need a movie stared by Dakora Johnson and Jaden Smith...
(Ducks and hide)
Or “Dull and Duller”
I love Fury Road! Was excited for Furiosa 2. But they did what so many movies today do -- they loved the main character too much, handled her with kid gloves, didn't raise the stakes on her, and it was a weaker story and character as a result.
Thank you for speaking the truth about Dakota Johnson. I thought it was just me. Never understood her appeal
I liked Furiosa, not great, kinda too long but I liked it in theater. The thunder bike scene with loud effects.
I loved the Beekeeper, it was exactly what I wanted to watch and didn't try to be anything else.
I didn’t hate madam web. Not great not awful. Agree with you about rebel moon
I Loved Beekeeper! Loved how it Ended too!
We saw Abigail finally and it was stunningly great. You are so right, horror right now is doing it right.
Here in Japan, we don't even get The Fall Guy in cinemas until August. I've been looking forward to it for ages.
The problem with civil was there is no driving narrative

Yeah 50 shades needs to be on 1 of these lists..One of the worst movies ever made.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but this channel rocks when you're showing love.
The audience at a cinema is almost always a huge plus for me. I think only once were people not paying attention and being rude...
I did like civil war, why? Because I saw it as a mix of what is happening in the moment with journalism's moment of it, by the way they combined the photos as frames of the scene. It could be better yes, but I did appreciate that is not like many movies and the fact that this could happen in a near future.
Little confused on you saying no one liked Civil War. It has a 70% fan rating on RT and a decent rating of 6.2 meta critic.

Loved Furiosa. Helmsworth's performance is brilliant.
Did anyone else notice the Statham punch in Darren’s clip that was more than a foot away from the guards face?
Great video, thanks ✌️
Thanks, feeling vindicated now. I stopped watching Rebel Moon at the beginning, when the writers created the painfully obvious plot device of conflict between the admiral and the village leader. ..
Appreciate a real or "Reel" ones to MISS.... we dont always need to know what to see as much as what NOT to.. especially lately..
I totally agree, I am not sure which I like more furiosa or fury road. I think furiosa was great.
If Furiosa was released less than 5 years after Fury Road, and pre-pandemic, it certainly would have been a blockbuster.
@@TravisPflanz Agree
@@danieljarvis9117 Agree. The theater viewing business model has completely changed.
Civil War was an amazing movie - it was always marketed as a story about journalism. Did you expect the journalists to pick up guns? It was so freaking intense and timely.
Argyle has Dua Lipa and the cat 🐈! Glad to see your subscription count, well deserved!
Darren Van Dam was in the Amazon with my mom researching spiders before she died.
It’s true I was there
fun commentary on the bad ones !!! You saved me some pain!
Civil War sucked so much. It was boring, confusing, slow paced, and there’s barely any action. When I walked out, I wanted my two hours of my life back and a refund.
There was one positive thing and it is Kristen Dunst acting. She did a great job
This might be my favorite style of video I've watched of yours. Have you done others with this hate it/love it format?
I have saved so much money and time by not going to movies, and not paying for streaming, and not watching Hollywood trash for many years now.
You mean female action figures who still get their ass kicked like Atomic Blonde was fabulous! A 105lbs woman just don’t cut it if she’s invincible
Scathing! You should do more negative reviews, love it.
ok, i was about to get on you about furiosa, until i realized you felt exactly as i did hahah.. i agree, the movie was good, and some parts even amazing, but the way the story was put together was not like fury road at all which gelled from start to finish, i found myself feeling like i was watching 2 movies or even 3 at once.. a little bizarre
Civil War was one of the best movies I've seen this year
Argylle was a quality popcorn movie
Late Night With the Devil was excellent
Dune - A+
Fallguy - A+
Civil War - Stupid.
Period.
Not mentioned:
Roadhouse - Why? Just Why?
The ministry of Ungentlemanly warfare - Loved it.
Hitman - Better than I expected. B+
Atlas - Same as Rebel Moon. So much potential lost. This could have been a great movie. (without Jolo of course) Terrible actor. If they would have killed her off at the 1st of the movie and then had a big AI robot vs Mech Battle for the rest of the movie A++
Godzilla Kong the new Empire - Mixed feelings. It was more like a comedy. But at least I finished it.
I consider “Madam Web” to be like a vaccination shot. Now that I’ve watched it, I can probably handle whatever schlock there is…like “Velocipastor”👍🏼
Thank you for reviewing some bombs too!! I love your channel and always watch when new stuff if coming up on streaming. Your shirts are amazing!! Please keep making more
LATE NIGHT was genius. Best of 2024. Top notch. I love well written and acted movies all filmed in one set location. Brilliant.
The Dune book series is lace in its construction. This TV series is gunnysack cloth. Perhaps 10 or 15 years after the last time I have read the Dune series, I will have forgotten enough details to not shudder at how the video presentation slaughters the genius of the books.
The only thing that I like about Madame Web was that the main character looked really good in her jeans. That was pretty much it for me.
This was my favorite episode for me. Our tastes don’t always align but our contempt for bad movies does. I watch because you are the best at what you’re doing and your channel is awesome.
Love this channel and your inputs on so many different movies. Definitely gets me into more movies I didn’t think to ever watch!
The Beekeeper:
1) Feels like the love child of Nobody & John Wick.
I stopped going to movies:
1) People treated the theater like their living room
2) built my own home theater
I really don’t understand the hate on Rebel Moon I actually liked it🤷🏽♂️
Thank you for another good video. Reducing downloads and getting more people to go to the cinema. .
