Plantar Fasciitis- Get Rid Of It Forever

  • Plantar fasciitis, or pain on the inside of the heel, actually doesn’t typically start in the foot! Tightness in the calf muscles and weakness in the hip and glute muscles, cause the foot to roll in more and put stress on the fascia.
To get rid of plantar fasciitis forever, you need to address both of these issues.

    I am so thankful!
Recently I was treated , they stuck me in a walking cast. What a disaster! My entire body was effected negatively .
Wish I saw this a year ago.
I gotta say, respectfully, Gotta love what you teach us.. 😘

It was like stepping on a roofing tack every step! That's the pain I felt for better part of a year while a 'specialist' shot me up with cortisone. Bought some very expensive sneakers specifically designed for PF. Had in one foot, then the other. Finally got them to both relax after a year/half. Stretch stretch stretch....make stretching a part of your life...you'll thank yourself later.

I got the cortisone shots too. The shots caused me to “fail” a bone density test because they check the heel.
So I started stretching exercises. Though not as good as these. I also got footwear with good support. For me it was Danner hiking boots with Powerstep insole. Plus Keen sandals with the ergonomic footbed. The Newport model. I also have 2 pair of Nikes but seldom wear them even though they were the most rigid shoes I could find.
I am on my feet a lot. I used to earn a living mowing lawns. I would wear out a pair of boots and a pair of sandals every season.
Now that I am retired I just walk the dogs every morning. 5 miles. They jump in and out of a converted baby stroller because they are older and can not walk 5 miles any more.

I had it for almost two years. It only started to get better in the last 6 months when I started massaging my calves every morning before getting out of bed and putting the plantar under pressure when I first stood up. I endorse everything I've just seen in this video which I eventually discovered by trial and error. I had it a long time, but I've been free of pain for about 7 years now, so there is hope!

For me stretching helped but it was not enough. Once I started to strengthen my calves I saw immediate progress. I stand on a stair and slowly do heel raises. 3 sets of 12. Going all the way up and down. This made a noticeable difference after a week. I have been doing it every other day for a couple of months. I have suffered with this condition through the years but for me it has made a difference. I’m not suggesting this will work for you but it has worked for me.

Thank you, Kristie. I've just watched several other videos on this issue regarding my plantar. You really opened up my avenues of relief. You mentioned stretching the calf: that's something I had noticed was tight for weeks, now, right down to the achilles tendon. You mentioned the hip being associated with the plantar pain: I did something a couple months ago that affected my hip. I didn't stop to realize that these were all "connected" and could be the root cause of my plantar pain. I'm gonna do your exercise/stretches tonight and every day until relief is attained. I used to stretch my body several times a day for years(about 25+). It's obvious, stretching is important to the day you leave this world! I've saved you video so, I can review it, as needed. Thank you, again.

Thank you For this! I’ve been an LMP for OVER 13 years and I’ve been struggling with foot plantar pain. I hate when people just tell people to work mostly on their foot because I see it in my clients all the way up to the hips. This was fabulous because I didn’t know the thing about the steps. It helps connect some dots as to maybe why I’m getting the pain and what I can do about it. Especially with my gait. Now I guess releasing tight hips getting them stronger. This also made sense with the joint releasing as to why chiropractic adjustments on my foot and ankle really help my foot pain.

I've been suffering from this for two months now - it is indeed painful, I've lost a few nights sleep over it. I'm pretty sure now that it was caused by the steel toe work boots I wear for work. I do like doing these in the morning to get blood flow going, since not moving all night tends to make things worse.

Inserts are appropriate for the right foot type. Not everyone needs them:)

If you are on your feet for a long time, check the size of your footwear. If your big toe is pressing on the front ,then you will develop plantar fasciitis.Your footwear should be 1/2 size bigger and wear shoe inserts that have arch support n heel cushion.I know this from my own experience.

@@sadiyanasir7501 My surgery was laparoscopic. I had 2 small incisions on both sides of my foot. I had to wear some kind of blue shoe for a few weeks. I also slept in shoe for a while to keep it from growing back together. It wasn't painful. I actually had both feet done at once.

    • @drkristieennis

You’re welcome! It can certainly cause you to change the way you are walking which can cause knee issues.
Also, if there is calf tightness, that can cause both PF and knee pain.

I have not been able to go without wearing sneakers or shoes since 1995 when I had my first occurrence of this. I have a flareup at the moment and stretching seems to be just making it worse. But I know that I don’t have a choice but to stretch my calf muscles. When I lived where there were stairs, I didn’t even know I had an issue that could be chronic. Living with there are no stairs is the worst thing for this injury. It’s so difficult to do the stretches because I’m so afraid I’m going to make things worse, and it does feel like it is worse every time. I was fine for years until I moved here where there are no stairs, except for one step up and one step down over and over and over. Sounds like repetitive stress. Also, I would warn anyone against steroid injections. I allowed a doctor to do that in 1996 and I developed RSD. My ankle is locking up over and over now. I did not stretch for a long time. And this is what happens if you stop stretching. However, as I said, I have an extremely difficult time stretching without injuring. I wear (not too tight) compression socks at night and in the morning my feet feel better until I do too much. But trying to walk around after getting up is impossible until I wrap my calf muscles in hot water soaked towels for several minutes. I feel as if I have a case of this that I have not had for over 20 years.

Dr. Ennis, I have had PF for 9 months.Your tips are helpful. I have been doing stretches this entire time. Several times a day. It helps, but my PF is still very prevalent. I haven’t been able to get back to my daily walks. I am a golfer and think the Pronation in the PF is caused with the turn of the foot during the golf swing. I wear a ankle compression support when golfing for 6 months now. When shopping it gets to sore, I stretch for 10 minutes then roll the foot on ice and that relieves the tightness. I started using your taping method 3 months ago and it helps a lot, but still I have the problem. Can you give suggestions what else I can do specifically for PF for the golfer?

It might help to work on strengthening the calf, hip, and ankle muscles. Heel raises with a slow lower to work on the eccentric (lengthening) component, tandem and single leg exercises with rotation of the trunk to get the lower leg muscles to kick in. Try this hip video too:
      ruclips.net/video/0JIdbgbjwdM/видео.html
The other thing I will add in for my patients is dry needling if it’s needed. Check with your local chiropractor or PT to see if they offer that.

      My solution with immediate relief:
      1) Sit down, bring your foot up where you can reach it and start rotations, clockwise for 1 minute then counterclockwise for 1 minute. Don't do it super fast and make sure you are getting a full rotation.
      2) Walk a little bit
      3) Repeat Steps 1 and 2. You should notice a significant improvement.
      4) Combine these steps with calf stretch and massage plantar with your thumbs.

After the 4th session I felt good and played a game and since then I feel the pain not as much like before physiotherapy. My question is how long should I wait before going back to playing/working out actively after physiotherapy?

And to make matters worse I fell off a ladder this passed July 2021 while painting my room and both my feet haven’t been right since. 😢
I’m in constant pain. I saw a specialist who said I have peroneal tendinitis in one foot yet I went to him for both feet and he sent me to do PT. I’m at my wits end. 😢
