Willy Wonka is clearly a messed up individual with a lot of secrets going on in that head of his. That means that the classic movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory starring Gene Wilder is RIPE for fan theories. And to a certain extend, the weird Johnny Depp version “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” What bizarre things is Willy Wonka REALLY up to? That’s exactly what we’re looking at in today’s theory battle. Was the whole golden ticket thing an elaborately executed child recruitment plan with human agents placed all around the world? Was Willy Wonka giving the factory to Charlie actually a PUNISHMENT? Check out these two amazing theories and let us know which one is the most likely to be true!

10:00 The golden tickets HAD TO BE PLANNED. How else would "Slugworth" know where to be?
Well the news reporters knew where to be too.
@@andrewpitts955 that is true but slug worth had to be in multiple countries on short notice and the reporter were most likely local pluse he had to get a disguise redy for each one
Andrew Pitts News reporter wasn’t there for Charlie.
Yes. I din't think this was a theory but more obviously part of the plot. At least they knew exactly where each ticket was going to be if not who was going to get it.
@@maoribrotha53 that the reason only slugworth visit charlie.he diguise as onebof reporter to give pride to the rest of disguise as a normal man to charlie
I have always liked the 7 deadly sins theory: Augustus = Gluttony, Veruca = Greed, Violet = Pride (in her gum chewing), Mike = Wrath (BANG*, you’re dead), Charlie = Envy, Grandpa Joe = Sloth (he laid in bed for twenty years while his daughter supported family, but can suddenly dance when HE gets a golden ticket), and Wonka= Lust (for life!)
Enslaving an entire tribe for greed and chocolate is tight.....and super easy, barely an inconvenience
*cringes* Why would you do that?!
SHUT UP I LOVE CHOCOLATE
He does poop.
Bet those supermarkets aren't real..
What does USA's OSHA have to do with UK made film?
I really like the idea of the first theory - along with the idea that ideally all five kids, if they were all less selfish and flawed, would work together to be the best owner. Augustus has deep passion, Violet is goal-oriented, Veruca is willing to do whatever to get what she wants, Mike is smart and has a critical lens, and Charlie is kind and the beating heart who wants to retain the joy and whimsy at the heart of the factory.
We need a variation of the movie where this happens.
I like this idea too, I also though of a scenario where the kids redeem themselves.
@@kingofhearts3831 Agree, which is why I am doing that on one of my versions of the story.
They all ended up running a train in the future together
Chris Haigh L
So... Why couldn't both be true?
I agree
Agreed
Again, both theories could work together perfectly
I like the theory where snowpiercer is the sequel to Willy Wonka
I agree
The guy who made it is a real jerk though
Also, the guy couldn't spell for siht
@@RhinoStew who? Roald Dahl?

To be honest I always thought the first theory was just a given . The kids were all chosen and all given tests to pass , they all failed ... but Charlie was actually a good unspoiled kid who had a big heart and imagination. These were the qualities Wonka was looking for , he couldn't hand off all the powers to some one who might use them for evil. Remember, Wonka has ways to go to different realms and has science more advanced then us . He hasn't gone insane hes just given up on humanity and was afraid all his gifts would die with him .
I thought that the gobstopper test was a clever idea! Here he was looking for a successer to take over his factory when he retires. He had a bad experience when his ordinary workers betrayed him when they stolen his secret recipes for his rival Slugworth. He didn't want to pick a child only for him or her to betray him again. I thought it was sad that the other four children couldn't be trusted. Because their own parents corrupted them. So Charlie was that diamond in the rough.

The golden ticket winners were selected by candy men
I agree
Both theories could work
yeah. They complement each other. A real theory battle should be about the same thing.
I think the first one should win, mainly because it sounds like something the movie makers could have actually thought of.
theory number 1 that makes the most sense
2 is more accurate
You just like it more
Susan D. Well pf course he doesnif he didnt like it more than he would choose number 2 idot
I just meant that that was the only reason not that it was more logical
Agreed
Willie Wonka is basically SAW
with Charlie basically being Amanda
Theory #1 is more plausible in my opinion. How would slugworth know where to be at the right time? Theory #2 is also plausible, but I like the idea of the first one better.
Got to go with "The whole thing is planned". Furthermore as well as the chosen kids not being random, I think the tests aren't random either. Think about it- you could have restricted that tour, closed off areas, made sure people only went where you needed them to go. That and the fact the Oompa Loompas have song and dance numbers at the ready. IT'S ALL A TEST!
I like the theory about Willy Wonka passing on the imminent OSHA violations to some poor child. Because it's hilariously evil and I love it.
Theory 1 I have always assumed that , at least from the book, Wonka chose each child and chose a fitting punishment/ reward for each of them. Theory 2 does not seem to make sense.

"Hello Internet! Welcome to Film Th-"
Oh wait wrong channel
I have a theory.
Wonka was just a sadist. Took way too much fun in the kid's suffering 😁
no
Screen rant > Watch mojo
The factory isn't in the US, so... no OSHA.
