I got on of these for a gift today. The woman who sells them makes playing them look so easy. I love the tone so much and I'm going to practice playing the Tibetan singing bowl every day. I'm sure with practice and patients I'll be able to do it.
Thanks for this video! I bought a singing bowl a couple weeks ago and I've been having a lot of trouble playing it. Today I was able to get it to sing very loudly for the first time!
I know it has been a long time since you posted this video, but I wanted to say thanks for your instruction. The placement of the fingers on the flat bottom of the bowl made the difference. I struggled for a week. It is a joy to play now.
Thank you for this video. I see it’s been up for a while & I just came across it. I just got my first small hand hammered brass singing bowl & I appreciate learning how to play it and especially 2 ways to hold it. It was tricky to balance on my palm as it’s so light. The finger tip hold works much better for me. Thanks. 👌👍
Thank you for showing how to play singing bowl. I have watched other videos and their techniques did not work but yours did. I am so happy my singing bowl is singing!!!
Nice playing of Singing bowl and his way of playing the Singing bowl is just right way ,,,,,neither kncking nor beatinng ,scrubing the edge of Singing bowl with relax or calm mind ,,,,,
Hi Hemerson11, I think it doesn't matter really, though just as a side note, Tibetans almost always do stuff in a clockwise direction, following the traditional direction of prayer paths. (The original Bon people do the opposite but there are few of these left in this tradition.) The biggest tip is to hold the mallet very firmly against the bowl -- that seems to make the biggest difference when learning to play. Best of luck to you!
Thank you for this. I just bought a bowl online and I had no idea how to play it. I was hammering on it like a drum. You showed me what to do. If I buy another, I will go through you. I can tell your bowl is much nicer. Mine has rough spots. Thanks again
Hi Michael, sorry for the long delay in responding! You can use only wood. The one in the video has some cloth on it. Not sure what is traditional. Sorry that we can't be more helpful! Maybe try to ask Joseph at himalayanbowls.com. He knows much more than us! Thanks for your nice thoughts!
Thanks for writing, Marc. We are not experts about singing bowls, but if we had this question, we would check with the owner at Himalayan Bowls, Joseph Feinstein. (You can Google it, since we can't put links in these comments.) He seems extremely knowledgeable. All the best to you!
wow. that was beautiful. I was told to buy one . problem is I have to online because where I am they don't believe in this. Very conservative. so nutshell ...Palm or fingertip hold strike once and then rotate hammer around outside of bowl ? Thanks.
Thank you for the instruction on how to use. I have a question. I got a singing bowl and just a little above the top there is a slight needle size hole. It may be from the mold. Is it normal? Or do I need to get it fixed?
My friend, who does a lot of yoga, has this. She has one of this, and she played it for more than 10 minutes ( yep, she practices ) while mine ended in few seconds. She said we have to concentrate harder to make the sound. Is it true that concentration helps the bowl to make sound??
I am trying but its not happening.. its not playing.. the man in shop was playing it just like u and I am trying but i can't produce the sound.. maybe i am not holding mallet the right way but i don't know how to
Make sure your hand is flat that way you're touching only the bottom and not the edges. If you touch too high on the sides your hand will absorb the vibrations. All the sound is the build up of the vibrations circulating through the bowl.
Paola Gonzalez Hi Paola. That's great you have these bowls. Sorry, we don't have any special tips for playing them all at once. Let us know if you get some.

Absolutely, you will!

We are so glad to help! May you be well.
Thanks for this. Didn't realise that was all there was to playing it. Seems pretty straight forward. Almost anyone can play it without much effort.
You're welcome, Jess! Yes, it's usually pretty easy :-)
This was very helpful, thank you 🧘🏻♀️💜
Thank you up until now and I watched your video I did not know how
to play my bowl.
Wonderful!
I have one and am learning how to play it properly. Do you play it only in a clockwise direction or does it not matter?
its serene and calm like sages meditate here in India
thank you for your help

Does it matter that my mallet is only wood? I saw some people playing with leather and wool, too. What is the traditional method? Thank you!

Michael Carlton Michael Carlton ...handsome :-)
Are you circling at the rim, or on the curve of the bowl? My bad eyes cannot see lol
Nice sounds. I love those things.
Thank you Marco!

