The way I see it, you talk like that because you're from Georgia and everybody in your city talks like that but the DM talks like that because he is black. In his city, it is probably identifiable as black urban venacular so policing his way of talking adds a racist component. I totally get how it's kind of racist or at the very least extremely, extremely tone deaf and arrogant.

I feel like, as the DM, you're obligated to tell a single player "no that's overpowered" as many times as needed. Reworking entire encounters due to the power of a single character sounds like a nightmare. Worse still if you try to make it fair and give all the other players OP stuff too.
Yup, there's no way to properly balance that. If the entire group is going extremely powerful then just ramp up the encounter and give them a bunch of enemies so they can feel like gods. But if one person does it, that means that either he/she will run through it and make the rest feel like shit, or the encounter becomes way too hard for others. I feel like never having a challenge in DND would just become plain boring really fast so i have no idea why you'd do this.
About your last sentence, nah, it’s not as much of a hassle as it sounds. Like, my game is very high power, I’m super open with giving all of my players stuff that’s way too overpowred for their level and everything, and it’s not hard to balance for at all, just gotta treat them as a few levels higher than their actual level when determining encounter difficulty. If one person is way more powerful than everyone else? Yea, that’s a problem. What I’d do in this situation is give the rest of the party powerful stuff as well, and then do what I described above

Like what would a level 5 wizard be doing with something like a staff of the magi or something, or why would a party of level 6/7 characters be taking on an ancient red dragon when they're really just local legends "Saves the day from Orc invaders" type people at that point, just as some (exaggerated)examples.
But, of course, everyone plays differently!

It goes without saying that Rat's behavior is awful, as was Cat"s, but I'm honestly concerned by how Capi was reacting up until that final pivotal moment. When the OP asked Capi how she felt about what Rat had been doing and she brushed it off like it was nothing? Girl! What are you doing? I understand people have different boundaries, but you cannot let creeps get away with their behavior, because they'll not only continue but will eventually escalate to something way worse, as it clearly did. Creeps always tell you who they are. He should have been booted way earlier.

To be fair, we don't know on what day this all happened. If this took place on a Saturday evening, it makes sense that the campus authorities haven't reacted yet, since the typing seems to have taken place the day after the event, which would mean that it's a Sunday, and probably no one on campus has even seen that email.
Honestly I feel like as a female-born person that it is part of our 'training' from birth that they push on us. And especially if you grew up when feminism or equality was the butt of every joke. So, in areas like this they tend to give people chances, which is nice but in the wrong individual, it can be a huge wreck. In that, no offense but my heart goes out to everyone involved; including that the troublesome person sought help if this was thier awakening..

I'll be fair on one thing and one thing only. A ring that can turn into any simple or martial weapon isn't inherently broken. If they turned it into a ranged weapon they'd not produce any ammo so they'd need to bring their own. If they turned it into a thrown weapon, well you've just yeet'd your brand spanking new magic item and it's now up for grabs to the world. It also wouldn't have any magic bonus aside from bypassing the normal resistances _but that's nothing a little homebrewing can't fix_
But in situations when you're fighting with a sword against an enemy that might be strong against slashing weapons, you could swap to a bludgeoning weapon and do way more.

Funny story, I was almost attacked for a similar thing at the end of the story. A female at our table told me out of the blue "I almost just slapped you out of that chair 😄" because she felt a gentle touch drag across her leg. Before she knocked me into next week, she realized it was her cats tail as he passed by 😄
I once had the opposite happen to me. I was in class, when I felt a fuzzy rub against my leg, and I screamed, jumped onto my chair, and announced that "There's a MOUSE!" It was really the guy sharing the desk with me, playing footsie in fuzzy socks.

I also feel the valentine game the DM planned sounded like a really bad idea when a player is this sort of problem.
I think the Valentine Idea makes more sense from the DM's perspective considering that romance is a plot point in the RP. We know Dog and Rabbit had a romance plot, and Capi had an NPC they was interested in. It's likely Rat and Cat's in-game characters possibly had some romance, or at the very least, it'd have been easy to do so.
Furthermore, the situation on text is likely different than in reality; the "looks" could've been months prior and forgotten, or the DM thought that it wasn't that big of a deal (naivety, considering how long Rat stayed in the group), etc.
I am seriously worried about Cat's behavior. it sounds like classic behavior from an abused woman.

I have a feeling that college is exactly the place where you'd expect to find roleplay gaming overlap with roleplay sexual fetish and that people 1) don't realize that's what they're actually doing or 2) don't realize there's a difference or 3) are just there to predate on others who think it's just friendly, platonic gaming.

I don’t think grammar is really subjective considering that one thing of grammar is all that’s taught in school and used, both for English and any other language
@@Scruffy-qi3ik Dialects and accents beg to differ. If we really want to be strict about it, any informal speech is generally grammatical incorrect in some way. Most accents are too. Grammar may be objective, but how much of it needs to be applied to casual daily speech is entirely subjective.
@@puffena9013 I don’t disagree with that part, I’m just saying grammar by it’s point isn’t subjective. Also accents are literally of people used to their 1st language and not used to the 2nd-etc. they’re using their own languages grammar with different words. Doesn’t mean that they’re wrong or right. Grammar is still objective, especially to it’s different languages and dialects, but objectivity doesn’t mean that it’s not allowed to be modified a little.
Also aren’t dialects mostly sub-languages of their own with their own rules that just slightly match the main languages?