Right...its nationality is ambiguous. The place feels British, like Yorkshire or somewhere like it. But the culture felt American. And I think the names of the locals were Eastern European.
Mentioning pitch meetings in theory battles are super easy, barely an inconvenience.
I think both! It could work and they make good arguments that are hard to ignore
Did the 1971 Willy Wonka Film have a lot more OSHA Laws Broken then the 2005 Film How many OSHA's Broken in the 2005 Film as will as the 1971 Film!
I agree like everyone else that both could and would work but I also believe that the first one is just a little bit more to the point. I say this for 2 reasons. Slugworth was in the different cities when the tickets were found and secondly in Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator (Roald Dahl's sequel) it gets mentioned.
If you think of it both theories can work together. Who would be the best fit to continue to run Wonka's factory? And if things go downhill, who would be left to take the fall?
Willy Wonka is a Wizard? No one can make candy that creative and tasty!
Star Joker you're not the only one who thinks this. I belive that Wonka is a wizard of chocolate too. If you read the book even Grandpa Joe declares that when Charlie said that he knew that Mr. Wonka was famous and clever.
It was a joke
FINALLY!! Another theory battle!!
Theory number 2 because I saw matpat's video was really convincing
I like your two theories. Keep up the good work guys
Yay! Theory battles are back!
I got your candy where u at
It is quite also interesting what different endings the original and the reboot have. Original: Granpa steals stuff from Willy Wonka and makes Charlie also steal it (drinking the unfinished Soda which got them nearly killed). Reboot: Non of them does anything against the rules. Willy asks Charlie to leave his family, since he left his family back then aswell and once he did return, his father was gone (feeling betrayed and might not want to have Charlie betrayed by his own family after he would now become a new owner). While in the original Charlie gives the candy back to Willy, in the Reboot Charlie connects Willy with the lost father.
Theory battles are tight!
Great video guys! I love this series
There is no way this Ryan George. Which Ryan is this? He sounds nothing like himself on all his professional audio quality recordings from Pitch Meetings and Ryan George.
I think I am more willing to subscribe to Theory #1. Even though it is nothing more than the equivalent of explaining away plot armor (if this were another movie) & diminishes the 'coincidence magic' of the movie.. It makes perfect sense and sounds completely likely.
I did find #2 amusing though. I seem to remember Robot Chicken(?) did a bit about that very thing. Where Charlie ended up convicted for all the dead children & sentenced to be executed, and Willy retired to the south seas to live in luxury after evading all legal responsibility for child murder. it was quite funny.
Here’s my theory: Wonka is actually a serial killer.
Fear Loomecy took care of that
Could you do a theory battle for the 2005 version Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
9:20 So let’s run through a quick recap so we can get this video over 10 minutes long
In the movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, one of Charlie's grandfathers had work at the factory before Willy Wonka had closed it. Strangely, Willy Wonka have known the grandfather because he was a loyal worker. Except for Willy Wonka's mistake, he had chosen Charlie to be a candidate for his successor likely because Charlie's grandfather had work for him. Wonka's mistake was assuming that Charlie will abandon his family. Yet, Wonka's mistake was added to make Charlie and the Chocolate Factory different from the first movie.
I like them both. They both make a lot of sense.
Also 9:46
"...insane in the membrane."
Theory battles are tight
I like the theory of the golden tickets not being random. However, I have heard of a really dark theory about Willy Wonka making candy from the kids. Part of that theory explains how the Oopha Lumpas (sp?) already had songs prepared for the kids. I heard this theory on RUclips.
I like both theorys they both make good sense.
genuinely hilarious. well done.
So where does Snowpiercer fit into all this fellas?
Snowpiercer is the best theory Imo also you should do a video on arguing the points for and against...
You should do a SR on Kids from the 90s
My theory is that Wonca murdered children to turn them into sweets Augusto would be chocolate Violeta would be something blackberry Charly it would have been a soda why he managed to survive burping Veruca would be a golden egg or something and Miguel TV would be one of those sweets like Twisters
That’s kinda dark... 😕
@@gen5fan293 thats the point ❤
As much as I don't want it to, as much as the second one made sense, I think the first one is the most probable. On top of all of that there's the fact that the the man claiming to be Slugworth was always right there nearby, waiting to swoop in and talk to the kids. Then there's the timing of all the winnings, during the contest none of the prices were discounted, and the contest was implied to have lasted for a while. So during that whole time people were buying chocolate bars like crazy at full price. Definitely great for business.
"Reese cups" ? Um, I think you mean "Reese's cups" jeez... As an American, I expect everything to be tailored to my experience
I don't think the one about the punishment. I think it's kind of confirmed that the tickets weren't random. I mean, Wilkonson just happening to be nearby whenever someone wins a ticket? That seems pretty suspicious to me.
Rob's theory is my favorite!!!!
Ryan's theory was the best one!!!