Thank you!!!!
What size bowl is that, the tone it is what I am looking for I feel like
Can you use both sides of the striking tool to strike the bowl or is it recommended to only use the cushioned or plain wood side?
Thank you so so much. Namaste xx
You are so very welcome, Leticia. Thanks for your nice message!
Thank you! i will be playing this at Christmas Eve mass coming up.
How wonderful Adria!

You are so welcome, Anamaglena1!
Thank you for the instruction on how to use. I have a question. I got a singing bowl and just a little above the top there is a slight needle size hole. It may be from the mold. Is it normal? Or do I need to get it fixed?
Thank you!! Finally I could do it properly :)
Yay, we are happy to help!
Thank you 😊🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love I love my singing bowl
Thank you.
Lovely! 💞💞💞
Does the bowl sings " OM MANI PADME HUM"
My friend, who does a lot of yoga, has this. She has one of this, and she played it for more than 10 minutes ( yep, she practices ) while mine ended in few seconds. She said we have to concentrate harder to make the sound. Is it true that concentration helps the bowl to make sound??
its like zen mode. you concentrate, just another way of saying to focus your energy.
Hi Angela. Concentration may help, but if you use the techniques in the video, that will probably help most ;-)
Thank you for uploading this helpful video
It’s our pleasure!
Thank you!
So very welcome!
How to strike the bowl?
Thank you
Great video
thank you very much
You're welcome!
Thank You 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
You are so very welcome Jellybean!! Be well.
I have purchased it in Malaysia in Chinese shop yes singing. What is the purpose of it? Only for fun or has any meaning in it
You can see info about it on our website. Yowangdu.com search for singing bowl.
great.. Thank you sooo much xoxoxox
I have seen some wood stock with something wrapped around...to make soft sound? What material is it?
+swedendive ive only seen wool and leather
+swedendive You can use either the wood or the leather or wool to play the bowls. They produce different sounds.
I am trying but its not happening.. its not playing.. the man in shop was playing it just like u and I am trying but i can't produce the sound.. maybe i am not holding mallet the right way but i don't know how to
I’m having same problem. Only works if I bang it
thank u so much 🙏🏻💋😘
You're welcome!
That's great :-)
Thank you soo much!
You are very welcom!
ThAnkh U
great vid
Thank you!
hey what is the price for this bowl?
Sorry, we don’t remember - it was probably a gift.
Thanks Lapsam
You are welcome!!
Nice, but my bowl it's smaller, would you do this with a smaller bowl?
I can't do the sound
Make sure your hand is flat that way you're touching only the bottom and not the edges. If you touch too high on the sides your hand will absorb the vibrations. All the sound is the build up of the vibrations circulating through the bowl.
Good advice!
Either one! :-)
You never know :-)
I was told singing bowl can be used to help make contact with spirits, is this true? What can singing bowl be used for? Thanks!
I can be used for a deep meditation and relaxing
any tips on buying one? I looked on amazon for one that is root chakra c note, it seems to be athentic.
+Infinite1ne We recommend Himalayan Bowls at www.himalayanbowls.com/?ewaid=de2278
I followed this tutorial but all I seem to get is the running of the mallet on the edge. No singing
Hm Rose, try pressing with quite a lot of force.
I still can't get mine to play well
Sorry to hear that Michael. You may need to get someone to show you in person.
Why did someone dislike this ?????
hi, i have 7 tibetan singing bowls, how can i play them all at once on the floor any tips?
Paola Gonzalez Hi Paola. That's great you have these bowls. Sorry, we don't have any special tips for playing them all at once. Let us know if you get some.
+Paola Gonzalez its a lot easier if you strike some other ones and just foucus mainly on one
+Paola Gonzalez Bring friends. When concentrating on a common goal, group meditation tends
to be powerful, because of all the gathered energy.
Hi Paola. Sorry we're not experts on that, but Nerkimusaka's idea sounds good!
I got my tibetan bowls! thanks guys"
:-)
I bet they hit the dislike by mistake
i can play mine without striking it
ok, but actually tho, how tf did humans figure this out.
thank you so much
Thank You