English is in every way their language, and yet of the several British accents that exist, none of them are without some form of grammar error in common usage. Even the fact that there are several different British accents that all bend or break the rules in different ways is enough to see why some objective view of grammar is pretty dumb. What’s the point of arguing for a thing’s objectivity is nobody actually follows it? Who cares how objective grammar is if everyone has decided that violating it sometimes is completely acceptable. It might as well be subjective at that point, a law everyone is expected to break is barely a law at that point.
And yeah, dialects are like their own little sub-languages, sub languages that only exist as a result of speakers of one language not completely following the grammar rules of it to a point where it differentiates enough to deserve its own categorization.
@@puffena9013 grammar has more to do with how things are said though anyways, things that are objective have loopholes, that’s what separate words and phrases are about, but there’s those important rules that stick in that can’t be changed without causing confusion, such as punctuation, commas, quote marks, periods, exclamation points, and question marks, and etc. grammar applies just as much if notate more important to writing as it does speaking. And as an example of a non English language, Japan has multiple different ways of saying the same thing that are almost different words most of the time just for it to come off in different ways being casual, friendly, mature, and etc. which is a rule that persists between their dialects

As a DM, if you cut me off I'll give you 3 strikes (if you're good I'll reset them) After 3 I start rolling for 10lb bird poops falling from the sky and caving your skull in. I've only had to roll for it once, but after it did 15 points of bludgeoning damage no one cut me off anymore
I don't think he was racist with correcting "ain't" and "gotta". I'm from South Texas and Mexican/white and talk like that everyday 🤣 BUT he was definitely an asshole either way. Just let people talk how they want.
Exactly. He's not in a corporate setting and the people at the table understood him just fine. There was no need to nitpick on combined words you personally wouldn't combine.
As a life-long grammar-nazi, I can honestly say that we have no problem with the word "ain't". It was actually added to the dictionary way back in 1858. Anyone who parrots the phrase, "Ain't isn't a word." Had a lazy teacher and very outdated education.

Her behavior in the end shouldn't be excused either.

I am very thankful for these videos. They have helped me keep an eye out for bad behavior and red flags. I have been able to avoid these problem players by kicking them out immediately. One guy made an underage naked naive dragon girl with a background that involved a "bad encounter with goblins" and I kicked him out right there. No need for explanation, I know what your about.
To be fair, I’ve had several games where I roll 7 or less on *literally every roll I make.* And at a certain point, I just get sick of it and ask for either some mercy or to leave the table if it’s going on for long enough.
We've all had those days.
I lend players dice when I see them rolling low consistently cause sometimes the dice just hate you and will roll bad for you and great for other people....like my cursed dice roll 1s for me, 20s for everyone else. It was a great set to have when I was dming and wanted to show mercy or give an edge to the players.

Im fairly new to D&D but i watch your videos ALOT and they give me great red flags to look out for, especially since i play online because my local irl friends don't play D&D. I've run into some weird situations in my current journey to find a great group and campaign but nothing as horrifying as some of these stories you tell and i hope it stays that way. The subject of your videos scare me sometimes but your commentary keeps me optimistic lol. I appreciate your content and you trying to shed some light on these crazy situations in the best way you can. Much love man keep it up
I don’t know how Capi was able to even be in the same vicinity as Rat. That whole situation made me cringe and creeped out on an extreme level. I’ve dealt with these type of people and the disgust you feel for them makes you sick just even being around them. Idk how he wasn’t kicked out earlier.

Sounds like Cat maybe so invested in having a boyfriend, that she will let Rat do whatever he wants. Its always sad when someone decides to just be the bookmark in someone else's story.
Always love those first few moments where you feel like you might be a problem player because of the early things mentioned (Have trouble with voice input lag and end up accidently interrupting people), followed by the later stuff that makes you go "OK, if I am a problem player, I'm at least not doing that."

17:00 - Yeah, at this point in the story it's OBVIOUS that Cat was enabling this behavior in Rat. I have a LOT of problems with this sort of thing because I've had or known people who've had bad experiences because of it. Lately it seems like too many people with "alternative lifestyles" use that as an excuse to lash out, behave like complete dumbasses, and attack other people for "not understanding".

As a DM and as a player I will address any issues I have right away and then if it persists, kick the player out. I will not passively sit by with uncomfortable behaviour from anyone. I avoid 99% of issues and players like this ever becoming a problem and I've never had a single campaign in 6+ years negatively effected by anyone because of it.

I'm not sure I have an issue with a ring that can turn into any simple or marshal weapon as a Bonus action. I've never seen a lack of mundane versions of these after the first couple of encounters. That one feels more like flavour than useful.
Would be more powerful in older editions where weapon types properly mattered, given they have tieflings in their group that's not the case.
Maybe just with the restriction is can't be like a polearm (with 10 feet melee range) and some restrictions on making it a ranged weapon. There probably wouldn't be an issue then imo. At least compared to a +5 AC i think that's pretty mild.

