People talk about Lysacek not being exciting, didn't deserve Oly gold, etc. He's brilliant here. Beautiful positions and technique. A huge quad combo. Secure 3A's. What more could you want? And don't forget the guy is 6'1" tall. A giraffe by skating standards.
Most of my respect for him (and for Bradie Tennell as well) is that they struggled with their height but still managed to be successful in their respective fields. Tennell never won OG (and never will, not with how things are going in the ladies field right now) but she's still doing pretty well.
Unfortunately, by current standards he would have been marked as an underrotation on that Quad Toe. Anyone know if he was or not? The commentator said that it was a minor cheat, yet clean. But again, the quality of his jumps and grade of execution under current IJS may have afforded him the same scores or even better scores. Fan of his skating. We're unlikely to see another skater like him in a long time and one of his height (6'2). When's the last top skater you know of that is over even 6'0 feet?
They are a rarity as the center of gravity for someone that tall is so off center that what is required now to be at the top will be difficult to achieve.
In protocols it was clean, but I agree that it should've been marked as ur. However, it wouldn't change the outcome, as Lysacek had almost 25 points of lead in the free skate, over the second place Ryan Bradley
obviously this was a breakthrough for him...Great jumps and well presented for the most part, but there were some choreographic gaps in this program and some really dumb choreographic bits too. Like he's just standing there doing nothing at the end, his timing is off and he's finished his spin ahead of the music and he didn't think to improvise. And I'd wish in between jump runs there were more field moves that carried the expression of the music particularly lacking was the middle section with the music from the Flower Song that could have had an Ina Bauer or something. Also, Dick talked about Johnny not having the usual fire in the short program...but I felt Evan's skating lacks real Don Jose passion. This was very good, but not an inspirational skate. A little slow and careful.
US Champion, World champion, Gold Medalist. One of the greatest skaters of all time
This is one of the best Carmen’s ever done. Notice his 3axel combo, 3flip combo, and 3lutz were all in the back end of the program.

Brilliant skater
I always love it when Dick Button gets excited about a skater and their program.
I think that's Brian boytano being epically jealous.
One of the great legends
Soooooo beautiful!
Flawless!!
He’s very very cooool!!
BRAVO! Great skate.
He’s tall which made him look much different compared to the normal height kids in the sport. He would have made a gorgeous pairs skater
Brian oh he cheated on the quad route.
DELICIOUS

ikr. Nowadays single's skaters' average heights are getting shorter and shorter.
