I’ve heard Albert explain on MLB network with Harold renolds when he was with the angels ”it’s always knob to the ball” and show his knob going down to the ball on a tee instead of from the pitchers hand. He demonstrates this move with the barrel above his hands moving the knob down. Recently I saw a video of him explaining to Ortiz’s son the opposite move with the barrel moving rearward. IMO I think Albert had a revelation of his swing and what was actually happening in his swing when he was with the cardinals.
Great explanation. If the light bulb doesn't at least flicker for others after watching this, I'm not sure they'll ever fully get it. Too many people are stuck in what they've been taught and too hard-headed to change they way they think. I need to really study this so I can relay it to my players this upcoming season. Thank you.
What I see: He goes down in both cases. But in a game you gotta be ready to rip instantly. Your shift is less important. the pitchers velocity will push the ball for the most part anyways. off a tee, you need to generate the power so you must exaggerate the load & shift. Its amazing how wide and low he gets in games. it looks uncomfortable and like he would have no power but the smooth swing and incoming speed compensates, i think.
Hi, So how do you swing when you have to hit an inside pitch, low? You do not want to swing horizontal, correct? So don't you have to swing up? How does the swing look when you have to swing initially down, and then up, hands inside the ball? I am confused.
When you master the 3d loading, and have a good stretch, then is the launch, everything must happen behind your corner, no pushing just snapping your hands, and tilting
Perhaps you mentioned this in other videos but do you concern yourself with how bat is gripped or is that “door knob knuckles” alignment not really important?
This is what all the Japanese coaches who have misperception towards hitting should learn. They don't know the mechanics of "Swinging Down" in a proper meaning.
Excellent explanation of the difference in the swings, Coach! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!

Try showing slow motion

Is the title misleading? It makes it sound like the swing should be down.
Rich, simple, he’s working upper body and not worried about his lower half mechanics
Someone sees exactly what was going on in the video on the right.
Yeah, he says that in the video. 😂
At bat swings never lie
But does the 💩 stay in the 🪠 ?
Pretty 💩 way of determining a good swing
Haha
I-...what?
Absolutely amazing work