The only thing I want to say is that people don't blame Cat too much because theirs not enough information. Yes, she could have been a full willing participant in Rats creepy unwanted advances. Either being poly or even being into the cuckolding kink. She also could have been a victim of his abuse.
I have seem many stories of women emotionally, mentally and verbally abused being pressured into accepting their partners infidelity or risk losing the relationship they've been severely manipulated into believing they NEED. There's just not enough info to determine if Cat is an enabler or a victim herself however two things in the story make me lean to the latter.
One being his displayed predatory, controlling and sexist nature. The leering, the unwanted advances, the forced bus ride encounters, ignoring the disinterest and thinking that the characters acceptance to being paired equalled RL consent to groping are all predatory. The correcting of grammar can obviously just mean he's a grammar Nazi but it can also attest to a controlling nature, especially when you include the dice roll issue and his insisting on being over powered in some way. Then the sexism is obvious, chastising Capi, the object of his fetish, when she wouldn't act feminine enough for his liking and saying that girls should "act their gender". This is also another point for controlling as he's literally already trying to control Capis behavior to suit him.
The second being how much she panicked and flipped out when she was spoken to with the intent of making sure she was okay. Then the full blown meltdown she had over him being kicked out rather than Capi just accepting the blatant harassment and assault. This is something A LOT of abuse victims do. Irrationally protect and defend their partner, especially when they think legal trouble might occur, because they have been manipulated into extreme codependence. The thought of losing him being more terrifying than any pain, physical or otherwise. Part of that is also believing and internalizing everything he says and using these taught biases to justify his actions. If he has forced her to believe that women are meant to behave a certain way to please men (which he already demonstrated he has... opinions on) then eventually she would internalize it and expect those same behaviors out of other women. If one of those things were something like "women should be okay with men touching them" then she would be upset by Capi taking agency over her body, rather than submitting like she's been made too. Both are extremely common for abuse victims to do.

Yeah, that was one issue I was thinking about as well. We don't know much about Cat, and it can be that she's either dependent on Rat financially, or being abused by him.
That was one heck of a story, i hope everyone learned their lessons! Dm to be less tolerant of bs. Rat, to not be like that, cat, to respect herself more, capi to let others help and dog and rabbit to keep on chillin, but also speak up.

Someone needs to show rat a dictionary, which includes contractions such as "ain't" and "don't", pretty much disproving any claim that they aren't (are not, in case rat is reading) words.
Just to be clear, "ain't" has long been considered grammatically improper and has only become more widely acceptable in recent times (though I think most English teachers would still be hard pressed to call it "proper"). Part of this is likely due to it having so many possible meanings ("am not", "are not", "is not", "has not", "have not", "do not", "did not", "does not", etc) and therefore being quite ambiguous in terms of tense and meaning. On the other hand, "don't" is just a normal, run-of-the-mill contraction with zero ambiguity (simply combines "do" and "not" and that is it). With all that being said, you have to be a real douche bag to be upset by someone using a few words you don't consider "proper grammar", especially in the context of a group of friends hanging out together, just trying to have fun. While I can certainly sympathize with someone being bothered by a person who radically changes their grammar, and even the way they speak, depending on who they are around, I think everyone does this at least a little bit (do you talk to your best friend the same way you would speak to a girlfriend's mother or father the 1st time you're meeting them?), so I think it is ultimately one of those things you just have to learn to tolerate even if it does bother you (or if you don't care about making friends and socializing... then I guess you're free to do whatever you want).
"Ain't" is an improper contraction. Most dictionaries say it right before the definition. Just because it is in the dictionary doesn't mean it is proper. "That ain't the problem"="That am not/are not the problem." It just doesn't make sense grammatically.

I was fine with this story, some details were starting to strike me as a little odd and I was starting to have some doubts but whatever. Then comes the "for our last session I decided to do a valentine's session with the goddess of love testing the party's romantic attraction" and I'm sorry either this didn't happen or the DM is an idiot. Yes hindsight is 20/20 and sure, I get the not immediately booting him if the target of his harassment said it's fine, perhaps bad judgement but as he says, hindsight is 20/20.
However with the sum totality of this player's behaviour, and the problem every other player has with him and his known harassment towards a female player, if you're going to hold any kind of valentine session you have to uninvite this guy and you certainly don't let HIM pick who he wants to pair with. And then capi accepts it? Is this girl on tranquilisers, does she even know what is happening around her? I don't condone any of Rats behaviour, in fact he's exactly the kind of player I wouldn't want to play with, but I cannot believe we're getting the full unbiased story here. I mean if we are then god, someone in this group seriously needs to grow something resembling a spine, literally anyone.

Somebody being an asshole about bad grammar doesn't make them racist. Correcting grammar isn't racist. Its low class to demand somebody speak the way you want them to, but not "underhanded racism". The grammar Nazi type go after people with southern style vernacular as well. Most of us are white. Its more of a pompous classist style of bullying than anything.
