    AWESOME!! I'm originally a flute player in concert band, but I was selected to be in jazz band to play the tenor sax. I asked my director why the tenor and he explained to me that the tenor and the flute have almost exactly the same fingerings. I made a long sound, ( just started playing ) but I need to learn how to keep my sound steady and clear. It will take a little, but I'm making progress thanks to your videos! Thanks so much!!!

      I hope you have a good day Mr.Hunter. I have a question for you
      that could be a little weird.
      I am a 73 years old man....but ...in very good shape...( please sorry my
      bad English....My language is the spanish)
      When I was young ( 25),I took sax lessons with a very..very good professor....I had an alto sax...
      I was learning very fast.From the beginning...the sax...for
      me...was " the most dear instrument in the world."...
      But.....My professor died...
      I left the practice and sold the instrument....
      Three years ago,I got a tenor sax that I try to play a little.
      And....now is the question..
      Could I learn to play sax....??
      Waiting your answer.My best regards. Carlos Roda

    I am confused. I am playing along with keys and wondering why the instrument is tuned down? Those notes are A, G, and F on my keyboard. I double checked on a ukulele just to make sure I was right. I'm looking into sax to see if it is something I want to learn.

    • @RandyHunter
      @RandyHunter  5 лет назад +4

      Hi Ann! Thanks for your comment and question. The answer in a nutshell is that saxophone is a transposed instrument- meaning that the notes on sax don't sound the same as the notes on piano (or ukelele for that matter). The B, A, and G on tenor sax should sound like the A, G, and F on piano. In fact, I published a video on this just a couple of weeks ago. Just do a quicxk RUclips search for: Questions About Saxophone Transposition? and it should pop up. Or you can send me an email and I'll send you a direct link. Let me know if you have more questions.

    when i press the "G" note on my tenor saxophone, an F note is played instead... does anyone know why?

    • @RandyHunter
      @RandyHunter  7 лет назад +3

      G on tenor sax is F concert, so if you're comparing it to a tuner and it says F, that's correct. No problem.

    • @PrinceSwaggy
      @PrinceSwaggy 6 лет назад +1

      Toby Loessing it's in the key of B Flat so it will always be a note higher then concert pitch

  • @hex1531

    So tenor and alto have the same keys

    • @RandyHunter
      @RandyHunter  8 лет назад +3

      Yes, the keys are the same and the notes are the same. You will learn about transposition for alto and tenor once you start playing, but it does not affect the fingering of the notes.
