I disagree, although that is more of a statement against Katy Perry than it is in favor of Jason DeRulo. Katy Perry got popular in the era of Lady Gaga and Ke$ha, the era of (trashy) pop at its relative peak, so Katy Perry's time was always going to be short unless she had some personal renaissance. On the other hand, Jason DeRulo's *lack* of personality is the reason he survived into the 2010s and now to 2020, as he can easily adapt to whatever brand of skeevy, I-(want to)-have-sex-with-you song is popular at the time. Even Todd said as much in one of his videos regarding Jason DeRulo's personality. So it's not surprising that DeRulo outlived Katy Perry, but that's sadly only because the latter was always damned to irrelevance someday and because for the former, singing about banging women or wanting to in a way that makes it clear you don't actually respect the opposite sex has never taken out of favor.
As a child actor vs as a child singer, I think Selena’s strengths DEFINITELY lie in acting, and that’s what really matured with her. Only Murders In The Building is absolutely fantastic.
She is SO good in that show, playing opposite legends too! She could have skipped all those boring pop tracks and announced her maturity performing twelve months in something off Broadway. Fits her a lot better.

Her songs with the scene were her best work but she’s pretty and charismatic I believe she would have become famous even if she didn’t have a head start into child acting
I remember when she did spring breakers and everyone was freaking out. But i feel like it showed that her talent really is in acting, she does well in dramatic mature roles

As someone who listened to blackpink since their debut, and have loved everything they have put out, I can’t tell you just how badly I wanted to like ice cream😭 I just didn’t, I really wished that sour candy got more attention than ice cream
I agree. Maybe if they stopped trying to cater to the Western artists/audience it would’ve been better. If people in the West are gonna like a Blackpink song it should be one that sounds like kpop, not like some mind-numbingly repetitive American pop radio hit.
I don't like sour candy either. I like kiss and make up, see u later and kick it. I honestly only like these three songs along with stay. Other bp songs became quite old now. Lsg is a new style for bp and they slayed it. I loved that song but not as much as You Never Know and Crazy Over You in THE ALBUM. Ice cream was...... Tbh.... I literally only heard it like 3 or 4 times. It just wasn't good. I think that's one of their only song which was this disliked. Anyways they are having a cb soon and LS1 and Snowdrop. I'm waiting...
the worst part about savage love is that jason only put bts on there cause he knew their fandom was strong. he even said he “didn’t know who they were” and he didn’t even credit them for a long time.
Agreed. I don't like the song, but it had been out for MONTHS and as soon as BTS got involved it shot to #1. It was a clearly desperate effort to become relevant, which ended up working, but the people who actually made it work didn't really get the credit.
Exactly! And when he had that party (during a pandemic even) he didn’t acknowledge BTS or the other producer featured at all and acted like it was a song by him alone that won #1
Thank you for noticing!!! As a BTS fan when we noticed that they didn’t get credit for the song even though we were the ones who made it go to number one we confronted him about it and people called us toxic and told us we were overreacting. It isn’t fair in my opinion I believe artists should be credited, especially since they did so much for that song. People would’ve rioted if it were another group or artist who worked with him and didn’t get credit but just because it’s BTS no one really cared except for ARMY. :(

I like the old country music (that wasn’t about partying) like the songs with actually heart, and that have a story to them besides getting blackout drunk. I just wish country music wasn’t just about being from the country, it should be more then that.

I think it's a reflection of the general nihilism of rural America. They've been so exploited for so long that the general culture has slowly been poisoned into thinking that drinking and buying expensive trucks are the best life will ever get, so why not enjoy that tiny bit as you slowly drown in capitalism?

I saw a video that listed the most popular korean songs of the decade, and you can just see it go downhill as it went on. even being a fan for almost a decade you can just naturally tell. Sure they achieved massive western appeal and gathered a lot of interest in korean culture itself, but at what cost and to the one guy that replied i am fully aware that the genre was always westernized to some degree, obviously there was a lot of influence from the west but it still was unique enough to be something completely different. that was my point

The first two months of 2020 were more like 2019's post-credits scenes. The early March panic buying and nationwide shutdown in Italy was the beginning of the end (and even then we still thought it was hysteria that would blow over in a few weeks). Then Mid-March came when a global pandemic was declared and the world's reaction to COVID did a *complete* 180 overnight from us laughing at the stupidity of people panic buying for no reason and thinking it was all hype, to everything shutting down and us *genuinely* thinking we were all screwed.

@@elizabethperry2622- and I really didn't need to find out that The Weekend was fucking & doing BDSM play with her, which explains an awful lot about how horrible THE IDOL became....
No, I'm not kink shaming, but The Weekend feels like he's decades older than her… Even though there's like only two years' difference between them. 😮
Her songs with the scene were her best work but she’s pretty and charismatic I believe she would have become famous even if she didn’t have a head start into child acting

And then there were people who stated yummy stood for pizza gate which is very...unlikely
But yet it still got a grammy. guess the worst strategies work

For someone who does actually like BLACKPINK quite a lot, Ice Cream is soooo bad. I was so furious, because it felt so much like it was made for Selena. Glad I wasn’t the only one feeling like that!
I find BLACKPINK overrated and I feel this so much as well. This is totally a cookie cutter Selena song.
@@rayelgatubelo I mean with Selena there isn’t much leeway with how much you can do
Dude. Fucking same. I felt like I was in the complete minority.
@@rayelgatubelo preach! Their songs are so shallow once you do analyze the lyrics and meaning not to mention coming from one of the shadiest entertainment company 🙄
Is there something wrong with me if I like the beat to "Ice Cream"? Everyone seems to hate it, but I think it slaps. I also like the beat to a lot of songs people hate like "Intentions", "Toosie Slide", "Sunday Best", "Falling" and "Nobody Love"! I don't like the beats to songs everyone likes such as "Blinding Lights", "Don't Start Now", "Watermelon Sugar", and "The Box". I find them too boring and four-chordy. After everything that 2020 has thrown at me, I think finding out that Jason Derulo had a hit this year finally broke me. It's just so comically, nonsensically appropriate. It's somehow perfect and intolerable at the same time.

My mind still spazzes out when I get remembered Gwen Stefani started off as Ska
I was a pretty big no doubt fan in 1995-96. It still blows my mind that she became a solo pop star and is with Blake Shelton. It was a long and slow transition..
@@Bradley_Lute The Hollaback girl release truelly was the tipping point in her career, although even while in No Doubt, it did slowly with time become more like the pop punk equivalent of Ska music, i mean, "It's my life" is more or less just a pop song with real instrumentation, oddly enough the band didn't last long after that release even though it was insanely popular and was played on MTV every 15 mins.
The early 00s was such a weird time in music, where the mainstream US pop industry adopted European EDM as a replacement for R'n'B, and ended up with this weird mix of just weird electronic fads and big, but simple vocals. Like everything turned into an anthem all of a sudden

I remember talking about it in my college class and one girl mentioned that her department was shutting down class for the rest of the semester. Thought it was such an overreaction, then I woke up the next morning to a notification that all CUNY schools were shutting down for the year. Insane how fast that shit moved.