Another good theory to add to #2. The movie Snowpiercer the leader of the train is Charlie in the future.
I prefer the theory that it's actually a portrayal of Dante's Inferno, where Willy Wonka is Virgil leading them through it. The horrifying boat scene is crossing the River Styx and everyone gets ironic punishments. Charlie makes his way through it and has to "pay his dues" by taking over the factory, much like in The Inferno where the narrator makes his way through hell only to reach purgatory.
The fact that Slugworth happened to be at all the ticket reveals suggests that the winners were predetermined.
Willy Wonka was Kevin's (Home Alone) mentor, who grows up to be Jigsaw (Saw). :p
How did the Candyman decide Charlie had a good heart?
Well, he comes back to buy a candy bar for Grandpa Joe.
You mean the candy bar that he opens up outside without ever giving to his Grandpa?
That’s the one.
The first theory was the best.
I like Mat Pat's theory: Charlie Wonka is a serial killer...
I have the Reese's cups but I couldn't find Malteasers would Whoppers work?
Why do theory battles always keep me awake at night? I don't understand it.
Theory number 2 is tight
Theory One is right except it wasnt random who got the tickets , the children were chosen , why did he chose the ones he did I dont know, but the whole factory was fitted for the children, each child has a room designed for them, except charlie.
Well I think that taking over the punishment, especially if it follows the theory that Charlie goes onto grow up to be the Ed Harris’ caretaker in the movie “SnowPiercer” I think that theory further holds up.
Willy Wonka is a prequel to “SnowPiercer”
When Charlie finds the ticket, someone helps him escape the crowd and call him by his first name. This might go to the fact that Willy Wonka had multiple proxy employees making sure the ticket gets to Charlie.
I always did kinda wonder why it was all kids that found the tickets. Makes sense that Mr. Wonka set the whole thing up.
I think in the book the contest specifies that only a child can use a golden ticket.
1st theory is best but the other one is great as well
I feel like they both could be true. I mean, there could be even a third part to it.
Rob's theory is better explained by The Theorizer who actually came up with the theory first. Nice to see at least Ryan credits his sources.
He places traps for each kid to fall for and kills them then takes the corpses and mixes them with his candy
I like the first theory, it makes the most since.
A Mixture of both theories
Can you guys make it in a poll instead of comments so we see who actually wins plz
Yes it's back
What about the WonkaPearcer theory?
Finally new theory battle
You guys need to do a video for Jim Henson's Labyrinth!!!!
The golden tickets were planned, the remake/better version of the original book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it explores this concept through the music. It was all prepared in advance.
I don’t see any actual conflict between the theories, and they both make sense.
The tickets being planned makes more sense. The movie was made in the 70's, but the book was written before that. This just blows a big ol' hole in the second theory. Plus I think Wonka was already crazy before he even created the factory. Crazy came first, not second.
Whooooo THEORY BATTLE
Both theories are good, both have merits and could be true. I must go for the 1st though, after watching this movie over 100 times, I have spent a lot of time musing on what, where and why Wonka does what Wonka does. I am going to say the 1st theory makes more sense.
I think both you golden ticket winners were selected but its a sort punishment like the health violations etc
I think the 2 theories could innertwine wonka hired candy men to choose what kid gets a ticket they had no idea that wonka would be using them to punish one of the children by giving them the factory after all the OSHA violations were to be discovered
I like both theories. :)
You referred Film Theory and on his channel he did both so both are correct.
My theory:
He is putting carrots into a type of acid...then they grow into human form...then he clones them...and BAM!!! OOMPA LOOMPAS!!!!
Theory 2 sounds a bit *more* like mine. Only because it’s dark. My theory is that Wonka purposely sent it to these children. Purposely, 4 of them were brats and 1 was warm - hearted. This is were it gets a bit... *dark*. He wanted to *spy* on children to see what they were like and if they would be fit for a finder. Charlie was the perfect fit so he sent a golden ticket to Charlie. The other 4 were brats so he decided to pick *them as well*. You may be wonder “Why?” But this is why. Wonka wanted to teach the 4 brats and their parents a lesson, and Charlie and his family to be rewarded for being very sweet.
DazzleCat_xox I get it!
In the book, the kids all survived. I have to imagine in the movie that is also the case.
They should put a link to the video they recommended to be watched
Charlie is the guy from the train on that other movie where the world froze or something
Legal Eagle went over all the laws broken in this movie and talked about all the taxes Charlie would owe.
The first theory is the only one that makes sense.
Even if Charlie did have the company given to him, he's a child and doesn't have the legal capacity to be in charge. Not only that, but Wonka would be the one who would have to pay the fine anyway because he was the one the world knew was in charge of the place for years.
Future theory idea: August Walker wasn't lying when he said he wasn't lark and he was playing a role, the real lark is the white widow. Rewatch for further details
Hey Ryan, at 4:12 did you say 'berry true' when talkin' 'bout the girl who became a blueberry...?
